We lived here from 1998 until 2009, I didn't look like this when we left! Fascinating to watch ( only just started). The Queen mother even slept under that bridge in her Royal carriage many moons ago..... many people look over that bridge.... I might join them to take a peak. Good luck !
In Argentina we have the same case of abandoned railway stations, the difference is that you show us how to restore them and turn them into a beautiful home, I subscribe to this channel.
What a charming place! It has good bones, and the exterior ornamentation will add so much to your final design. Depending on your plans for the garden, it could be quite handy to have an outdoor toilet and shower, for cleaning up after working, or for guests if you have a garden party. You seem to have enough space for a small guest house. I love to watch a restoration project. Makes mine seem less daunting. Congrats on your purchase!
How is it I am just finding your channel now? I am so glad I did. I love that your wonderful daughters were thrilled with your purchase. They seem to love adventure like their parents!
What a wonderful property, you are so lucky and must be so proud. It will be such a beauty when it's restored and showcase all the beautiful features. I discovered your channel this morning - and the bingeing begins.
I'm excited for you. I live in the U.S. and have thought about doing the same thing. Can't wait to see the inside, I bet it's gorgeous! Plenty of garden space.
Just discovered you today. I've been binge watching all your videos. You have a talent for camera imagery and commentary. It will be an interesting journey to follow as you turn this wonderful building into a home. So glad you're doing it!
Start from the top down, rather then the bottom up - other then clean up and weed pulling, which should be started now as an ongoing project. Looks like a worthy find - stay strong, stay positive no matter what difficulties on encounters, because there's an answer readily available for most any task online. Simply ask your phone, which is a whole lot easier then going through the inner-library loan service we used in the 70s and 80s as we trudged through building and rebuilding our old Victorian. All the best and good luck. Cheers!
@@theoldstationrenovation Just a suggestion when showing the walk throughs and there isn't any voice overs maybe just play some soft background music that won't interfere when you add your voice overs. Because I keep thinking there's something wrong with the video.. And then the video will also feel a bit more complete. You're doing a great job
I just subscribed to your channel and really enjoy your YT videos... I'm very pleased that this piece of UK history became your home. It's great to know the bones of the buildings are still in their original state. Restoring the exterior wood beams/trim on the station house won't be difficult to do as others pieces can be copied. Copy's can also be made by the historical photos of the property. The upper private garden, koi pond and stream are such interesting features as well. It's wonderful that the stone bridge is still there that the train line past under, and the station platforms. The outbuilding will be handy for storage, and nice that the washroom is functional without going into the house. It's a big chore renovating, so best wishes to a new lifestyle in your historic train station/home.
@McBuggs - agree with you. The videos are nice; a quick view into the hard work going on. It's also nice to see someone keeping the building and just changing it inside to fit their own needs, but the fact the family are also doing their best to research the history, find all the little bits of the station left on the property......as a history buff it really makes my heart happy.
So much potential, i'm excited for both of you and equally as excited to have stumbled onto this in it's nascent stage! My only lament is that i'm not a neighbor/a friend of yours so that I could take part in the process! Best of luck and i've turned on all my notifications to see how this all develops.
Subbed. Good luck, gonna be a lot of work. Going forward I hop the video length increases (maybe the 20-40 minute area?) and you go into more detail of each step.
Beautiful bones, I wish you luck. Would you share the economics, price paid, budget for renovation? Also, there must be a story behind how you found this gem, please let us know. Thanks.
In the old pictures the woodwork outside is white oe a cream..could be a light white great to match the stones around the windows! If you want a color, i would suggest an old darker green from the victorian age ...but I like the old pics with white or cream!
I have come across some details of the old GWR livery and it was cream and burgundy, in fact you can see these colours on the inside of the top windows with cream at the top and burgundy below. It has been green before, I've seen it in old photos, it was nice enough but a darker green as you suggest would have been much better.
I have just come across your channel and am in awe of this apsolutely fantastic building and its surroundings. I will enjoy following the renovation of your beautiful new home. Good luck with it.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Amazing "bones", I look forward to following you on your renovation journey. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about the original colour of the woodwork, I'd just go with what looks best for me - but that's just like, my opinion, man. You might check the low wall around the canopy area, it looks like the brickwork was rendered - you might be able to expose the original brickwork underneath if it's still in good condition.
Hi, good to have you aboard! The low wall is a later addition, it was built in the 80s and I’d guess that under the render it’s breezeblock. At some point we’ll pull a bit off and have a good look underneath.
You said that it would be great to find out the original color scheme for the station. Might I suggest you find out what Railway Company built it, and what route it was on. Then go on line and look for Railway clubs that are focused on the company. They will have volumes of information on the route and it's associated structures. They might even be of help in locating architectural pieces to bring it back to nearly new condition. Good luck.
Hello. You ask for suggestions. On the bottom floor, I can imagine a large kitchen and dining room on the right side, a large airy living room in the center and a small study and bathroom on the left. Upstairs, a large master bedroom and two good sized bedrooms for your girls. I would add a glass connector to the brick buildings in the rear for additional things such as a home gym, a play room or a guest suite. I would keep the wooden building for a shop and/or garden storage. I think you have a great property there!
The nest could be house martins, and they may come back. They are beautiful birds, and are protected, so I do hope that you are able to leave the old nest, just to see if they do return? xxx

I am an expert on ponds, tropical fish, frogs & snails. The pond is in great condition with all the duckweed floating on top. A really good sign. I wonder if you can get a waterproof go-pro and dunk it in ?

You have not said where in England you are but the steam engine shown is a GWR Prairie tank so the original colour scheme would likely have been chocolate and cream and there are several preserved GWR stations restored to original colour scheme. Kidderminster is a good example. Good luck.

1:10 if the railway was GWR Then I think the woodwork would be cream as back in the early days GWR a used “chocolate and Cream”. In their livery. In latter BR days it would be a Burgundy colour I’m thinking ?

Well you’ve just got a new subscriber! I remember when I was a kid my parents took me to church, afterwards we’d visit peoples houses and one couple, Ian and Grace, had a huge model railway in the attic. I absolutely loved going up there 🚂
2:30 Not at all sure those pillars are original as they don't actually support the roof. Railway companies wouldn't have entertained such shoddiness as bunging in a piece of timber to make a short pillar reach the roof it was supposed to support.
Hi, we think the pillar’s are original but the roof has been changed hence the timber that’s been shoved in. You can see it at 3:30 of the video about the 100 year history. You can still see in the back wall where the supports were for the roof when it spanned the full width I really wish they’d left it alone!
On reflection, the pillars do appear to be original (you show a later photograph with six in a line) but the timber would originally have been ornate ironwork.@@MonicaWolford
