Nice! You've got yourself some good projects there. I'll be curious as to how much cheaper those were vs the good/ complete one I bought (which I am thoroughly happy with!) Looking forward to the next video reveal 👍🏻
Thanks! Yeah, I do love good projects. You can check out @RUSTYSURPLUS. I know he bought an A grade FR-7 and did a video on it. I want to say he paid close to $400 for his.
Been following for quite a while now but don't usually comment.... that being said I am having so much fun watching your openings and the info you give with your videos. I wish you all the best with your endeavors!! I'm getting ready to start shopping a few of those myself!! Thank You!!
Looks like a good deal to me. Tinkering with old surplus is at least half the fun! One of the best parts about those rifles is that when you get them cleaned up you can easily get 7.62 Nato ammo for them. Not to sound like a "Bubba", but they would make a great hunting rifle as is.
I totally agree. I love fixing up old firearms. Yep, 7.62 is easily found and much more common than 8mm. They would definitely make a good hunting carbine.
Thank you sir, you're exactly right, it's a very cool, unique "transitional" rifle. BTW, if you're planning on getting one, grab a stock from RTG Parts first, they had 26 in stock when I bought my 2, unboxing coming up next week or so when I get them. They were $199 for nos stocks sets.
I have had one of these 10 years ago still have a turn down bolt handle .I got it for prospecting in the mountains for mountain lion and bear later I change to a Winchester pump 12
Been eyeing upna few things to prepare for another order from HL hoping one of the revolvers, or the 1908 Brazillian. I may try to get ahold of james on any information of stock regards to the isreali k98s and or any of the 1893s they had laying around for awhile
Cool, thanks, @RUSTYSURPLUS was telling me the other day about using a short piece of roof gutter filled with wather to boil a DP rifle action in to remove the cosmoline.
I dont know if its the same thing. Back in the early 90s there were some Spanish 7.62 for sale like ew. They were like for a cross over between the military and police or something. $300 and i thought id chew it over next week all gone never to be seen again. Because of that i an unsure it was look at a few mins in the shop. I remember they were a bit short so i thought it would have big recoil so thats why i thought about it
@@The_Casual_Collector smart to do, I always Check them on older milsurp rifles. Had a bolt fail on me once even after I checked it’s headspacing! Got me a face full of hot gas and little bits of cartridge casing. Chamber was a little too close to NO-GO and the cartridge cases were just a wee bit short according to the smith that examined the evidence. Full head separation, he had to extract the case from the chamber.
I hope you can get stocks for them. I got some real nice M1 carbine ,leather handled bayonets and real nice M-3 trench knives with leather handles from Hunters Lodge.
Very cool! Yeah they do have so much more stuff besides guns, but you do of course have to inquire to know what they have. Yep, I already got 2 stocks on order from RTG Parts for $199 each, I'll do a video on them when they arrive.
I've been putting off ordering a stock, just having a hard time buying a $200 stock for a $100 rifle (that I'm still waiting on). James told me that some are just missing handguards so maybe I'll get lucky. Still, wouldn't be disappointed at all with what you have.
Agree...that's a couple of good scores with those FR-8's when you can swap in some good (new old stock) Stock sets from a separate supplier. Not sure if it's you plan...but looks the perfect deal to fix them up & keep the best one & sell the other (at some point in future) for a handy profit to cover costs (or close to) that the 2 of them cost you (inc new stocks). I use to own a really nice FR-8 many years ago (25+ years back). Really wish I'd held onto her given how relatively rare they are in Australia.
Wow, very cool! You had one in Australia? Yeah, I'd say that's rare. I know what you're referring to with the NOS stocks, I found some at RTG Parts and purchased 2 for $199 each. I think less than $300 for a complete FR-8 is pretty darn good. Thanks for watching and sharing!
I bought my FR8 in the early 90s when they were advertised in the Shotgun News. Do you know if yours have been setting in a forgotten warehouse ,or are they recent imports? I wouldn’t mind getting another one.
@MegaBait1616 yep, it seems as though youtube has been playing games, they did it to 3 of my videos, one of them, twice already and I've had to manually turn them back on...may have to switch to Rumble it it keeps getting worse...
@The_Casual_Collector quick update. I ordered one and received it about 6 weeks later. Stock was broken in half but easily mended it back together and the bore looked great. Only issue I face now is the rear sight is broken and freely rotates. But it was an excellent buy.
I pick one up for $189 total I remember picking it up at a gunshow in Philly looking at it n 3 other guys were waiting for me to put it down I said this is a kool gun n I bought it, saw one next day at a gun shop for $800 I got a deal when I found it.
88 is a good deal, IMO. The one I have wasn’t a project but I must’ve paid something between 400 and 500 (don’t recall exactly). Since it’s only 200 for a NOS stock, the potential to be way ahead is definitely there.
Yes sir, I thought so too, I purchased two stocks, I'll do an unboxing when I get them in to show the condition. 400-500 is a pretty good price for a nice complete one.
Great video brother...Again thanks for the shout-out ...Update on my order ..It came in today and I will be doing a unboxing video soon.... My safe is bulging at the seams But I am going to pick up some Carcanos from Jame's at HL.. Like you,I only deal with James.. He told me he had different model Carcanos so I'm going to take a chance....Well till your next video .Great job and have a blessed day brother ..
Thank you sir, you're welcome, us smaller channels have to help each other out to grow for sure. That's great to hear on your order, I'm looking forward to the video. You have a blessed day as well!
The bolts are worth 88$ I also totally agree HL has better bores, but when there is an issue you can call RTI and someone answers, they ship a lot faster. If HL ever fixed those issues they could make so much more money.
To each their own I guess, the bores are good and I got them knowing full well they would be projects, which I enjoy. One a side note the bores are good which is much more than I can say about an FN 49 I had gotten from RTI which was advertised as a good bore...I couldn't even see down it when I unboxed it...it promptly got sent back.
Been waiting for the 2nd installment! How much shipping should I pay for two rifles? I love projects. Have done many..... I've got to get me an FR7 and FR8. Sell me one of the 8s Or order me a 7 and an 8, I'll pay you extra.....you seem to have luck ordering from them. Theyre 88 dollars in the ad.....
I honestly have no idea what you should pay on shipping, they usually just do it by the weight and zip code, to the best of my knowledge. I would recommend you do like I and @robertsonwilliam573 do and keep calling until you can get James and speak to him. I wish I could order one for you, but I can't. That would violate the regulations of my C&R FFL, as I'm "not to be engaged in the business of buying and selling firearms" with it. All I can say is keep trying to get James on the phone.
@@The_Casual_Collector I've called over two dozen times in a day or gotten him on the first ring. You never know. i love messing with all firearms in general but love restoring classic military war rifles!
very fun winter pass time projects.
I totally agree!
Real nice projects there and a new stocks are a must THANKS foe showing. My FR-7 from Hunters was real nice.. but it was a grade A and full price.
Yes sir, and your FR-7 is quite nice. I did already order 2 of the replacement stocks for sure since RTG only had 26 in stock when I ordered them.

FWIW, I use a wall paper trough and mineral spirits and submerge the barreled action in the trough 👍🏻

Can't wait to see those NOS stops on the cleaned up rifles. Was it just the camera or was that bottom rifle bent rendering it unshootable?
Thanks, me too! It's the camera....I really need a better setup.🤦♂️
Good video. Thanks for posting.
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Were those even headspace’s by the importer?
Like not, but I do intend on checking them to be safe.
