Crocodile, while strong, is not hella durable. He wasn't "introduced too early", he's not a monster of strenght, and clearly got stronger as the story went on. But Alabasta crocodile was strong as fuck, and his defeat to Luffy was logical (The ONLY bullshit part was Luffy surviving the venom, which is now retconned to have been thanks to his Zoan durability. Outside of that, since the second fight, it was made VERY CLEAR, Luffy's hands and feet were strong enough to damage Crocodile)

I'm a MASSIVE Crocodile fan, and yes, he was introduced to be the end of big shots, but then Oda changed plans with the Shichibukai, BUT, people really missrepresent him, and act as if he suddenly became miles stronger in Marineford, when he didn't. Just like many of Luffy's opponents, Luffy was strong enough to damage them, but started losing because of other factors. Also, he has much greater feats of strenght on Alabasta than in Impel Down\Marineford, but many people don't re-read Alabasta and Impel\Marineford to actually compare and scale, and instead go by memory
We have yet to see Crocodile post time skip. But we know he's going to be important. My guess is that post skip Crocodile > post skip Doflamingo. I think before Doflamingo > Crocodile. I think they're going to reintroduce a power revamped and exponentially stronger Crocodile. Just my guess!

For me the perfect ending in the Alabasta bow would be like this '' In the last fight of the crocodile against Luffy, the Crocodile had a desert sword more powerful than Luffy's punch, Luffy loses and falls to the ground for a few seconds, meanwhile the crocodile receives a phone call at den den mushi and is informed that a navy admiral is approaching Alabasta and Crocodile flees, Luffy gets up and saves Nico Robin, Luffy receives the credits for defeating Crocodile but Luffy says in anger who didn’t defeat him and doesn’t know where he is, Alabasta is safe, but ahead in the anime, in Impel Down prison Luffy discovers that when trying to escape from Alabasta the Crocodile and Daz Bonez ended up finding the Navy Admiral, they fight, Crocodile manages to injure and hinder the Admiral's work but even so he loses and goes to prison ''

Not too shabby with some of the effects, but I'd have cranked the speed of the edits with a lot of the different segments of the song. But that's just me. Dragula's one of those songs that you really wanna either cut fast to or crank the speed. Hell, nothing wrong with both.

I think if he coated his hook with armorment haki, like zoro did with his swords against pica, it would be even more sick and dangerous then having both his hands
