these Olympics showed that Team USA is very beatable in LA 2028... no more Curry Lebron and KD which lets be honest saved the day, whenever bucket or 3pt was needed most those 3 came in clutch..... Serbia&France are basically coming with same team with 4 year older Wemby. It will be interesting....

In 2001 Serbia displayed remarkable dominance in Europe by defeating every opponent by a margin of at least 10 points to secure the gold medal.
The following year, in 2002, they achieved victory in Indianapolis. A historic performance and gold medal.
Both teams were guided by the coaching of Svetislav Kari Pesic.
This team is considered the best Serbian squad, consisting primarily of Serbian players, with only two from Montenegro, Cabarkapa, and Drobnjak.
Scepanovic, another Montenegrin player, was part of the 2001 team but did not participate in 2002.
Therefore, it is accurate to refer to it as a Serbian team.

First, thank you very much for your detailed and transparent analysis. I've been watching Olympic Men's Basketball since 1972 to present. I'm a Warrior's fan from California so I especially enjoyed the Semi and finals. This was the most competitive Olympic basketball I've ever witnessed. This was the most entertaining and informative Olympics because I was able to see the same games though your eyes and with the explanation of domestic analysis. I'm a subscriber, and over the rest of the summer will start going though your earlier basketball video's. This is more entertaining than ESPN's First Take, etc... Good Luck to all of you! Honestly, usa was the best team on this olympics and obviously deserved gold, but many people get that game vs serbia very easy...
    1. People say Serbia choked and blame them even if 99%of that people's country wouldnt survive against them 5 minutes.
    2. The fact that serbia led during 37 minutes against DREAM TEAM OF AMERICA is mind blowing(which people don't credit them for enough)
    3. They say 1 refree call wouldn't change much... Man during that match there were at least 5 trevels by one of americans, few very important fauls(like jokic's block on davis or his 4th faul) which should not have been called if refrees use same criteria for both teams(like how much fauls bam, lebron or durant made and didn't get called? )

It's great to see Curry shine on the FIBA stage to cement his legacy. In 2010 he was 22, 4 years before his first all-star appearance and barely played. In 2014 he was more involved, especially in the semis against Lithuania but he was over shadowed by Irving, Harden and even Kenneth Faried and there was no "Curry moment". Deserved win for team USA in the finals, but I don't know, maybe because I'm french but I feel like guys like Curry seem to look like the overconfident guy looking down on everyone, especially he doesn't seem to show much respect to other countries. Sure he did awesome in the semi and finals, and he has all the right to be super confident, and he is a superstar, but there are guys like Tony Parker, Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, Ginobili who have a pretty nice resume too but look way more genuinely nice and easy to approach as a normal dude (not only now but when they were active).
Edit: I can add many players but I should especially not forget the Serbian team, who not only looks like super nice guys, but played with all their heart and soul and played amazingly well in their semi finals.
Edit 2: just to make it clear but I don't hate Curry, I don't know him well. He clearly didn't do anything that would deserve hate. I just say that I don't feel nice vibes from him, I don't appreciate his show off much somehow, just a personal preference but no big deal.

Disregarding what FIBA might say (amongst others), you ask the Serbs it is very simply - all other former Yugoslav republics chose to leave SFRJ (and later SRJ and later S&CG ). Just as the economic depth of former Yugoslavija was left with whoever was left (Serbia in the end), all former Yugoslav republics have no more claim as "theirs". Yes, they participated in all previous medal runs and should be mentioned as such as well and honored and celebrated. But Claim? No - only Serbia has the moral if not the legal claim as well. As such - having said that, which is the best "Serbian" team (including those that did not have Serbia on the jersey)? There can only be 2 answers: 1995 (the legendary, epic match against Lithuania in Athens) and the 2002 Indiannapolis teams. This 2024 does come reeeeeally close, though - making people believe again what we as a people can achieve and reviving the basketball myth that the older generations know (there was a certain respect/fear when it came to those older teams, especially from 1995 and later). Even for me as a Serb, it is hard to decide but somebody approaching the 50ies slowly, I have to admit: 1995 - simply because of the Zeitgeist of the time, its impact on the Serbian people, the cultural implications, licking the wounds of the Yugoslav break up. When it comes to the best team with "Srbija" written on the jerseys ... Again several options. But to me, there are the 2016 team/Rio, 2023/Manila and this 2024 team. All of them have their different places in my heart - equal but yet different. Congrats on the great coverage - keep them coming like that. And yes, this SRB bronze is like gold to us, absolutely no doubt.

Feeling sorry for people who missed 80s and 90s basketball. Different times different game and all, but back then the sport in general and especially the NBA was more about making it as difficult as possible for people to score and extremelky physical. This type of basketball produced tons of exceptional people because it waa too hard. Don't get me wrong there are still gifted people around but the easier you make the game the less good they get. Some of the people we're talking about today we wouldn't even bother with back then, they'd be bounced around like a ball in a pinball machine. Talking about the NBA mostly. Steph Curry and Lebron (not at the age of 39 though) would be playing but they'd be sidelined by guys like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan; they'd be competing for a spot in the team with guys like Thomas and Pippen. Watching that remarkable 3pointer from Curry and I couldn't help thinking this picture is soooo much Larry Bird, except that it was from 7.25m back then.Or maybe the guys of today they'd be even better players than they are today if they were put into much more difficult situations like it was back then, I guess we ll never know. Anyway a little bit of nostalgia in the mix I guess but my feeling is that these NBA guys of today look a bit lost dealing with European teams playing a game that in some ways resembles more the NBA game of old.

