Part of Albions amazing cup run of 1983 beating the (mighty? maybe back then!!) Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield, this was one of Brighton and Hove Albions greatest ever achievements. WE WANT FALMER!!!!!
Didn't Brighton put out Liverpool the following year as well? I recall they won 2-0 at home around February '84. I think it was a Sunday game. That was the only trophy the Reds didn't win that season...!
I was at the match supporting Brighton. Fantastic game, best I ever saw. Our second goal was scored almost staight from the kick-off after the equaliser. How we survived the last 20 minutes of non-stop pressure and the penalty miss I will never know. Great days.
One great day, supporting Brighton, couldn't get a ticket for the Brighton end, so we all had to stand in the Kop! Great experience, although had to keep quiet!
Bob's last chance to get the elusive FA cup, was in the kop that day and gobsmacked how good Brighton were on the day. Met Phil Neal years later and said did he miss 2 pens but just found the game he did, Aston Villa May 1983, Bob's last home game, technically it was one pen but it got retaken...sorry Phil 🤩 YNWA
I remember that game too, my team Ipswich lost to Norwich in the fifth round and then Brighton beat Norwich in the quarters! Bring on Falmer for the Seagulls, at long last too!!!
im a liverpool fan and the brighton manager, jimmy melia, was a former liverpool player from the 60s so i doubt he was taunting the kop. think he saluted them but maybe one or two reds sadly misunderstood what he was doing. well, at least i hope it was good natured anyway. im a purist too and would love to see more cup shocks like this these days....not at anfield though. old trafford, stamford bridge maybe ha ha.
I was on the kop too as a 10 year old with my older brother who was 16. Amazingly we both live near Brighton now and this week we will see our beloved Liverpool lift no 19.
This game was not on the telly and there wasnt even a proper programme printed for the game,just a couple of pages stapled together. The Kop was heaving this Sunday afternoon but Brighton had a bit of a jinx over us back then. Jimmy Case definitely wanted to put one over his old team and unfortunately did.The winner took a massive deflection though.

Justice done - as usual, a disgraceful decision to give a penalty to Liverpool in front of the Kop.
I was on the Kop and on a normal day we would have scored 6 or 7, it was so one sided. Good on Jimmy Melia though.
