In my opinion, the soundtrack is perfect for the movie. Such a wonderful soundtrack.
Every person I've ever shown this movie to who had never seen it ( let alone heard of it ) ended up loving it. One of my favorite films.
It's so good.
This film hit us like a fist in the face when it was first released in the 80's. Every actor brought their A-Game & Friedkin's direction was excellent. Just imagine how brutal this was back in the day. We'd never seen anything like it.
The song to live and die in la is great
My favorite Friedkin movie, and in my top 5 of all time. Love it!
2pac favorite movie . So much he did a song called to live and die in LA
A few months ago I did a marathon of Friedkin films and man was he underrated in the sense that he is usually bogged down to the guy who directed the exorcist but pretty much everything he did was really impressive
The French Connection and Sorcerer are two must see William Friedkin films. Hunted is pretty decent as well.
Friedkin was a master with guts of steel. To Live and Die in LA is my favorite 80s movie. Check out French Connection, Sorcerer, Cruising and Killer Joe. As far as William Peterson watch Manhunter the better film based on the novel Red Dragon.
Watched Cruising recently and loved it. Gotta get to French Connection next!
Petersen
Great film and a superb transfer showing what a brilliant filmmaker Friedkin was. William Peterson was excellent in this.
Petersen
Seen it when it first hit Theaters. Excellent Film. Never to late to review any film. Thanks for the review bro.
Don't worry about being late to a release. You have more than once convinced me to buy a release with a "late" video. This one included.
Awesome to hear! This one is well worth your time and money!
Love this movie.. Neo noir masterpiece. Has some of the best car chase scenes ever put to film.
William Petersen is also good in Manhunter
Yes! Got my copy about a month ago. 1st time watch for me.. and I loved it! The chase scene is full-on 5-star GTAV!! Friedkin’s commentary is solid.
Awesome flick! William Peterson was also in Manhunter
Petersen
Don't forget. William Peterson was also in manhunter that came out the following year in the summer.
You need to watch The French Connection and The French Connection 2 also. The first one is one of the best movies of all time imo. Hopefully we get them in 4K
Besides Manhunter, Petersen was also Pat Garrett in Young Guns 2.
I loved this movie
great movie! saw it in the theater back in the day. pre-ordered the 4k. got it a week late. no biggie.
Movie is pure cool
Agreed!
If you like William Petersen, you have to check out "Manhunter". Hoping this gets a 4K release. It's the original movie that dealt with Hannibal Lector (based on the novel "Red Dragon".
this movie is better than most criterion films and the soundtrack kicks ass
He wasn't just in a lot of CSI shows, he was the main character, minus a couple of seasons
Wouldn't the main character also be in a lot of episodes? Lol
Happy Disney does not own this one
I watched this for the first time yesterday on DVD and it blew me away. Especially the score and the 5.1 during the fire. Seriously considering getting this 4K if the audio is just as good
Great movie, great soundtrack. R.I.P. William Friedkin.
When you said the car chase was “so freaking awesome”, I thought you said “so Friedkin awesome”.
It works both ways I think? Lol
Watch William Peterson in Manhunter. Wang Chung is the score and I love it.
William Petersen also turned in a pretty solid performance as Reese Witherspoon's father in "Fear."
Ohhhh he was in that! Damn. I love that movie.
You know what Ken this might be the coolest thumbnail ever! Great movie that looked great and holy shit that ending, it was a first time viewing for me and also RIP William Friedkin! 🙏
Haha! Thank you! Great movie!
William Petersen was in Young Guns 2 and Manhunter also.
A couple of other reviewers here on TH-cam have criticised this restoration but I honestly couldn't fault it. I thought it was incredible.
It’s pretty obvious that those reviewers have never taken an analog photography course in their lives and can’t understand the chemistry between film emulsion and light. One in particular complained about so-called inconsistencies with grain, but couldn’t realize that dimly-lit scenes yield a more pronounced grain structure than those captured during daytime. Film is light-hungry, so it’ll result in a clearer image when shot in a brighter space.
I have all 3 formats now, DVD,BLU RAY, BOUGHT 4K YESTERDAY, IM WATCHING 2DAY. GOOD VIDEO
While 2pac was alive. He said his favorite movie was this. So much he made a song called to live in die in LA true story ken.
Ohhh nice!
You NEED to see Mississippi Burning
Yes Ken, you Have to Watch THE FRENCH CONNECTION and SORCERER.
Not yet
Great review Ken. I just bought/watched this myself for the first time a few weeks back. Really good film. William Peterson's character was such a corrupt asshole that I actually found myself rooting for his demise lol. And Dafoe was awesome in this film.
I agree with you there. From the car chase on, I was not rooting for that character. Lol
I just wanted to comment on that thumbnail 👏 👏
Haha! Thank you!
To Live and Die in La is awesome!!
I enjoyed the Wang Chung soundtrack stuff a lot for this one. I think it's intended to be a contrast to the dark, gritty, 70s-ish visuals and plot.....sort of an 80s meets 70s kind of thing.
Definitely see that. You wouldn't find this type of music in Taxi Driver. Lol
@@midlevelmedia Yeah, Taxi Driver is an interesting comparison. I hadn't thought of that, but now that you said it, it's pretty obvious.
One of the best. Glad to hear the 4K turned out well.
Thanks for the review!
William Pedersen was in Mindhunter
I've never seen this movie but now I'm super excited to check it out!
It's great Dude! Watch immediately!
The car chase is incredible
I can’t agree with you on the soundtrack. Wang Chung did a fantastic job and it fits the movie perfect.
Thank you for your nice review. This movie is on my top 10 -list of all time. It is so good! Lovely review, but like this other dude, I also loved the soundtrack. To me it´s perfect fit for the movie. But you cannot compare different tastes and it was also refreshing to see your point on it.
I get it. Just kind of took me out of the dark, gritty mood the actual film was portraying. Didn't feel like it fit. Minor gripe for a really great film though.
I pre-ordered this, and when it came in, it was the bluray. I accidentally ordered the wrong version. I sent it back and will get the 4k soon.
Great movie & great soundtrack from Wang Chung with one of the best car chase scenes ever!
Great crime scene thriller I love him in streets of fire
I had fun with this one and agree the 4K looks great
Thanks for watching!
My opinion who cares review it anyways. I’m a big kino 4K supporter. I’ll watch the Kino reviews
I appreciate that!
Ken you have to see French Connection!! Best car chase ever! I hope they release it on 4k soon!
I'm going to check it out soon man.
@@midlevelmedia good review brother
Great soundtrack ❤
Watch Manhunter by Michael Mann. It stars William Peterson
Great recommendation. I hope we get Manhunter and Thief on 4k.
Have you seen Damn Fool Idealistic Crusade’s video on this 4K?
Yeah, make your start to turn on all them
Will this ever be released digitally?
And, all these years later, idiots keep on insisting in writing Peterson instead of PETERSEN.
What?
The score was great
