The fact that thom fucks up the lyrics of this song everytime he sings it proves how deeply thom is connected to this song, how much feel he puts to it... gets absolutely oblivious singing it.. he is a legend !
Usually, when I listen to songs like that, a urning love song with Radiohead or some other band, It stirs my emotions because I identify with the lyrics, in relations to my own life. But now when I listen to this performance, it stirs my emotions, because I empathize with Thom, how he felt when he wrote that song.
+Jean Luc Bergman I feel like i'm definitley in the minority, but it doesn't really work for me. Thom's voice sounds strained to hit the high notes and i found Daydreaming to be far more impactful to me. I dunno, i'm sure it'll grow on me though.
Well, I'm living proof that true love waits. Widowed at 35 due to cancer in a very troubled marriage, with both of us at fault. Four years later met someone else, and here it is five years later, and it's only getting stronger. She really is my True Love, and all those years of wandering, the guilt, and pain only serve to make it that much better now that I've found her.

its such a great song because its like that'll be the day when I find true love, like true love doesn't even exist, we just want someone to stay so that we aren't forever lonely
when I got to see this live I was planning on recording but this song is to beautiful so I just held my girlfriends hand and had one of the best moments to date. thank you Thom.
this is the most precious momment in music's history, everything is perfect, his voice, his guitar, the audience, the scenario, him... lyrics I love you Thom, this song is my life, nothing in earth compares to this song
This song captures that slipping feeling, desperation when you can tell the love for you is fading or already gone your left with 2 roads fight to preserve the little pieces that still hold meaning and connect you or recognize the inevitable, that these pieces will also break down and you will further be resented for using them......and holding on longer will only hurt more, if you truly love that person, do not keep them if they don't want to be with you.... Let go and walk away for yourself
I love how the two versions of this song (the one they played live and the one on AMSP) have such different meanings. This version is almost that rare happy Radiohead song, a swearing declaration of love, while the new one is a defeated, empty shell of what could have been and is one of the saddest songs ever in light of what’s happened with Thom. It’s almost “God Only Knows”-like in its duality, with one half being a declaration of forever loving someone and the other half being a statement of desperate defeat, with no hope of redemption. Truly a masterpiece. This is, in my opinion, the best song Radiohead has ever done, because we get to briefly see the beating heart of the band, and it’s so tender and beautiful it feels that any more would be excess but it manages to have the perfect amount of everything
This song is heart breaking. "Just don't leave". In the mid-90s, it's about a young man finding love and clinging to his own desire to trust it. By 2018, it's the song of a heart-broken man who left the love of his life in her lowest hour, and couldn't summon the strength to be with her while she was dying. It was he who abandoned her in the end. The young lover, who as a child was left routinely in an attic, only understanding love to be the lollipops and crisps that a negligent parent uses to balm the relationship with their child. He discovers real love - and impetuously is willing to abandon himself, and drown his beliefs, in order to feel like he deserves it. The song is as self-conscious as the young man - it's desperate. "Don't leave" is a cry to the parents abandoning him to his loneliness, but also becomes the cry to the new lover he can't trust to stay around. True Love Waits, not only for the parents to return, but for a young man to develop a more mature understanding of what love should be. And she did wait for him. She waited for him to mature. She waited for him during countless world-wide tours. The mother of his children, and a formidable artist in her own right. In 2016, Rachel Owen dies. They agreed he couldn't be the supportive partner she needed and parted amicably just one year before she passed. Now, the refrain "Don't Leave" takes on a double meaning. A cry for the loved one lost forever. But, also a cry from the grave to him "Just don't leave" - and yet he did. Lament. Now he waits, but for what?
Out of all the songs that I could've found, it was this one. Some centuries ago on some bootleg music site, this song popped up. No idea who Radiohead was and after listening, I became an instant fan!
this song sounds like a small beam of hope in full storm of sadness, hopeless and helpless, when all you can do is watching and hoping, but somewhere deep in heart you know that it's helpless
True Love Waits is the song that brought me to Radiohead. First piece of the band that I ever listened to. Gave me a totally different feeling compared to the popular Creep, Fake Plastic Trees or High and Dry( those are also masterpieces tho). This is that one song about yearning for love and the lover that caught me crying in the middle of the night. We all crave for the unconditional, protective love that we once had when we were a child. And indeed, the way the man in the song is taking care of the girl he loves, is by treating her as a child. The crazy kitten smile, the tiny hands, the lollipops, the dress-like- your-niece, all speak about that kind of love. And there he is, trying to give all the love he could just to beg her not to leave. But yeah that's just how I depict it.
Thom, when asked how he came up with the line lollipops and crisps, " i read an article about a child who was between 5-8 yrs old who was left on his/her own for a week in a house when his parents left on hoilday and he lived on lollipops on crisps. true." (01/04/00) Thom also commented on the meaning of the line "I'll dress like your niece," saying "the difference between young and old when people start to dress sensible and act their age
Amazing thom yorke, you will know her 12 years from now. She is a big surprise in Israel. You are loved by God for your love to the Jewish people. God bless you!!💋

@PimpBrovasTV no pro, I only mentioned it because 'Best of' albums can sometimes slip under the radar if you've collected a bands stuff since they started. Tracks like this can be enhanced by the imperfections of a live show and audience participation. Having said that when Thom is on his game the quality of a live performance can seem like it's produced in a recording studio.
I think it's just about the lengths the narrator would go to to have his true love with him at that very second - up to and including the impossible. "I'm not living - I'm just killing time."
I'll drown my beliefs To have you be in peace I'll dress like your niece To wash your swollen feet Just don't leave Don't leave I'm not living I'm just killing time Your tiny hands Your crazy kitten smile And true love waits In haunted attics And true love lives On lollipops and crisps
