Thanks for doing these interviews Robin !
So much of this rich racing history would be lost forever otherwise.

Chris Economaki quoted A.J. after his Le Mans 1967 win. A French reporter asked A.J. What do you think of our race track? “It’s just a little ol’ country road”.

I remember going to Pole Qualifying and Carburetor Thursdays at Indy back in the 80's. You cold see him in the pits exploding at the pit crew and driver, just like a drill sergeant! He was The Man.

Interesting that A J mentions eye sight. Great race drivers have great eye sight, a lot of people don't realize that.

At Lemans...yes. It's a race track of straightaways with few corners. In A.J.'s time that would've been five specific corners...the 'esses', Tertra Rouge, Mulsanne corner, Indianapolis, and the Porsche Curves(now called Corvette Corners for some lame reason that I'm sure involved GM's deep pockets). No chicanes on Mulsanne. No Ford Chicane. Dunlop would've been open to the 'esses'. Not really a hard track to learn.

There's always at least one "Eye-talian", "Fur-rare-ree" fan that can't handle losing and votes a great video down! I guess Enzo couldn't have the remainder of the '67 Le Mans race cancelled to avoid losing like he is known to have the '64 F.I.A. W.M.C. Monza race cancelled to avoid losing the W.M.C. to The Shelby Daytona Coupes. Foyt is known to have taken great pride in beating "Fur-rare-ree" in '67. Foyt HATED "Fur-rare-ree" as drivers were seen to him as nothing more than "meat in the seat" up to that point. Foyt was known to go on a rant if Enzo was mentioned naming off EVERY drivers name that had been killed in a "Fur-rare-ree" up to that point. Ford LOVED every second of the '67 win too as they were on the verge of buying "Fur-rare-ree" the year before but Enzo pulled the plug at the last second. Ford figured out quickly Enzo was just F$@#&%G around the entire time and was never serious about it. This was a MAJOR motivation towards the giant 1967 factory Le Mans assault.

Uh ya except Ford tried the buyout of Ferrari in '63. Not '66.
Surprised you didn't know that considering you knew about Enzo's shenangins at Monza in '64.

I remember seeing him at Mid Ohio in the mid 80s driving IndyCars....think he was in a bad accident a few races before. He was limping around and bruised up. But, he'd get in that car and go!

    GT40 # 6-1969
In the early 1960s, Henry Ford II, grandson of Henry Ford, who has just been appointed CEO of the Ford Motor Company, wants the brand to compete in the prestigious 24 Hours from the Mans.
In the spring of 1963, Ford learned through a European intermediary that Enzo Ferrari, who is facing financial difficulties, might be interested in selling his business. But Enzo Ferrari withdraws from the negotiations at the last moment and abruptly cancels the proposed sale.
Vexed, Henry Ford II decided to create a car that could compete with Ferrari. The first GT40 (40 for 40 inches tall or 1.02 m) was completed on April 1, 1964
Ford wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 66,67,68 and in 1969 Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver won the GT40 MK1 N ° 6 (the same car that had already won in 1968 but with the # 9!)
My name is Maurice Chazal I am a contemporary painter, I live in the south of France!
Today I present you a 50x50cm canvas made with knives and brushes.

@@ricksmith7357 in 1966 Walt Hansgen was killed at 'White House' trying to prove he was as fast as those road racers at the LeMans practice in April before the race. Ford and Shelby weren't about to let another person die due to poor areodynamics after Ken Miles was killed at Riverside in the 'J' car or Mk. III and thus we got the legendary Mk. IV.
