This Shocking Roach Infested Motel Should be Shut Down!

- I stayed at the bug ridden Studio 6 Motel at Market Center near downtown Dallas after witnessing the total eclipse of the sun earlier in the day.
It was a massive come down after previously staying in the expensive Lorenzo Art Hotel.
This bug infested motel needs shutting down and fumigating.
Oh Stephen, this was a good one, £89 for a night at Motel 6, the reason you were charged that is because you had pets in the room.
If you complain to the Governor on Reception that there were two roaches in your bathroom, they will probably say " there's supposed to be six!" 😂

The woman probably booked a room there and decided to sleep outside instead! I think I would have slept on a bench first before that room! Plus you should have asked for a rebate, you asked for a single and ended up sharing!😂😂😂. Stay safe we want you back in England safe and sound!❤️❤️

Stephen, if I was you, and if you can manage to get some still shots as well as some of the video footage that you have. I would get in contact with the Motel 6 corporate office, ( hopefully you still have your receipts ! ) and report it. Having had worked in the US Hotel / Motel industry I can tell you that franchisees hate getting messages from the corporate office. It would also be helpful to other travelers if you were to inform the City of Dallas public health department.
I am an ex pat, I live in Ohio now, but grew up in the UK and trips to Blackpool were quite regular during the 70s and 80s and on a couple of occasions during the 90s,. We would stay at The Glenroy Hotel on Trafalgar Rd. Lots of happy memories.
So sorry you had to experience that during your trip to the States.

I am a big tea drinker. In the USA you have to settle for black Pekoe tea ( like Lipton's tea) in restaurants as most people here drink coffee. Some restaurants do not serve tea. Most of the better restaurants will have Earl Grey and English Breakfast teabags available. Denny's is no longer a restaurant that Americans like to eat at.

The Fridge, Best thing I've ever seen, Loved it, a real energy saver, Id bet that Fridge was in that room because the locks on the connecting room was broken.

I'd have slept in the car
When I go traveling I always bring 4-6 large plastic bags
I get out what I need and then I cover my suitcases with the plastic bag.
I use 2 if them.
One on regular then the second one the opposite way.
Plus I hang the suitcase in the closet if possible to keep it off the floor or I keep it in the bathroom.
Okay, it’s not 100 percent foolproof but I try the best I can to keep travelers out of my suitcases.
Plus, I put a hand towel on the floor of the shower or tub so I don’t touch the surface with my feet.
Travel with Lysol wipes help as well. Wipe the door knobs, phone , remotes etc. I’m not a crazy person with this stuff but anything helps.

Motel Six has been going for years. Has a generally good reputation for cheaper digs. The only problem I can remember at the one here in Bakersfield, California is the time the maid found a dead bloke under a bed in one of the rooms.

Terrible just terrible shocking stay safe my friend
E-mail CEO of the company, I had to do this with Expedia as hotel in Blackpool was filthy, wipe feet on way out kinda place. I didn't stay 1 night was booked in from Fri-Mon. Keep the e-mail short and to the point, start by saying you had only heard good reports and then go on to say you were shocked to discover bugs in the bathroom. Not what you expected from a hotel of this standard(lol) Your money will be refunded, mines was in next day. The people at the top don't know the half of what goes on - Good Luck, stay safe.

A lot of the cheaper motel/hotels over here are a bit ropey. Some of them have rooms set aside for welfare recipients. We like to stay in nice hotels, but when I'm by myself I'll sometimes sleep in the back of the car. I have a Toyota Sequoia. I removed the rear seats so loads of room. Usually try and park in the car park of a nice hotel.
Always take a travel kettle, never use the one provided by the Hotel! If you know you know!

Stephen you need to be careful going to places like that,its dangerous,its clear to see its a rough place. Tourists are in danger going to no go places. That big fridge will be for the dead bodies 😮😂

Denny's is a national treasure/disaster, I used to eat there, I was really hoping you'd review Denny's while in the states.
Their hash browns eggs and toast is alright but these days the Sausage links are the size of my little finger and the Bacon is see thru while being so tiny, I don't know how they get away with it.
Tea, America has no idea about British Tea, they think tea should be flavoured, A waitress one time offered to warm up Iced Tea for my Mum thinking it would be the same, My Mum got to a point where she would carry T-bags in her purse and ask for a cup of HOT water, Its the only way to go.

I’ve stayed in Motel 6 quite a bit in the past, more than 20 years ago. They were always good value and clean and perfectly acceptable. Looks like they’ve gone downhill now. I was in Boston last October and looked for a Motel 6 that I’d stayed in some years back and found it had been demolished! Apparently there was a big drug problem there and someone had been murdered there. Probably best to avoid nowadays 😳
I've heard they take in people with social problems. That might explain some of the weird behaviour of the guests I encountered.
Thank you for another entertaining video, Stephen. Maybe the screens around the hotel reception are post Covid, and they've just not taken them down. But maybe not. I guess you can't be too careful in Dallas eh.
They didn't have screens at the posher hotels. Maybe they perform a double function?

My brother-in-law and my sister stayed at a hotel in Spain some year's and while they walk through the local market they bought a half kilo of strawberries, the strawberries were left in the their hotel room for a few hours while they had walk around the local streets, by the time they got back to their room the place was over run with the little beggers !! My brother-in-law ended throwing the strawbs out the window and had to crack on to the reception that roaches had come up through the shower drain !!

Hahahahaha sorry mate got to laugh. It really is hit or miss with hotels/motels. We went to a supposedly really good hotel last year at Chesapeake and at $250 per night, I was fuming. It was a s**t tip, no bugs but way below spec. My son and his family had an identical room on the floor below, same price and? It was just as bad. Looks like you got a baddun but, put it all down to experience and you now have a good crap spec to remember. Still you made it through, lived to tell us all the experience and provided a few laughs. Hope the rest of the trip pans out better. :-D

Roaches are very common owing to the heat. When I stayed at a private residence many years ago with a friend they had a roach problem. The friend and I had to leave the house for the day whilst the owners fumigated the place with a powerful insect killer. We returned at dusk and hoped that was it. This was in the city of Corpus Christi on the Gulf Coast.

Lloyd Grossman actually stayed there many years ago, he used to do a tv programme called "through the keyhole" after staying there he called that hotel "through the sh1thole"

Aircon is much more powerful than a fridge, as it has to remove the heat from the whole room, a fridge just has to remove the heat from a smaller room eg it's compartments, which are much better insulated than any hotel room could ever be.

As a British tourist, I have stayed at hundreds of US hotels in many States, some fantastic, some not very good but in all cases I ask to view the room first. If there is something I am unhappy about then I ask to be given another room or I just move on. In your situation, did you ask for another room? Finally, you should send video evidence off to both the Hotel management and the corporate HQ asking for a full refund.

Love Dennys! The Grand Slam breakfasts with a stack of pancakes, whipped cream and maple syrup are delicious. I-Hop are good too.
How times change, 89-92 l delivered cars all over the USA and mostly stayed in that chain and l never had a problem. Businesses like this now are no longer personable, everybody from the employees to the customer are churned & exploited and whenever they are found out it's...."We can assure that we are committed to customer satisfaction in our very DNA and this episode in no way represents are core values and furthermore ..."

Nobody I know including myself would ever stay in a motel 6. They are also in a run down part of town usually. Hampton or comfort inn.
Well, that's Motel 6 crossed off my list. Someone told me they put-up people there who who have social problems.
