I reread that essay I talked about, and it seems that the Canadian dollar is approximately 80 cents by American standards. Meaning that it's cheaper to work there. I guess Canadians are worried about Americans taking advantage of this.
If Weird Al Yankovic can be on MLP, why don't they let Grey DeLisle, who is also American, have a guest spot? She already does Derpy's voice better than Tabitha, who is extremely talented by the way.

UnknownWanabe Exactly, which is very illegal and is not covered by fair use or parody, since those laws only cover fan made tributes, which holds no water in this case since these puppets are not fan made. Even if you re-colour them into an OC, it's still a DHX owned puppet. Unfortunately, this has led to Hasbro's legal team going around looking for animations that include these puppets, which has led to many animations being taken down, some of them not even including the puppets, because the people searching can't always tell the difference until after the content creator messages them. One of the classic examples of an animation using the leaked DHX puppets is Double Rainboom, which used it for some background ponies. And we all know what happened to that in the end, hence Hasbro not willing to let another episode/movie long animation happen. (I'm seriously afraid for Journey of the Spark right now)
