The expense of adopting is enormous. I think more people would adopt if they could afford to. I'm single and will never marry this late in life. Too old to try and have children. I'd love to adopt but cannot afford that 40,000-50,000 amount.

That's socialism (with a small 's'). Everybody is looked after in theory - I know it's not perfect but it has to be better than this system! Sure we get cool TV and good feels when 1 person is helped, but what of the 1000's of other very capable parents who miss out - and the kids too, especially the older ones.
