I love the fact that you can watch this without the sound. It prevents distraction through choppy and poorly edited vocal explanations, and it really makes you watch what's going on, rather than listen to what's going on. Focuses one's attention very well. Props and likes to you, sir.
This was not the first roll tutorial I ever saw, but it was definitely the best. Coming back now after having practiced my roll for about a year now. I can roll on cement now with very few mess ups. I would highly recommend this video to anyone interested in Parkour or Freerunning.
best roll tutorial i've seen on the web, and trust me, i've seen them all. it is rly a PROBLEM SOLVING tutorial and not the basic stuff "place ur hands like that and roll on ur back hoping u wont exit ur roll screaming" helped a lot, thx Adam
Awesome tutorial. I like how there was text first, so that we got an idea of what you were talking about, and then video after to clarify everything and give us an actual picture. This is possibly the best tutorial I've ever seen, about anything. Subscribed.
Oh man, this video is awesome! I have been working with all sorts of variations on the pk roll for the last year, made necessary as my muscle memory gets tired quickly due to lack of conditioning. This video helped me realize more things that I am doing right and more ways to change what I am doing wrong! This is one of the best analytical videos for possible problems and solutions that I have found in all my research into this one move! Way to go!
I must say that this is the best roll tutorial I've ever seen on the net Thanks that opened my eyes a lot to the various possibilities on how to do a roll correctly!
This really truly is the best video for rolls ive ever seen. *High fives* Im very very bony and i have my roll down but i always hit my shoulder and my hip. I did not even think about the angles or any of this. Thank you so much for making such a great video. Im sure it will help us all. Now comes the practice. Then i can finally conquer that nasty cement.
Thank you so much, I've been doing Parkour for 3 years and have never managed to master the roll but I just watched this and have practiced for around 45 mins now and it is already helping immensely :) Instant favorite right there.
Great video. I knew all the things this guy said, learning them from my own experience. This guy just showed me a way to explain the roll to others in a better way. Nice job, I give 5 stars.
Thank you for making this it realy helped me with my roll because i havn't been able to roll on concrete without hurting my hip. Thanks for making such an in depth guide compared to all these 1 or 2 minute videos.
All of your videos RULE. Seriously, all other tutorials I had seen focus on one particular technique, which confuses you, this allowed me to understand the only 'proper' way to do it is the best one for you. (:
All of you at HawaiiPK/UrbanCurrent are freaking beast. You guys have the best tutorials out there. I'd hope to see even more, but it seems to me like you've put a tutorial out for every thing I've seen done.
I'm a thin, slightly bony person and I have no real issues with my hip. However, i do sometimes feel it when I screw up my roll. My shoulder and spine sometimes take quite a hit. Thanks for this tutorial, I will have to impliment the things you showed.
this (in my humble opinion) is one of the best rolling tutorials out there! I can't wait to go out and try this stuff :) thanks for the tutorial...my bruised bones thank you even more.
This so probably one of the most helpful videos I have ever found, and I have looked! I do come from a martial arts backround and I always had problems with my knee in a front breakfall.... So in short THANK YOU!
MAN THANKS ADAM!!! This didn't just give me a touch on improving my roll...my roll now is a HELL lot different and easier than the last roll I was doing. And again, thanks dude!
Thank You thank you thank you!!! My hip bone has always been my problem with this roll and I've been struggling with it for years. I've changed form after form, and almost gave up rolling excep from high places, but the angle tip has really helped me out thank you!!!!
You're the best dude! I just rolled at 90° degree angle and I avoided hitting my spine and hip bone... Now I need to practice on 35° I think just to keep the momentum on running.
If the fall is high enough, the momentum from the drop will help you collapse into your roll easier, it will also help keeping our back off the ground.
This a very helpful tutorial. I have come from a Martial Arts background and have been having some of the problems adressed in your video. Hopefully I can go away and fix some if not all of them. Thanks once again for such a comprehensive tutuorial!
this video was a BIG help whenever i rolled i either landed flat on my back or my shoulder hit the ground pretty hard this video helped a lot and now i think i know what i was doing wrong before
This video is very helpful! I have a natural jumping ability and am interested in parkour and always wanted to learn how to do the 'roll move' and I just started using your video, I'm hoping I can learn how to do the roll perfectly using it.
not a bad tuturial. just remember not all martial arts teach the roll the way you described. there is a method were one's spine never hits the ground and the rear leg or knee points forward or in the direction of momentum. on face book "Darkburg" will be posting this version in the next couple off weeks . your ball of toe modification is awesome.keep up the good work.
Omg! This looks like an amazing tutorial! My top shoulder area kept hitting the ground during my rolls and it would hurt a fair amount. I'm going to try this.. really hope my shoulder loves me for it.
Before this tutorial, i was rolling perfect for a non-bony person. However, i'm bony, so my hip hurt for weeks after rolling on concrete, and i just said "oh, that's normal" you probably saved me surgery! tysm :D
I had this same problem man. It just takes time. Keep drilling it and drilling it. I am now to the point where I can dive roll on to concrete. Once it is completely painless on grass, it's time to graduate to the bearer of cruelty: Concrete. Know when enough is enough. A bruise on your back will go away in 2-3 days (it does for me). Once it's healed, get back out there and keep drilling it. "Practice makes perfect." as they say.
