Congratulations on your new track rod end looked a bit of a job😂 If you ever have to do another one it is worth remembering that it is better to hit the joint on the side of its housing while holding a dolly or another hammer on the other side. Hitting the bottom generally will just damage the nut etc. Just a thought hope this helps in future
The vehicle should not have failed for that reason. To quote the MoT Tester's Manual: (g) Steering rack gaiter or ball joint dust cover: (i) damaged or deteriorated: Minor. If a vehicle has only minor defects, it will pass its MOT inspection and a test certificate will be issued. If a vehicle has any major or dangerous defects, it must be failed and a refusal notice issued. Don't waste time struggling to remove a seized split pin, just unscrew the nut. The castlations will shear it off. If you need to reuse the joint, it's easier to drill out the remains off the car.
Not telling you how to suck eggs but, the easy way to remove the track rod end . Put vehicle into lock ( to give you more room ) leave nut on a few threads . Now give the track control arm a good whack , the track rod end will drop off ,honest done it 100 s of times.
Cheers fella, I have to do this on the Wife's 1962 Saloon in the next few days and this is very helpful.
Good luck with it. Glad this has helped. 👍🏼

Hi & thank you for your comment. I did try that, but it wouldn't budge. Just unlucky I guess.
