Brilliant video. Its always a privilege to watch a real craftsman at work. And I think you've explained why Ive had so much trouble with my 3v Aurora ..and F1. Thank you so much for sharing your skills and knowledge with us. God bless you.
That s why I maintain my scandi blades constantly after using them . They are a nightmare to bring back to zero . ..I love using a zero grind for carving and whittling, but for heavy use I like a nice scaniVex . Excellent video brother.
It's a total pain and I feel really open to ridicule in my little shed with so few tools. Have you seen Ben Orfords work shop? OMG he's got a pillar drill for each drill bit he uses.
Looking forward to receiving the knife plan on being out with the youth and adults this weekend again I allowed the youth to use my knife and axe under guidance they were astonished how well good equipment works
I like your technique for sharpening a convex grind. I use a similar technique but I use 8 ounce leather instead of a foam pad. I find I do not have to worry about using too much pressure this way. Good video.
Pearls of wisdom Rob, if your cheap Mora takes an hr. of ya time and you charge by the hr, chuck it, great skill as usual, the one thing us mortals may never master is holding angles whether on power or hand tools, crack that and your in clover, I am still in the weeds but keep trying, thankyou again for fine video
@@RobEvansWoodsman Gee, why so serious, Rob. Lets have a laugh over it. I am OK at putting on a working edge on my blades. Being a chef and all, ya know... No worries, Rob. Keep it up. I appreciate your work.
Great video! Thanks for the peek into the shed. It's always fun to pick up something new in the shop. Appreciated! Love the Moras! Came out nice. Thanks for sharing Stay healthy brother
Perfect timing! I ordered two Bacho Morakniv clippers at the end of 2020 and were supposed to originally be in the mail the same week but factory felt after factory delay, today I got a mail that they're on their way :) They're basically the old Mora clipper with the more pointy sheath and the checkered handle. Only other difference is the stamp, it now has a fishy on it hehe.
@@RobEvansWoodsman they arrived in the mail today. Yeap, just a nice green Mora clipper but different logo. I forgot the size difference hehe. They nearly identical but the companion is nearly a mm thicker (comparing stainless with stainless) in the spine it seems but I don't mind, and slightly smaller in overal size. I do prefer the checkered grips tho, already feels much better. Anyway these are brand-new so the clipper lives on to this day, but just a different brand stamp. (And only in stainless) Edit: and notably, they came with true full scandi's unlike I'm used to with almost all the other Mora's I gotten.
You don't, that set the abrasive sheet was sandwiched between two pieces of wood, the easiest way is to secure it with drawing pins into the ends of the wood .
Hi Rob, great tips on doing up a knife, and that Falkniven is a beauty ,the slight reshaping of the spine made all the difference, even I could see that, and realy good advice on battening the mora,by the way have you any thoughts on the mora eldris, I can't make my mind up whether it would be a user, or just a gimmick? . Thanks for the video, stay safe mate, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart.uk.
Hi Stu, I've had an Eldris and I thought the blade was just too short, it did make an excellent ferrorod striker as the spine was super sharp. I've been keeping my eye open for a second hand orange one.
A computer mouse pad, basically dense foam like you said.i was posting knives for sale on instagram but I now have a list as long as my arm, if you want to go on the list email me robevs73@googlemail.com
@@RobEvansWoodsman I just got off instagram-no cellphone. I'll send an email. Always interested in what's being manufactured or made by small producers. Been looking at a small knife Bark River-City (a drop point about the size of Roselli Bearclaw) seems smaller "craft" knives are not in favor, though the 3" sold knives are still hot.
You are probably right, some folks are scared to sharpen knives , I regularly get asked how to sharpen a convex and I often get told that putting a convex on the stones is ruining the knife, utter crap, it's a friggin knife not a work of art!
You're always going to round that edge with a strop, everyone dose, it's knowing when to put it on the stones before you round it too much and give yourself a lot of work.

