      I remember some of these in the early 1960’s, Swindly played by Arthur Lowe, Jack and Annie Walker, all the others were household names, many no longer with us.

    Amazing episode! I loved that tender moment between Annie and Jack Walker.
    The Mission was built on the side of the Rover's, wasn't it? None of them would have been any safer there.

    • @CornishMiner
      @CornishMiner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The Glad Tidings Mission was in Viaduct Street, the other end of the street to the Rovers, with an entry to the vestry in Coronation Street and numbered 15. In the early episodes' end credit sequence, the Mission's entrance was incorrectly shown to be next door to the Rovers Return. This apparently had something to do with Archie Street in Salford that was the inspiration for the Coronation Street's appearance, which had a church next to the pub.

    Linda is so annoying. “What about me?” Blah!
    They’ve been burgled. Oh Elsie, you can’t say it wasn’t your fault because you didn’t put the note up when you wrote it and it was your idea!
    Ena is a terrible person. Not helping Mrs Nugent (that’s Emily from later shows - wow!). Not wanting people to evacuate to the hall. She’s a nasty piece of work.
    Why does Elsie value her wedding photo?
    Ena! She makes all these comments and she doesn’t go to the church herself. Maybe she should!
    Ha, the Tanners brought their TV. Well, they’d been without it for long enough, I guess. Tranquillity gone.
    Great words from Jack about community and coming together whilst reminiscing about the war shelters. A lovely moral to this episode. The love letters Annie and Jack kept are so cute.

      Helen Gazzara did he find a drawing pin in there to stick the note on the front door ?

    • @secretmermaidgirl2878
      @secretmermaidgirl2878 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He found a drawing pin, but also a bunch of folded notes ... which he TOOK?? - - He lifts down the vase 9:34, then he gives a low whistle of surprise 9:38, as he lifts out the money stashed there - - and then - the notes are scrunched in his left hand, with the base of the vase, he tips the vase up a couple of times, finds a drawing pin with his right hand - then he puts the vase back on the mantlepiece, but doesn't seem to return the notes to it - they are in his hand, with his coat - and the pin is in the other hand - all fingered, filched and finished in three seconds! - - - and out he goes to the front door to help pin the note on the door ...So - - what's the betting that the poor old unwitting TV man comes along, gets the key from the corner shop as instructed, puts the telly in, sets it up, and hoofs off - and later gets accused of half-inching the dosh? No one to see him, no one to back him up - with an accusation of thieving from the houses he's been allowed to be let into, he'll be in a very dicey situation ... Hahaha I didn't guess right - but - Ivan's still got the money - a whole SIX QUID - - which would be almost £100 in today's value ...

    • @gilgameshofuruk4060
      @gilgameshofuruk4060 ปีที่แล้ว

      @secretmermaidgirl2878 I don't think he took the notes. It looks like a clumsy way to show that Elsie kept her savings in the vase rather than have her tell us so later. It was probably intended to make the viewers think "Don't put that note on the door, not with all that money in the vase".
      Unfortunately it left Ivan juggling the props and trying to complete the scene on time. It was late on in the recording and if he'd messed it up it would have meant starting recording if the whole episode again from the opening scene.

    question for you I believe Granada plus showed the first 20 episodes of Coronation Street. you have uploaded the first 16 episodes do you have episode 18 19 and 20.
    I also believe that Granada plus show the other episodes from the 60s you probably don't have those but if you do can you upload every episode from the 60s that were released by network then all episodes from the 60s that was shown on Granada Plus and then all episodes that were not shown on Granada plus not from the network release but were released on the Coronation Street video collection the episodes from the 60s then you know what I mean.
    as you have 95 episodes and I believe there and I believe there are some more not many more that are out there that are available from the 60s.

      but Granada plus show Coronation Street and they showed the first 20 episodes so there are 4 episodes episode 17 18 19 and 20 from 1961 that Granada plus shows that you don't have someone out there must have them.
      thank you and just to let you know I am loving a bit old black and white episodes just my favourite era of Coronation Street.
      I do hope ITV or network release some more black and white episodes of Coronation Street not sure how we're going to do it it could release the complete years but that would probably cost a little bit of money I'm going to go now because I'm just rambling thank you.
