    Best bridge in the world. travel north or south, look left or right.Day or night and you have the best views that London has to offer! Also the portland stone washes itself after every down pour of rain!!

    There is a door under the bridge which is a fire escape from the projection room of NFT2, the NFT was, and possibly still is licensed for nitrate film. I have been in that projection room a couple of times, probably about twenty years ago, and there was some exposed stonework at that time which I think may possibly be part of the old bridge. Does anybody know?

      I worked as a projectionist in the NFT during the very early 70s and you are correct, the roof of NFT2 projection room is the bottom of the bridge.

    The Waterloo Sunset fact may be correct but Waterloo Sunset was actually written about the Mersey and only changed to Waterloo later, according to Ray Davis

    Ugliest bridge in London, but one of the best views.

      It's nothing special but I wouldn't say it's ugly.
      I always tell visitors to London to head over it at sunset if the weather's good. It's the only bridge with views over the city as well as Westminster and the Eye. Shame about the traffic though.

    we don't celebrate that this was a bridge that was built by women anywhere near as much as we should the plaque that does mention it is hidden under the bridge and that's shameful. For years I thought it was some weird urban legend.
