520 #..a squirrel last year ate a hole straight thru a decorative pumpkin I left out doors.. that followed spring.. I had two pumpkin plants in my yard.. those bright and beautiful flowers gave my front yard lovely ground cover.. I’m hooked five pumpkins too boot
This is my first year doing a real pumpkin patch and so far so good. My wife got a bunch of pumpkins last year for Halloween and after Halloween I just threw them up into the garden just to see what would grow. And boy did I get a bunch to germinate!! I had so many I was able to use my neighbors yard to start the patch.
I live on an acre of land and this gives me a lot of hope for next year. This year i only got one plant to grow because it was all experimenting and so far its only got one pumpkin on it
The Halloween pumpkins are amazing 🎃! Great pix of young Lucas, thanks for sharing. It would be awesome if everyone ran joyously through their gardens !!!!
You give me hope! I’m starting my very first attempt on a little backyard pumpkin patch, and I’m always so nervous for them. I’m planting one row each of Howden, Sugar, and Casper. I check on them everyday for pests and make sure they have enough water and sunlight. I hope to have a successful little pumpkin patch like you did in this video. Thanks to you and seeing your trial and errors, I have more of an idea on what to look out for! Love your videos!
@@lucasgrowsbestyt I’m growing in my backyard in NE. My first attempt, I only got 2 and the first freeze killed them before they could even turn orange. But this time I think I got them germinated and planted as early as I could. Very excited. :)
Great video & great enthusiasm. I can’t wait to get my pumpkin 🎃 patch started. I may plant them a little later this season as opposed to the last couple of years. Nice job Man
It's definitely possible, especially for the smaller varieties. In general I think pumpkins do better in the ground. Add lots of compost and nutrients to your pot and have a drip system set up. Pumpkins are very heavy feeders and drinkers! I wouldn't recommend cutting back the vines, that increases chance of disease and means less photosynthesis for your pumpkins.
i wish i could grow pumpkins every time i try they die, i live in fl i think its just too hot and humid here.. your patch looks great you did a good job growing them
Thanks Krystal! That's too bad, yeah I can see the humidity and heat making it more difficult. I recommend choosing heat-tolerant and powder mildew resistant varieties. See which varieties work, keep growing those, and discontinue the rest.
Its always so fun to see your content It was a great pumpkin year for us too. Such a relief after some disappointment with summer type squashes. Pie pumpkins grew literally like weeds for us this year. Sadly our favorites, the Jack B Little did not do as well. We only got 3 of those this year unfortunately
i'm glad there's other people as excited as me to grow pumpkins! i'll be attempting to grow my first garden this year and pumpkins are definitely a must
I’ve tried the last two years to grow pumpkins get a lot of male flowers and leaves but never any actual pumpkins :/ gonna switch things up and try again this year 🤞
What do you do with a ton of pumpkins? I love winter squash but pumpkins are decorative and not good eating. I'd love to grow a ton of the gourmet eating squash but dont have much space. Can you sell them for haloween decor ? idk how easy that would be. Nice haul anyways.
I sold most of them at a local auction. Didn't sell for a ton, but I'm glad they'll find a home. I grow pumpkins for Halloween, not eating, although I did grow some pie pumpkins.
Hello‚ I'm looking for a pumpkin for Halloween but make sure it's a good size. Do you think that the sugar pie pumpkin meets that characteristic? what variety is the one you used beforehand thank you very much for your answer

Great job. I am inspired by your success and would be more than happy if my pumpkins turned out the size of yours.
Looks awesome they look perfect! 🎃
Nice Job Lucas. I have 16 acres this year of Pumpkins. I have a few videos under my name too. We did 10 acres last year.
I just harvest mine and the biggest was 8kg👍love watching this
How about container planting for pumpkins? Got any tips for us? What would happen if the vines were controlled by cutting them back some? Thank you!

Thank you!!! That's great, too bad about the Jacks though. There's always next season. 👌
your three pumpkins from your front yard. The tall slender pumpkin what kind is it?
The variety was 'Jack O'Lantern' from the McKenzie Seeds brand!

Woohoo!!! Love pumpkins. There really aren't enough good pumpkin growing videos on YT! Good luck.

I'm growing Crookneck squash. Look up vertical growing with stake.
Spring in Australia. So seedlings ATM.
