When I was a kid in the 70s I was forced to watch every episode of Hee Haw...my mother had control of the TV. Roy Clark was a great person and a hell of a guitar player!

In the 70s I forced my kids to watch Hee Haw....I had control of the TV. They were little so they kinda like the noise and the fast movements of the show.
Same. I had younger siblings and it was a family show. The double entendres were PG and went over the heads of most of us kiddies.
Came on after Lawrence Welk, we too had one tv, getting color tv was a big deal too back then

My parents never missed an episode of Hee-Haw. In the 70s, we had just one TV and if that show was on we knew not to ask to change the channel.

When I was a young kid I was in love with Roy Clark! So much so that when I was in the hospital as a young kid, I received a stuffed rooster toy and I named it after him - I still have it today!

The man was tremendously talented. My parents used to make me watch Hee-Haw if I wanted to watch TV at all as they had control of the television. And while I don't like country music and never really have, I appreciated his musical talent and the fact that he and Buck Owens were pickin and a grinin. The jokes were really corny and I used to want to look like Barbie Benton. Lol

My Grandad used to love watching Hee Haw! He thought it was so funny. As a kid, I thought it was a stupid show. Roy Clark was an amazing guitar & banjo player though! Very talented💙

Even to this day I'm a huge fan of Hee Haw and it was one of my favorite shows when I was really young in the late 70s - early 80s. Lots of corny humor, great singing, and hot women. The dialogue and jokes had a feel of being "under rehearsed" and choppy, but it sailed very well with a large audience. Some were well known, such as Minnie Pearl (Grand Ole Opry legend), George Lindsay (Goober from Andy Griffith), and Gunilla Hutton (Petticoat Junction), and some were married to famous people, such as Marianne Gordon Rogers (married to Kenny Rogers) and Linda Thompson (once married to Bruce, now Caitlyn, Jenner). Some also posed for Playboy, such as Barbi Benton and Anne Randall. Roy Clark was certainly a very talented banjo picker and great singer as well. RIP my friend.

I remember this when I was a little haw, I’m not sure if it was reruns but it was in the 80s . I just remember the donkey saying heeehawww 😂. 80s humor was so different in the 80s and 90s

This reminds me of the late 60s-early 70s. I was away at college and sometimes was at my boyfriend's house, I think this was in Saturday night. Such a silly show, but older people found it funny, I do remember Roy Clark was a good musician. May he rest in peace.

I had a chance to play guitar with Roy Clark and friends, after hours, in a old store (Gee's) in Meherrin Va. I thought the invite was a joke since I was new in the area and didn't go. The store owner heard me play before and had talked me up to Roy. Roy Clark had even hunted quail on my property before my family bought it, so he knew where I lived. Roy returned to his home in Meherrin on holidays. I never was invited to their get togethers afterwards. People around here are "funny" that way.
I am a rock guy but Roy Clark was a true shredder he really really was a fine musician. Definitely a shredder! I've read some interviews buy some rock guys that they loved his pla playing. Just a great all-around musician!
Thanks to Roy I fell in LOVE with Banjo music. It was so fun to watch HeeHaw when I was a kid. One of the Greatest Musicians EVER ! Thanks for doing this Exact story Lamont. This talented man deserves all the recognition and accolades possible ! Take Care. Yup Jimmy Dean didn't start his sausage business until he was almost retirement age I think it was. But yes very Famous way before the sausage!

I was in the 6th grade in the mid 60's and every week both my parents actually sat down and watched and laughed and enjoyed the music.
Roy Clark spread the love and his grave is so prominent and shows the love in return by the lake with Roy’s relief. Thanks for this upload tribute.

Roy Clark could shred that guitar too. You wonder one of the reasons why Eddie Van Halen was so good. One of the bests things was, he could be comical also while playing just as well.
Hee Haw was a formula that appealed to a country sense of humor and fans of country music. It was on during an era that just meshed perfectly with the demographics and rural background of a massive chunk of the US population at that time. It was almost a phenomenon. Anybody that was somebody in country music made a guest appearance on Hee Haw. Some appeared multiple times. My wife's 3rd or 4th cousin was Roy's bus driver for a time. Back when Roy was playing small venues, my in-laws got to meet him in their little Colorado town. You mentioned Wanda Jackson, She did a show in that same little Colorado town in the late 1990s. That was a fun memory. She was still reaching out to her audience as a semi retired entertainer after all those years. Many of these famous stars were as down to earth as your neighbor next door. They remembered their roots and fan base forever.
I love your humor, Lamont. I grew up watching Hee Haw. It really became a hit when Elizabeth Taylor's daughter came on and stayed.
He also had a guest spot on "The Odd Couple" He played Malaguena beautifully.

Back in my radio days I got to meet Roy when he had a show in the town I worked. I waited on his tour bus, we played around on some video games and he gave a wonderful interview (for a realitive radio Newby 😊) super nice guy and a great memory.

I grew up watching Hee Haw when I was little. I didn't know much about Roy Clark until I bought some LP albums at a swap meet, which included one of his albums. To say the very least, he was an extremely underrated musician. He was amazingly talented at both guitar and banjo, and he had a very unique voice. As soon as he opened his mouth, you never had to ask who that was singing. Anyone familiar with vintage country music would recognize his voice in seconds. Thanks for showing us his final resting place. Oklahoma is a lovely state. If I had to live in the midwest again, that's where I would go. Good video, as always.

My Father controlled the TV when I was growing up, if we wanted to watch TV we watched what he had on, Hee Haw was a super great show.
Roy Clark was an outstanding musician who happened to have a gift for comedy as well. I still watch him and Buck Trent playing "Dueling Banjos", and he and Buck Owens just played off one another well.
I didn't know he was from Meherrin. Six Degrees time: my methhead brother spent a fair amount of time there in the regional jail. Meanwhile, I worked at the Cadillac dealership Jimmy Dean brought his Escalade in for services. He was known to be a bit of an a-hole, but his music and sausage are both great, so there's that.

In the 80s my dad always took me to his hometown North Carolina and my Aunt and Uncle watched Hee Haw every Saturday at Dinnertime. I wasn't use to country life. But I loved watching them enjoy the show.

I loved Hee Haw. I grew up in Georgia, but I was born in Bakersfield CA, so since Buck Owens was so well known in that area, my parents always watched it. I just grew up on it and always enjoyed it. Roy Clark was an amazing musician. The show still comes on RFD TV out of Fort Worth Texas.
I knew his daughter Donna who lived in my hometown of Parkersburg wva she was confined to a wheelchair she told me her dad left them and never would even call or was never in her life she was never bitter always a joyful person we built a ramp 4 her such a beautiful person

Roy Clark was born in Meherrin, VA. Lamont this town is located outside of Farmville, VA. I was born and raised in Farmville, spent time in Meherrin.

Roy Clark's talent was in his ability to pick the guitar. He along with performers like Les Paul and Chet Atkins made guitar playing an art. So many have come along to strum electric guitars, pick a few chords on bass, bang drums, and scream lyrics into microphones or just scream into microphones and claim to be talented. Nope, Roy Clark along with those previously mentioned, were real talent the real deal.

My family were Working Class Chicago. But we watched Hee Haw as a family for a long time. Didn't think we were better than. In fact some of the best friends of the family were people we knew in the far reaches of small town Wisconsin. Some as country as you can get outside of the South. Difference between being country and being a redneck. And even then, there's a difference between rednecks and racists.