USA could’ve beaten teams a different number of ways with a different coach , what we saw is golden state , Steve Kerr is a one trick pony all he knows is to draw plays for Steph. Durant and Tatum won gold In 2020 without lebron and Steph. A different coach like coach K or popovich you’d see a very very different and better brand of basketball. We just saw kd and lebron just play through Steph curry which is all Kerr knows how to do and why Tatum couldn’t play because durant knows how to play with Steph and lebron have been playing with Durant in team USA a long time. We just saw 3 old players with experience play off each other . Serbia played more team basketball with actual coaching.

Great site and some good comments.
But come on guys, enough with the moral victories. "Bronze that shines like gold?" Lol. Did you all tell your wives that their cubic zirconia engagement rings shine like diamonds? Lol. The first 3 quarters for Serbia were magical. I thought I was watching the 2002 World Cup 2.0. But then the magic switched sides and USA snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. This demoralizes opposing teams’ and coaches’ psyches. Once the USA got past Serbia, I saw France as less of a threat. Serbia's more technically sound and has better shooters. Both teams have a very bright future. Tony Parker played for Team France in the wrong era.
The USA must take World Cups seriously like they did in 10 & 14 if they want continued success. France Serbia and Germany are the new Spain Argentina and Lithuania. While Sudan is the new Puerto Rico ( for now). Thanks David Stern & Boris Stankovic (RIP to both) your legacies live on through these tournaments. Cheers my FIBA friends..

The myth of the famous and invincible "dream team" has been destroyed in reality.
Is it the best and most crowded team of all time made up of the first five MVPs and "all star" players? If this is the "hall of fame" of basketball, we're going to abolish it as soon as tomorrow.
That "GOAT from Ali Express" had to "seriously talk to the judges" before the result was overturned. Sadness. For nothing.
The planet, or rather, anyone with an IQ higher than 22 has seen what they need to do.
The result is completely irrelevant, these guys from the hilly Balkans showed that they are better in a million dimensions: loop, attitude, combativeness, not an equal - but a superior game compared to the characters who were defeated in every sense for more than three quarters of the game. It is also ridiculous to compare their salaries, jersey sales, planetary statuses - or the fact that they are competing against a team that is realistically three times better than the "dream team" from 1992, anyway.
These boys are something out of the league.
And they are better because, regardless of the laughter of the game in which no one judged steps, carried balls, forced fouls and the literal play of the opposing team at the level of a fight - they were still better in every segment.
Considering where and how this unfortunate "Olympics" is played, which is anything but a sport and essentially a parody of sports - they won.
A team of boys in which NOBODY has any complexes, paid people to manage their profiles "professionally", no one needs proof, mistresses, scandals, no one is tattooed from head to toe, but they are all honest, healthy, normal and honest guys.
Bogi fake "goat" drives three beautiful mothers.
Avram passes under their basket at will.
The same ones who until yesterday were talking about how each of their 12 is better than Jokić have been talking for the last three days about how their 12 will beat that one Jokić. Now they tell me that all of Denver cheered against HIS national team because of Jokić. People love basketball.
    Smart enough, even too much.
    Myth busted.
    A beauty to behold.
    Well, that's a win.
I pee on their "results" and "medals".
    They beat me.
Because they are just the way they are, for the heart.

2012 and 2008 were way better Olympics. Spain was a true power house with elite offensive players and defensive players and they faced the like of Lebron, Wade and KD at their Best. When Serbia faced USA in 2014, they were annihilated by a young rooster (Kyrie, Harden, Cousins, Gay, Faried…).
This year had one of the weakest Team USA with old guys being the best and not even being at their best. How can people be so blind just to give credit to Serbia and France. WHY ?

Serbia today is just as good as Spain back then if not better. Jokić is better than the Gasol brothers. Bogdan Bogdanović is better than any guard on those Spanish teams. Avramović and Gudurić are better defenders than anyone on that Spanish team.
Why don't you look at what happened to that Spanish team in the 2010 world cup against Serbia? They lost. And they lost to Serbia again in the 2015 EuroBasket too. And that wasn't even a close game, Serbia easily won that game. And these Serbian teams in the 2009-2016 period were good, but not nearly as good as the Serbian team of 2024 and yet Serbia still had a 3-3 head to head record with the Spanish generation that you think is better than the current Serbian generation.
The only player for Serbia that played both in that 2014 final and today is Bogdan Bogdanović and he wasn't even close to his prime years in 2014, while Steph Curry, Irving, Harden, DeMarcus Cousins, AD, Klay Thompson were all in their prime in the 2014 world cup.

The 2024 Serbian team is slightly better than the Spanish teams from 2008, 2010, 2012 (all the way to 2019 when it was the end of that Spanish generation).
They lost. And they lost to Serbia again in the 2015 EuroBasket too (the Spanish roster in that EuroBasket was almost completely the same as in the 2012 Olympics).

As for 2008 and 2012 US teams vs current US team Lebron at those Olympics was nowhere near as good as Curry was in the semi finals and finals game of 2024. KD still played on the same level in these Olympics, especially in the first game against Serbia as he played in his prime years. Embiid, Anthony Edwards played well too. This US team is not much worse than the 2008 and 2012 teams, the difference is small, just like the difference between the 2024 Serbian team and 2008-2019 Spanish generation is small (small in Serbia's favor).

@@DipsAndPushups , you say it yourself : the american players were in their prime years in 2014 or 2012. If today, the same at the dawn of their retirement are still the best in their team while being weaker than what they used be, it definitely shows this current USA squad is far from being one of the top USA team.
And for the Gasol brothers : as good as Jokic can be, he would have struggled a lot more in FIBA agaisnt the Gazol bro and Ibaka.
In 2010, Serbia did beat Spain without Pau (their best player). In 2015, Spain is no longer a top team and this exemple is irrelevant as we’re talking about the great teams USA had to face. To me, and to this day, no European team could have beaten the 2008 and 2012 Spanish team.