The diamond roll is constantly done by traceurs who don't deal with intense situations. Typically it's good for rolling while running, but the issue is that unless you are wearing gloves (or have super tough hands) when you roll on gravel, asphalt or rocks, you'll take a bit of it home if you know what I mean. So to prevent bloody hands and using a tweezer every time you go diamond, try restricting diamond to soft surfaces, and drill one of these rolls to be more versatile in environments.
I had my roll perfect and didn't do much parkour for a while due to a very cold winter, then this summer my rolls have been off, and often hurt my hip bone. I had spent countless hours drilling trying to get it right and neglecting what I was doing wrong. My rolls are now back and functioning properly.
Recently have been having hip bone pain from rolls, a bad habit must have developed, back to the drawing board, thanks very much for this detailed vid :)
Great clip, thank you. One tip: show the examples play at least twice and/or with a slow motion version. That will help to see clearly what you're doing and how you posture the body. Looking forward to more material!
So am I, it makes it a bit harder but keep at it and you'll get it eventually. Practice on a soft surface until you're comfortable with rolling, then progress to gradually harder surfaces to find out what spots hurt because of protruding bones. Then keep repeating that until you fix it.
it took me at least 2-3 months to be able to solve my hip bone problem. i went through lots of trial and error (with pain). so if you're still getting the hip bone problem keep trying different angles of the roll and don't hurt yourself too much. i'm just saying.. don't give up. have patience.
@RussellBanta like the tutorial says it takes a seriously long time, took me 2 years of experimenting. I found that I need to start my roll with my hands way out to my side and finish by reaching way out to my side, that helps me.
thanks a lot. I was hurting my shoulder every time i rolled but now I know the problem and I fixed it and now I can roll on hard surfaces a lot better. thanks : D
if u wanna jump off high spots. practice how smooth your roll is and how smoothly u go from your feet to the roll. jump from about 3-4 ft and when you land u roll. keep practicing until you feel that your legs are taking less impact. u will begin to get a more fluid roll.
I don't even parkour, but this was useful because I can't even forward roll without hurting myself, in particular my neck and spine, so this is useful :) Thanks
Well after practicing a little, I've found that if you use your fore arm to just deliver the back of your shoulder to the ground at the right angle, you'll feel almost no pain at all.
OMG I FINALLY DID IT!!! I've kept on practicing on my room with a soft mat but still always hit my hip bone, I decided to roll from my right ride which kinda felt weird at first but now I finally did it!!! n then took off the mat n did it on plain ground!!
Thanks for another great vid. The shoulder tips helped a little, but I still feel just too much impact on my upper back, I often just get the wind knocked out of me. Fortunately I've got enough fat to cover my hip, lol. Just gotta work on that upper back.
dude you are the FIRST ONE i have seen who does the roll good,, :D everybody bend there legs , if you watch the roll of david belle or sebastien foucan you can see that they have there legs tretched:D if you know what i mean, Just watch some vids from david belle's roll that helped me a lot, and it avoid painfull rolls. please read my advice, take care
@pivotwous - guide your self with ur hands dnt jus roll forward plant ur hands dwn and colapse them as you roll forward. your hands should remain on the ground until your shoulder touches the ground. hope it hepls
Trust me i've had ankel issues. Sprained both my ankels landing wrong and bumed out the arch of my foot for about a month of healing and recovary time. You dont want to land wrong or it can cost you some real major problems training wise.
It means when ur roll tork ur body so u roll from shoulder to opposite hip example if u roll on ur right shoulder tork ur body to the left so u will roll diagon
no, i didn't delay. the thing was i did it too quick. when i landed, i sort of sprung up when i left my feet. well my feet do sometimes come off the ground but that's just because i am tucking in a way that the middle of my sholuder (sort of where you said to land on) is the first thing to touch. because of the bounce though, i ducked in a little more vertical then i would want. i'm just trying to spare someone a concussion by bringin it up. i don't think i suffered a concussion though.
I can kind of do it now but only sometimes... Don't do it too much because I really hurt my spine and had to go to the chiropractor for a week to get it only slightly better... I think it's because we are subconsciously rolling onto our spines even though our bodies tilt on the way. When you roll, try to roll almost sideways. it might help.
Personally I don't let my elbow touch the floor at all. I just use my 'rolling' forearm to swing my body so that I hit the ground with the back of my left shoulder. All while pushing the ground off with my slightly bent right arm. Then it just takes off from there.
@Adam It's under my knee, above the ankle, like the side of my shin sort of (Sorry I can't recall the anatomical name at the moment). I roll Left shoulder to right hip and it's my right leg...if that matters
great vid..any chance of an explaination on the adjusting the angle for the hip bone..i can see that you come out at a different angle but how do you do it
Very good tutorial though might I make a reccomendation: Zoom farther out with that camera or have someone hold it for you. It was very difficult for me to see how you were entering your rolls. Great job!
@PycckuuOrel94 also wear a t-shirt and jumper but allows you to move easily, then try different rolls on the grass. one idea i can say is when ur feet touch the ground and u begin to roll, tuck ur head in and turn it slightly, when ur first foot comes off the ground kick with the other allowing the momentum to carry on, and ur spine or hip won't catch. as for ur shoulder, its the angle and rotation when coming into contact with the ground :)
It's like a parkour roll, but basically you dive into the wall, parkour roll against it, then kick off the wall with your feet and land standing upright. I didn't think it was possible until I saw it...
I love the fact that you can watch this without the sound. It prevents distraction through choppy and poorly edited vocal explanations, and it really makes you watch what's going on, rather than listen to what's going on. Focuses one's attention very well.
Props and likes to you, sir.
Best roll tutorial.

