The dog slowing down, being careful and gentle with the baby melts me. Seeing that it recognises the baby as a small and fragile being is just so wholesome to me
This made me cry it was so sweet & shows that animal understand emotions ❤
It’s inherent in them I think. My family has a 7mo old Husky that acts normal around our 5 & 7 year olds yet just changes demeanor completely around our 1 yr old. Slows down and is just super careful and protective of him
Most animals are really emotionally intelligent when it comes to babies. They recognise that the creature is small and weak so theyre mostly more chill when it comes to babies (obviously this varies case by case for individual animals, dont expect every animal to be chill around young children)
Dogs also pick up on the behavior of their owners around the baby quickly as being gentle, protective, and restrained. Also gradually introducing the baby's scent etc... helps prevent the dog from getting overly excited once introduced. There's probably some maternal instincts kicking in as well with certain smells being detected long before the child arrives.
This is the very first time I see somebody doing this in a responsible way. Good baby parents and good dog parents:-)

I won't animal go if I've baby, but I wont let them sleep in same room, and I would limit the time pet to stay next to baby bc it's not good breath.

@@teruderu-tan Same. Would never leave an animal and a young child (especially a baby) together unsupervised. Imo a kid should be 3 at bare minimum before you do that, and only if you've properly socialised both child and pet so they know how to interact with each other safely

It's always so sweet when dogs recognize and start taking care of their pregnant owner and just being absolutely lovely to them and then they just turn so gentle with the baby

I love the slow, step by step introduction of the different smells of the baby to Lady. It's a sensory overload when you just show up with the new baby and all of the new scents that come with them. A gradual introduction like this is perfect. ❤

Dogs can smell insanely minute differences, like cancerous cells forming in humans, and the truth of our emotions no matter what our faces say... it's truly wild the more you research what they can detect. So since the baby is made up half from one parent's genes and half from the other, the dog knows those familiar smells well already. The baby blanket smells like both the dog's humans. So the scent of the baby is the scent of love and family, from the very first moment. It's truly a beautiful thing.

We were very excited to introduce our dog to our newborn. Unfortunately, he passed about a week before she was born. Take full advantage of all these moments, because none are guaranteed
i got a 18 month old dog 4 or 5 months before my now 5 year old son was born my dog ended up getting sick and had to be euthanized in 2021 when my son was 3 my dog wasnt even 6
That made me really sad, so so sorry 😢❤❤

This is beautiful, instant friends at first sight but with him/her with its’ head on mom’s tummy, he/she knew, he could smell her/him or could actually hear or feel them inside mom. We really don’t give dogs and probably cats enough faith in them. They are way smarter than we give them credit for. I’m just beginning to see and recognize that and I’ve been watching their species all my life.
That's her baby now too...we have a rescue from my brother that's bonded to my nephew and they are besties

While I agree this is a very good dog, this is how most dogs are with babies. They know what babies/puppies are and will be gentle and careful with them. I've even had a dog nurse and raise a litter of tiny kittens.

Bringing home a blanket from the hospital beforehand (that was wrapped around the baby) will help the dog adjust a lot also. Dogs are all about smells

This really brought tears to my eyes! I’m SO glad you included her in every part of your pregnancy and especially after your beautiful baby was born! Dogs are just like toddlers. They most definitely get hurt and can feel left behind, but I’m SO loving that you won’t let this happen to your sweet fur-baby! ❤❤ It really makes me angry when people get dogs and then when something more exciting comes in life or changes occur, the poor dogs get left behind and ignored a lot. Breaks my heart because dogs are angels on earth and so loyal and loving to us no matter what. They deserve the same love and respect as a human in my opinion!!
