Omg you sound just like me. Being in here almost 4 years I’m still wondering how to configure bed/couch stuff. Lol. I heard it’s never ending. Great videos
I love this! It’s well thought out! So cool! I’m with you put it at the back L shaped! Also you can spray paint the tiles. Lambs wool rug may be a great topper and very sheek
Thank you! I don’t mind them but next to the fabric, they just don’t seem to go. I found some white ones I’ll probably get to replace them. I used the rest of my box of 10 to tile under the bathroom sink in my house. 😁
I'm the weirdo whose actual bedroom is the temp of outside most nights (north fl and I get bad hot flashes etc) and I've found if I put a pillow top over the hard memory foam it's super supportive and comfy! Highly recommend bamboo sheets too, very affordable compared to silk and very similar temperature regulation.
Welp, you probably saved me from a horrible mistake. I broke my back as a kid and have a lifetime of spinal issues that'll never go away. I've already got 14 inch titanium rods cradling my spine and we've scheduled yet another surgery soon. I've been designing my FTC around my little kitchen hutch, but you've convinced me to back off and focus on the bed. If the bed doesn't address my position problems, the whole thing will be useless for me. I think I'm going to back off for another year, see how this surgery affects my physiology, then go back to the drawing board after. I might even get my physical therapist's insight involved. And the bed will be the star of the show. I like the multiple configurations that are possible with this design. It reminds me of an old joke. "What's the best position for someone with back problems?" "The next one." If you get it, you get it. ;-)
I can sure relate to that. I wish you the best in your endeavors, your journey and successful surgeries with speedy recovery! I think we can only do what we can do, but we should at least do that, if that makes any sense!
Great idea way to go👍 I have the same issue & planning on camping in my Xterra without a bed frame. I thought about rigging up a hanging board off the seat, the acid reflux triangle pillow or just shoving blankets or clothes🤣. Looks like your off to a GREAT START👏👍 Keep posting please!
Great job on your bed - very unique! sI love that you solved a problem using items that you already have. Your extension gives it so much more versatility in a small space. Your cushion fabric is lovely.
--- Good idea! I, too, have to be inclined to sleep (GIRD, etc) so I have put my winter parka (in a storage bag) under the top third of mattress pad. With snowboard pants, parka, other winter accessories, it lifts the top part 7-12 inches. Works perfect!
If you don't want to attach the cushion permanently, just sew a ribbon to each side of the cushion and tie it underneath the table, that way it doesn't move around but detaches easily with no issues. 🙂 Or attach velcro the bottom side of the table and attach velcro to the ribbon.
You could paint the tiles with indoor latex, acrylic or chalk paint. Or even the paint you used for the bench. Or you could glue/mod podge the same fabric for your cushions onto the tiles. Or staple the fabric lol. Just don't use toxic glue. I have a van but not living in it. I have done a no build as I do visit my sister. Unfortunately, I have a large dog kennel inside as my 2 males do not get along, so it takes up a lot of space. I did buy a hammock but is uncomfortable for sleeping so ended up buying a cot but is so long it's difficult opening the kennel door. I like what you have done. Safe travels and Happy Holidays!
I like the way you did your bed I have kind of a problem too and I've got to have my head raised up just a little bit not as high as you got it but that gives me a good idea how to do that this is Granny Grant saying goodbye and have a blessed day
4"Memory foam came with my shorty bus and was hard as a rock so I bought a 3" regular foam topper and spray glued them together in winter I flip to regular side, summer I have memory foam side up 😁👍
Great job. New subscriber here. I have a Nissan nv2500 high roof I’m just beginning to build out. It’s so exciting but I keep changing my mind when I see new videos lol 😆 ❤
@@VanityBitty oh yes ma’am I totally agree I have been watching for 4 years now 🤣🤣I’m obsessed…..then got a friend also obsessed about 3 years ago. We want to go west and see everything lol
Find to hook points and hang a hammock... ( Provides more room, no clostrophobia, easy to stowaway, but most importantly you can sleep sitting up or at an angle of your choice). I do it everyday in a Dodge Grand caravan. Just a thought 🙂
