Went to the first of 10 beekeeping 101 class last night with 200 attending and Fat Bee Man was the only TH-cam guy worthy of following. All the rest take with a grain of salt and sort though it all carefully. I have never heard so many grown men rolling on the floor and laughing anytime the term "flow hive" was used. Yeah they sure did look easy though didn’t they?
I have done this for years, but what I do is instead of mashing the strip into place I cut the strip into pieces and glue the pieces immediately with hot wax. I looks good and produces a lot more queen cells.
Watch the FBM's videos on splitting hives. I watched each of them a few times before i tried it and it really works. not hard at all. i've only got one year under my belt as a beekeeper and have used Don's method with great secuess. hats off to Don. this man is a blessing to beekeeping.
well by pressing the wax on the bar about a inch apart helps hold it to bar and spaces it for good cells to be made.if you attach any other way the bees wont make queen cells or if they do the waxed together and makes it hard to separate them. Don
I seen this video several years ago. When I was in my early twenties I had a man that I was buying my queens from. And I loved it. 5 dollars apiece. I had to give it up because it complicated my life not understanding bees take your money and time when you start. As does everything. Well I’m back and it’s still challenging but I’m more stubborn now than then. I’ve always remember one man up front above everyone else. The queen man. I didn’t understand what he was teaching me would still be with me today. We now call them mentors and a friend. I’m back in and this year I’m starting getting into raising my own queens. But I’m still not able to be as free as I’d like to be but I’m trying to be. Thanks for doing your video i didn’t realize it was you that made it. No telling how many times I thought of it. Lord bless and keep thanks.
Great Video Don! I am gradually replacing my plastic foundation in the brood chamber with wax so that I will be able to use this technique on my favorite hives down the road.
Thank you for the tip. I am going to make a new bee farm in Sri Lanka. I have previews experience in this field. but now I am planing to do in big scale.
This is actually really really smart. I just grafted for the first time 3 days ago and i think its going good but this is so much easier. Thanks mr don
Just want to express my gratitude to you Sr and like I always appreciate your help with all this information that is important and simple for us;may God bless your life and family
It is a good idea to reinspect the frame after 4 days in the hive so that any sealed queen cells can be removed as they were raised from too old larvae to make good queens ie. they must have been 4 days old already when the queen cell was started. It is also worthwhile protecting selected unsealed cells with hair curler cages so that the first virgin to hatch does not kill the rest. When the virgins hatch each will need its own mating nucleus.
Make a split, its easier and you wont make mistakes. I suggest a walk away split. Basically you split your hive in two and the bees which are quenless will rise a new queen.
I am surely gonna try this trick Sir!!! If I get it right then u r getting some donation from me, don't know when but u can count on that Mr. Fat Bee Man!!! Cheers to ur idea Sir!!!
Prabhat Jung Kunwar me to, im am layed off right now, and i have a queenless nuc, and was looking how i might get me a queen pretty fast, and thanks to the Mr fat bee man, for being a great person and making this video, to help us all out, I now have a way to make my own queens, What a great guy to take the time and help us all out, when i get back to work, he is getting a donation from me, thank you bee man,
@Brian01331 yes get a frame of brood don't even worry about ages they will do the youngest ones after you get several god takes you can look for 3 day old larva
Don, Can you put the frame that you cut, back in the hive? also could I put the cell after they make a Queen cell, in a baby nuc?. Love all of your videos. Keep up the great work for us newbees
For the beginner this video creates ambiguity in our minds as we would consider the video incomplete and not know that we need to put this new frame that we created into a queenless hive and we would not know why the vertical cones would be considered queen cells by the worker bees in the queenless hive> and we would not know that the worker bees would then fill the newly created vertical cells containing eggs and young larva with royal jelly to make a new queen since the hive would be queenless . But creating ambiguity in our minds is the best way to learn something as the human mind hates ambiguity and will work like hell to find the answers and thus remember what it learned much more deeply and longer. Just keep reading the comments and all your questions will eventually be answered if not you probally need to get a mentor or maybe need to enroll in a beginners beekeeping class.
Hey young man; Did I see a lrg container of Planters peanuts in the bee hut? Love the dry roasted ones. We also get a great size empty container! Thanks for all you do. I built and have 2 hives at this point in time. Best; Tom
I thought so... just sounded like in the video you said crushed ones... I know they lay different kind of eggs... does it matter which you use? DO you have a video showing how you place them... I really want to try to do this. I am in Japan and about to get my 1st bees and want to try to raise queens... or is this insane for a newb keeper.
JUST LOVE UR VIDS MAN KEEP IT COMING - NOTE IN OUR RELIGION IF YOU TEACH SOMEONE A GOOD THING AND THAT PERSON TEACH THAT WHAT YOU HAVE TAUGHT TO ANOTHER YOU GET THE SAME REWARD THESE VIDEOS ARE GOLD IF YOU ASK ME THANK YOU DON NICE GUY YOU ARE (^_-)
So if I split a hive and sacrifice part of a frame to make these vertical cells my queen-less bees will make more queen cells and faster than just giving them the same frame without hacking it up? I need to try this! Thanks FBM...
Sorry to keep asking. I think you mean that I make this device and then put it into the parent hive and then I can harvest queen cells in just a few days that I can put into my splits. Right?

