maharaj digvijaysinhji belonged from Jamnagar gujarat. In 1942 he established the Polish Children's Camp in Jamnagar-Balachadi for refugee Polish children who were brought out of the USSR during World War II. It existed until 1945, when it was closed and the children were transferred to Valivade, a quarter of the city of Kolhapur. The camp site today is part of 300 acre campus of the Sainik School, Balachadi. The Jamsaheb Digvijaysinh Jadeja School in Warsaw was established to honour this legacy.

We Poles have very good memory. We remember all the harm that happened to us but we prefer to remember good things. We Poles remember a good Maharaja. We remember and we will always remember. We will always be very grateful. Children are the greatest treasure. Good Maharaja has become part of our greatest treasure. Respect to the end of the world and one day longer!

The polish ambassador to India in late 90's was educated in BHU, Varanasi. He spoke hindi very fluently and correctly. His son was studying in St. Stephen's and was completely Indian in his behaviour & when speaking in Hindi.

That Indian Maharaja which you are talking about was Maharaja of Nawanagar( modern day Jamnagar), the place I belong to. He gave them shelter at nearby place called Balachadi, where he built Sainik School(military school) for the polish children which had all the amenities like playground etc so that Polish childrens also have quality education. This benevolent and kind gesture of our late Maharaja is remembered greatly and talked about in Gujarati folk events which are called "daayro".
Fun Fact: Maharaja RanjitSinhJi started widely popular Ranji Cricket and India has seen many cricketers from Jamnagar like Ajay jadeja, Vinu Mankad, Ravindra Jadeja etc.
Proud to be living in such a historically important place Jamnagar.

Great thing that you had made a vblog on this. Was hoping that you would raise this story as an important Indo Polish connection. Had hoped to see more about Poland and the horrors that they went through during the WW2 & Communist eras. There is also an amazing documentary made by the survivors of the families. If you can find it go through it for the details. Also a movie on him is coming up and will be released this year starring Sanjay Dutt.