It's one of the most detailed tutorial ever and i doubt anyone would find it hard to nt do the roll properly after this :P
this video was a BIG help
whenever i rolled i either landed flat on my back or my shoulder hit the ground pretty hard
this video helped a lot and now i think i know what i was doing wrong before
This is the best tutorial i've come across, thank you so much.
Props man,
Cole
probably one of the best tutorials i have see! very nice job!!!
thanks, ive practiced karate for years and the part explaining how the knee motion works made a lot of sense!
Thanks, bro. I've been having alot of trouble rolling on concrete, and this greatly helped.
You made my roll 80% better by me watching this. Now I'll just have to do it over and over till I work out the kinks now that I know what to do thx
This video is very helpful! I have a natural jumping ability and am interested in parkour and always wanted to learn how to do the 'roll move' and I just started using your video, I'm hoping I can learn how to do the roll perfectly using it.
omg thank you so much for the guide. My shoulder and hip bones have been sore for weaks but now rolling is painless

I'm not even really into parkour. I just had an annoyingly painful fall and figured I could learn the basic roll. works wonders.
something that noone ever told me but REALLY helps, when u land make sure ur feet are at an angle...about 45, u WILL not hit ur hip
The diamond roll is constantly done by traceurs who don't deal with intense situations. 5/5 Now I don´t have any problems with the roll

Woow finally... This is the best roll tutorial on youtube!!!
best tutorial on youtube IMO
Yes, it helped! And helped a lot. Thank you for dedicating all the details that could help the mastering of the technique. Also, great song!
Thank you, very helpful video. This will help my Ninjutsu & Parkour, and help me to stop hitting my bony hips on the ground!

This will certainly help me tweak my roll. Thanks.
Thank you very much for this video. Fantastically in-depth. Much appreciated!
I keep hitting the top of my stupid shoulder on the ground. I'm working on it, but seriously! Ouch! Thanks for the tips on how to fix that.
Did you ever figure that out?
I'm having the same problem with my bony ass shoulders.
Thanks so much this video helped a lot, i am only 14 and need a lot of help and you gave me exactly what i needed!
even though I can do the roll now and am only watching this for curiosity, My weak spot was my right kidney.
ElPanadro: Which bone? You're kneecap is the patella, the bone on top of your shin is the tibia, and the bone underneath that is the fibula.
i love that feeling when having that perfect roll
ThAnKs AdAm
you've addressed exactly the problems I have!! thanks a ton!!!
this is the only roll that works for me! Thanks!

Super Helpfull. It must work well cause Adams doing pretty big rolls on what looks like cement. IF i tried that it would hurt.
@Adam
It's under my knee, above the ankle, like the side of my shin sort of (Sorry I can't recall the anatomical name at the moment).
I roll Left shoulder to right hip and it's my right leg...if that matters
great vid..any chance of an explaination on the adjusting the angle for the hip bone..i can see that you come out at a different angle but how do you do it
i learned the propper way to roll from this video neither my shoulder or my back hurt me anymore
Very good tutorial though might I make a reccomendation: Zoom farther out with that camera or have someone hold it for you. It was very difficult for me to see how you were entering your rolls. Great job!
This tutorial is really much better than al the other f**kin* vids!
Oh wow, thanks for this. I have downloaded it and saved as mp4 to ake to the park and practice. Many, many thanks!
THIS IS AMAZING!!! Thank you for the detailed explanation!
this video is great because i can now solve what i'm doing wrong
@TheGuardian163 thats the whole point, u try urself to land differently and see which landing fits you..
It's like a parkour roll, but basically you dive into the wall, parkour roll against it, then kick off the wall with your feet and land standing upright. I didn't think it was possible until I saw it...
i just started nd my shoulders were hurtin alot but now i no y nd i fixd it very quickly. THANK YOU!