Purchase a hammock hook to attach to the trunk opening and use the passenger door entry handle . I have also used the driver's headrest instead of the entry handle.
@@terrib.1801 I'm 51 and have major back issues - hammocks are better than beds to sleep in because you don't have pressure points. It has been a godsend
I have a hiatal hernia, so i also sleep on an incline. i have taken a section of a foam mattress and made a wedge. works great. for awhile i had something like what youve done but i tended to slide down to much!
When I sleep in my incline bed in my home, I sometimes slide too. I never slide in my recliner tho. Remains to be seen if I slide on this bed for the van.
Thank you! I’m trying to use what I have right now and not put out too much money for a build until I know I can do this! It’s very satisfying figure out ways to use what I already have!
Hi thank you so much this is just what I'm looking for. what size hinges did you use ( the one in the back and the one in the head part and what are the measurements for your boards. I'm building out the same van and want to do this. Thank you for your response in advance
Thank you! The hinges were 1-1/2” piano hinges. The long one was 30” and the short one was 12”. The long board was 22”x36” and the short board was 22”x12”. The sizes of all of these were dictated by the size of the bench I used as a base, which I did not build.
So how is it sleeping in? I have the same issue and I've been trying different sleep systems when tent camping. But I'm looking to do something inside the van. THe passenger seat is doable for a night but not real comfortable
IDK yet. I’m still in the building stage, trying to get it to the point where I can do a test run. But thats definitely the main thing I need to find out. But since i have no ventilation yet, i have to wait awhile longer until i can get the max air fan installed.
It looks like the rachet hinge is adjustable, is it? I have horrible sleep apnea and can relate to the sleep position issue! What you are thinking of is a wedge (for under your knees). I've been thinking of making one to custom size the incline that would be best for my bed. I have a vintage sofa-like cushioned rocking chair. Some nights I prop my feet up and sleep there! You used what you have so well and made it multipurpose, too! Nice job!
Ah, good question. I’ll go link it in the description but I got them from Amazon at www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZY6I9FI?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Very clever. Why not slide a large plastic 6" clothing storage box under there? They come on wheels and you can just slide it out. You can divide the inside into sections as you wish.
Thank you! I thought of using a shorter storage box but since it will be clothes storage, I’ll really need to use the full space under the bench. It’s really all the storage I’m going to have other than whatever I do for kitchen cabinet. It’s ok though because the top lifts up for full access to anything under there.
I bought a chair/cot conversion chair. I can link the lady I got the idea from. HOWEVER, I guess it originally came with a nice thick mattress like she has and a bag. Well to accommodate peoples complaining, the company got rid of the bag because people said that it wouldn’t fit in the bag with the mattress that it originally came with and they also complained that the chair wouldn’t fold up with that mattress in it. So to accommodate the people, they made the mattress super thin it’s not even a mattress anymore. It’s a thick comforter you can feel everything through it and it does not come with a bag. I will link below the ladies TH-cam video. I got the idea from so that you know which chair cat unit I’m talking about. Please keep in mind they don’t make it like this anymore like what she has. I did return mine and got my money back, which was a huge, horrible costly mess.
I wish I could sleep setting up it would make it where I could have a bad across the back that would be awesome. Take up less room give me more room to put all the stuff.

The number of bed configurations you have is the best I’ve seen. Love the fabric choice.

You can get individual tiles at Habitat Re-Stores. They take extra bits and salvaged things from house improvement or demolition.
Happy for you!

If you will be sleeping anywhere that it’s cold, memory foam gets hard. I recommend latex foam because it stays softer.
I learned that the hard way in Canada 🍁 lol
I didn't know this and thank you because i need foam as hard as i can get it without actually being on the wood, for my back.

Put adhesive shelf paper or wall paper over the tiles maybe?
That’s a great idea! I can actually pop those tiles right off and just do it straight on the plywood.
