As someone who has spaded it, it’s ok. Does well in the right situations and a nice addition to the 8.7 lineup but not a necessity for the Russian tech tree
I'd take the T-55A over it
The Object 685 looks like a PT-76 took steroids and then mated with a BMP-3
And somehow got blind in the process as it has weird optics and no thermals.

The main issue the 685 has is that the only really major upgrade that it has over the 906 is the APFSDS shell but 3bm25 isn’t nearly good enough to warrant a whole +1.0 BR over the 906 considering the T-55A gets it at 8.0.
It should be moved down to 8.3 and it would probably see more use though 8.3 is such a gigantic line-up for the Soviets that it might still get looked over.

I feel this belongs at 8.3, at 8.7 you have too many options instead of the 685.

Same here, I have basically the whole Soviet tech tree unlocked but avoided the "Object line" until now. Got the 906 and this in the recent winter sale finally and started playing them a little bit. The 906 is quite strong, 685 I only got a few games in. I think it's nice to have in the lineup but for the most part I am more a BMP-3 (and BMP-2M when I someday will unlock it) player in this tier.

This thing was very painful to play for Me imo
•Mediocre ammo selection
•Low survivability (courtesy of Paper armor w/ 3 man crew in a small space)
•Ammo is everywhere (notoriously being the vertical ammo in the turret alongside the ammo towards the rear corners of the vehicle making you a very explosive confetti)
•Meh gun handling (Soviet vertical targeting speed)
•Mobility on par or mediocre against other lights
Overall, it lacks firepower (gun & ammo of 8.0-8.3 T-55), survivability (Paper all around armor & poor ammo placement), & versatility (Big & Bloated, Mediocre firepower, Mobility that is behind other lights) making for a poor choice as one’s light tank in their line up (a poor progression from the BMP-3 which is leagues superior to such vehicle)
Thus against it’s contemporaries making for quite a grueling experience, gaijin ples 8.3 :^)
And then there is the BMP2M
Absolutely agree with this, this is overBR IMHO. And I don't know why Gaijin doing this to Russian vehicles, when they place lots of way faster wheelers with thermo sights lower and then they place Sprut-SD without thermal on 9.3
@@scotttill3847 Same here, I have also bmp3, I wasn't using O685 for quite some time, I have apfsds and researching laser rangefinder. After this video I tried it and it's pretty good. I had some good games with 5 kills etc.. I'm really looking forward for have it fully spaded especially mobility.

The russian 100mm is my favorite cannon, it's APFSDS are meh but the APHE and ATGM if available are just so satisfying. The vehicles they are on are tricky to use but once you adopt the -5 depression play style it can work, just have to pray for blind enemies.

I've played War Thunder for over 2k hours and literally just found out this thing existed. I don't play at high BRs so I never see it in game, and there are very few videos of it online. Kind of cool looking

Right after I spaded the Object 685, Gaijin published 2S25. And right after I purchased and spaded 2S25, Gaijin published 2S25M. UHH. Having spaded 3 end-of-line tanks feels like spending so much extra resources. Anyway. Object 685 is an overall decent light tank. A few things that need to be taken care of when using it: 1. while the power-to-ton ratio is high, the gear seems pulling these tanks back. Low number of gear really makes it slightly more slauggish than it should be. 2. The ammo racks are placed at 2 most inconvenient places to be shot at, vertical in middle of the hull and turret, and both corners in the back. So if the enermy have a good center mass shot, you go boom. If the enermy really makes a lousy shot and hit the edge of this tank, usually other tanks takes very little damage (oil tank on fire or radiator damaged), but this tank got hit in back ammo racks and exploded. 3. The poor gun elevation makes it really difficult to use the terrain effectively, or you will take great risks exposing yourself. 4. Since it only has small calibar coaxial machine gun next to 100mm gun, and the elevation is also poor, it got killed very easily by Aircraft and Heli by mid of the game, and no way to defend itself. Generally, I feel the light tanks usually have even higher survivability against conventional large calibar shells at this rank, but not for this tank. It need to be playing very cautiously and avoid getting hit at all cost.

Phly had another idea with helicopter base AA. Have two bases per side. A closer one with no AA and then one further away that has AA.
As far as I know the game has something similar with a close base and a base further away. Should be on any map.
So what are the pro's on this thing?

I have it, but its still almost stock. So I prefer the BMP-3. It's just better.

Ur comment about missles, I see them all the time 🤣🤣 in my t55s I pack like 2-4 of them per tank incase of super heavy targets or a Maus and for the maus I just pop him in the side and ammo rack him

Good news everyone! I finally got the m3a3 Bradley! Took 20 years off of my life but I got it and am so happy! Definitely worth the literal six months it took.
TOW 2Bs are not what they used to be but the dart is good, thermals are great, so commander slave the gun and nail people with TOWS from behind cover