I just love how you keep things simple. No expensive tools, no expensive supplies, just use what you have. Keep up the good work!
One note, I used a hot melt glue gun instead of messing with the melted wax and it worked and great.

I've just did exactly the same thing last summer and I'm very satisfied about my queens. Very good quality.
you put it in a queenless hive
Don
Thanks for the information on how to start with comb and make queens.
Great Video Don! I am gradually replacing my plastic foundation in the brood chamber with wax so that I will be able to use this technique on my favorite hives down the road.
You only need one
Thank you for the tip. I am going to make a new bee farm in Sri Lanka. I have previews experience in this field. but now I am planing to do in big scale.
Thanks for posting this video. I'm not a bee keeper, but really enjoy learning about the process.
This is actually really really smart. I just grafted for the first time 3 days ago and i think its going good but this is so much easier. Thanks mr don
I used this method, but I only put 1 egg cell in the new hive, and it worked great. Thank you FatBeeMan!!
So wait, after he pinched those areas, did he stick it back into a hive or something? What did you do?
Another great idea thanks.
I am using your method of using fishing line in X shape to handle the foundation sheet and it turning out just nice and convenient. Thanks.
That is very simple and clever. Thank you I will give it a try. Greetings from the Blue Mountains outside Sydney Australia.
Excellent! Thanks.
Wow so simple. Thanks fat bee man. I will try this when I get more experience with my bees.
Good job
Thanks Don! Great method for us small beeks!
Don this is another of you great videos...really helps all the new bee keepers. Tom
thank you FBM.
Thanks Don, I know the hard work that goes into video production but its worth it for the bees sake. Nice Intro.
Too easy.
Well done FatBeeMan.
Thanks for the upload, and best of luck to you.

Just want to express my gratitude to you Sr and like I always appreciate your help with all this information that is important and simple for us;may God bless your life and family
Great stuff Don....thanks for posting ...an ancient Aussie amateur beek
It worked and it was easy! I've got about 20 cells in 2 different hives. I even used a hive that had a queen and it worked anyway. Xlnt!

Brutal but probably effective.

Gotta love it!
Well done! we is missing is just the result :) please keep it up
Nyce idea
I now think I can do this !
That was great
if you try it it works in a queenless hive or 5 frame nuc.
Don
Don can you show a follow up video with them?
What a great idea!
thanks
Don
Right on Fat!
I will contribute to the cause
You the man thanks...
once you cut cells return the frame to the parent hive.
Don

Give it a go... costs nearly nothing. How are you getting on now?
as long as weather is above 65* and pollen is coming in.
Don
nice tip FBM...
thank you sir..

Don, do I just put this back into the same hive? How long before I cut the queen cells off to put into a split? THANK YOU.
So if I split a hive and sacrifice part of a frame to make these vertical cells my queen-less bees will make more queen cells and faster than just giving them the same frame without hacking it up? I need to try this! Thanks FBM...
You're not hacking anything up. The bees will fix it in no time.
So do I put them in a nook? Do a follow up video this spring. If you can
My question is will this force a swarm with all the cells
just put queen cells in the split.
Don
good and exlante
it might be hard to expand rubber bands without disturbing cells.
Don
@Majorme2 as soon as weather warms up we will do a series on queen rearing but will be in form a downloadable e=book
Don
Sorry to keep asking. I think you mean that I make this device and then put it into the parent hive and then I can harvest queen cells in just a few days that I can put into my splits. Right?
Can a Bee keeper make queens anytime of the year ?
SUPER
Thanks fat Bee Man!