You might not enjoy filming in the shed much, but damn was that an informative and amusing half hour. Thanks 👍

I think a tour of the shed with all its gadgets would make a fun video!😉
Mora's are the best budget knives. Worth every penny.
Great one again.... and no car windows....👍👍
Looks better than my garage I have too many tools and equipment from work hobbies and recreation

your not making my knife addiction any easier . lol . great vid as usual . god bless .. Lee
Nice work brother. Hi from Melbourne Australia. Born in Bridgen :)
Good day mate!!
Nice mate, given me some ideas for those 2 frosts clippers I'm tidying up.

I always enjoy you taking the time to take us through the complete sharpening proces. And now I need a H1 :-)
Watch my next video before making that decision.
Great video again . Quick question are you still making knife's and how do find your website thanks
Email me robevs73@googlemail.com
And I'll put you on the waiting list, it's about 8 months wait, I can't guarantee that.
Great vid packed full of tip. 👍
One Mora two Moras.
Fantastic! Really great info!
Great ! Very informative video.
I’m really glad I found your channel Rob! I am learning a lot from you. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Martin, glad you find them interesting and learn a thing or two 👍👍
Thank for very fine video Rob. Good point at 19:25.
I'm glad you watched that long!
Congrats! Your OCD shines through again. I mean that with my utmost respect, Rob. My whole knife collection might show up at your door step one day.
Two at a time!
@@RobEvansWoodsman How about I send you the whole thing and you send me back a couple at a time?
Sorry but I'm not interested in all that sharpening and I don't think you'd want to pay for it anyway.

Hand sharpening isn't fun!
It's boring as hell.

The old handles are better, like everything in life they don't necessarily improve things.

Nice one Rob, some great tips & tricks there!
Cheers Pete.
True grit! Cheers
Great video Rob... I’m a little disappointed in you though... No Tea ?😂... Keep the great videos coming... ATB👍
Flask of coffee in the shed!
Brilliant video! I was going to ask you how to sharpen a convex grind because I’ve just brought the trail master in san mai 3 👍🏼
Excellent choice of large knife. A strop or polishing wheel will be enough for a while.
@@RobEvansWoodsman Thank you mate one of your videos swayed my decision 👍🏼
Falknieven Puukko now, looks good and cant beat a convex, strongest geometry by far.
Very informative video. Curious to see if the laminated Fallkniven spine holds up to ferro rod use.
thank you very much for the detailed explanation. I have another question, how do you attach the sandpaper to the mouse pad
You don't, that set the abrasive sheet was sandwiched between two pieces of wood, the easiest way is to secure it with drawing pins into the ends of the wood .

i love your accent.
where are you from? Russia or Sweden or something? your English is almost as good as any American 👍
I'm from Wales in the UK.
Supp Rob, i have a question, do i really need micro mesh for convex edges? or am i good to go with a sand paper and mouse pad techniq. Thanks!
Wet and dry paper is fine mate, it just won't last as long.
What do you mean by mouse pad? Im the states there's dense foam backed w/d sandpaper. I would think using that as a backing would work.
BTW Where do you sell your knives?

I personally think Scandi grinds are the hardest to grind to sharpen and convex being the easiest
You are probably right, some folks are scared to sharpen knives , I regularly get asked how to sharpen a convex and I often get told that putting a convex on the stones is ruining the knife, utter crap, it's a friggin knife not a work of art!
I agree I've always sharpened convex on stones and I've always had really good results

I'm Welsh
and at the zero scandi u recommend hard strop? doesnt it round the edge too?
You're always going to round that edge with a strop, everyone dose, it's knowing when to put it on the stones before you round it too much and give yourself a lot of work.
@@RobEvansWoodsman ok thx. I just heard that some guys just light strop a scandi and only 2-3 strops.. there is a lot of information out there
@xencorex1713 I think you should do what's right for you, I don't think 3 light strops will do much.
🙏🙏✌✌👍👍
I have to say. Why regrind the H1. Your basically turning it into an F1
Nothing like it.
@@RobEvansWoodsman. I realized that after you were done grinding it. Where the F1 has a drop point the reground H1 had a more pronounced belly.
I only took 1-2mm off the end to flatten it and make a sharp spine, it's definitely not like a F1 and a world away from the F1 pro.
