When I was a young man I was in the Marines. Including Boot Camp I was stationed at Paris Island over 6 months. I loved going to Hunting Island. I would swim straight out to sea for 45 minutes or so. Then tread water for 20 minutes or so. I would swim back slower because the tide would have moved me a great distance. With my lungs opened up so well, when I got back to base I'd run 6 or 8 miles. I'm 66 years old now. I had my time in the sun. I have been blessed.
I’m winded just reading that… thank you for your service. You may have been there sane time as my family my dad was crash and fire rescue on the air station. We went to church on P.I. ❤❤❤
Every single time I looked up to the top from the bottom of the light house… SOMETHING WOULD GET IN MY EYE…. I grew up in Beaufort… so we were here SOOO MANY TIMES!!! But it never failed…. My sister said the lighthouse ghost 👻 was kicking dirt in my eye….😂😂😂 and I should just be glad he never threw me over the top…

It’s insane to me now how I assumed my exhaustion that is clearly visible in this video was from being over worked and over traveled when in actuality I was dying for leukemia. There is still one cabin next to the lighthouse that you can rent, I have stayed there several times. You do have to make reservations 13 months in advance to guarantee a spot.
Nick McDonald well The Big Chill was filmed in Beaufort but I’m not sure it was filmed on Hunting Island. I can’t remember a scene from a film there. Granted, chemo brain, so I could be wrong.

Used to be cabins you could rent on the south side of the island.
I wish they were all still there. Unfortunately the sea claimed them.

True on G.I. Jane :D The "prison camp" raid portion was filmed at the inland end of the lagoon. Several other scenes were also filmed on the island
