  • After the announcement of the escape of Thabo Bester from the Mangaung Correctional Centre, Eyewitness News reporters Orrin Singh and Katlego Jiyane went out and located his mother for an exclusive interview. Bester's mother, Maria Mabaso, on Wednesday revealed that she had been in a state of depression following the news that her son is one of South Africa’s most wanted. Mabaso said that the last time she saw her son, who is her eldest of four children, was when he was convicted of fraud in Wynberg in 2004.

The amount of bad things that Thabo did, makes me to highly wonder what sort of trauma he may have faced as a child. She left him at the age of 1 and never saw him again until he was being arrested. This boy did alot of mess and I do not condone it, but this boy has gone through alot of trauma. Imagine now him growing up being told that he is a child from rape, he ends up in the streets at an early age::: there is alot he faced as a child in the streets. Generational curses are the worst thing one could be born in, his father raped her and and only one could imagine what he was capable of and now the child. SHU as blacks there's so much to learn of mental health and generational curse.

      @noncebasokupha8716 ปีที่แล้ว

Maybe he was told he was conceived from rape and that made him bitter. But he should rather be bitter towards men , not women. Maybe his bitterness towards women was probed by the fact that her mother abandoned him and the granny because of the sour relationship between her and her daughter made her to always remind him that he is a product of rape. Or maybe rape is hereditary, that cannot be an excuse .

Thabo is a broken human being since he was born and these crimes that he is doing proves that, even prison is not going to fix him. He needs a long term therapy in fact the whole family needs that. by the look of things i don't see Thabo going back to his family ,its been a long time since he hasn't visited them. looking at the house you could tell that even the money he was making thru crime , he wasn't supporting his family. Looking deep,it's a court case again most of family! Mother victim of Rap,son committing raps.....!!!which pychological transfer Thabo received from the mother when he was still an unborn baby??She hate how she got the child, she rejected that pregnancy from day one she realised she was pregnant! The grand mother tried to rescue the child but the damage was already done!the transformation was already finalised! The child inside is suffering from all that rejection then without knowing the father, he decided psychically to punish the society who left him without love, any one became his potential victim, the women must pay then he decided to punish all the mother material by rapping them and the woman Dr is so deep a manipulated victim, the man inside Bester is Best,creative..,able to anticipate,to create business and to generate money even in impossible conditions, his inside man can manipulate, can use and reject! This guy made millions from jails then most of us free outside....! This guy convinced a dr to be in love with him???Not even sure ? Bester is Best at what he can be!Maybe he found a mother in the Dr, the mother he never had all his life! Ignoring the psycho side of this case, this court will fail to save an jailed Soul! Wow! The trauma that people carry. And we say, "Oh, many people have been traumatized, but they don't go around killing." True, but people are not built the same. We don't carry the same capacity to to handle problems, otherwise we should be saying depressed people shouldn't be depressed and shouldn't get mental breakdowns because they are not the only ones having a hard time in life. We need to really be responsible as people, especially towards children, because you never know what a kind word can do to help a child growing in difficult circumstances. We must stop the adoption of these nasty western tendencies and remember that it takes a village. If you can give your neighbor food, do it. If you can afford to buy extra December clothes, do it for that neighbors child who doesn't have and stop wanting to live a life of outshining people. Because tomorrow the child grows to abuse our daughters, rob people and takes brown envelopes in exchange for this whole country then we wanna cry. But we neglected to help the child when they were young cause we were minding our own business.
It's very sad learning that that handsome young man who's throwing his life away is a result of rape. His family probably didn't have the right tools and support to deal with that trauma. You can imagine what it's then like for the child as well.
If children with privilege struggle with deadbeat fathers or absent fathers, how much more one who always must learn that they are a rape case and grow up maybe being reminded at home. Now, a child from rape grew to repeat the sins of his father. Tragic!
Maybe cases like these should be a reminder that we need to be kinder to people in our communities and not judge them. Let our words "give grace to those that hear them." We could save a life through just a word of affirmation, correction, or encouragement said to a child or mother/father going through a hard time or making bad choices earlier on in life.
This comment by no means attempts to absolved Thabo. He must face the consequences of his actions. But we should weep when we see so many lives wasted as a result of injustice upon injustice and consequent bad choices.

Maybe she did neglect her but the grandmother took good care of the young Thabo.
If it was neglect I wouldn’t blame her @ all. The boy represented her humiliation -that traumatic *ape experience. She had 2 bear the shame of single motherhood 4rm a nameless male. Nine months of public scrutiny. Those days teenage pregnancy was frowned upon. She never got therapy 2 deal with her trauma.
She needed 2 4get & this boy was a constant reminder of her violation & shattered dreams. If she had a boyfriend -that rejection. No wonder she doesn’t have in4 abt his upbringing- her efforts 2 move on with life.
Despite the not being there physically- inimba- that cord-that connection never died away hence she had 2 go find his corpse & bury him- possibly an attempt 2 bury the decade long shame as well & maybe reclaim her innocence taken forcefully.
Struggles women encounter r rarely expressed.

Yes our fathers have put our mothers through unexplainable pain but nothing takes away the fact that as children we expect some level of love and protection from our mothers no matter how broken they may be. And where a mother has failed, acknowledging her part helps in the healing of the child. Thabo has raised himself, he needed to survive and proove that he CAN BE SOMEBODY despite all the rejection. I see myself in his life, only I didn't turn to crime but my social skills were strongly malnourished.

It doesnt even IMPACT on them the same. Some accept the situation as it presents itself to them, and some dont accept it. THAT IS WHY WE REACT DIFFENTLY IN RESPONSE TO DIFFERENT SITUATION. I don't understand why? Why? you if can't raise one child, why you go and make another 3? Condoms are free.. now all society pays for this woman stupidity...
You can't afford kids, use condoms!!

I feel sorry for the mom. She was raped and he was abandoned but people should get this right. It can only explain his behaviour but it is never an excuse. Many people have the same childhood experiences but they never committed crimes.

I couldn't understand what happened to Thabo after his grandmother died? They should have allowed the mother to speak in her native tongue (and just added sub-titles). Some of the story was 'lost' because of this.

I don't blame Thabo or the Mother, I blame the system that created the type of society we became. there's so many Thabo bester's out there because of the system. This is the tip of the iceberg many are going to follow him to prison still because of the system. We have capability of creating the type of society we want Good or Bad. 💔💔

Their should be an outcry for what is happening to children in our communities...what is being done to children everywhere is horrible! This is a prove of how our kiddies(not all) turn out if no one cares...causing pain is all he knows😢(not a good enough excuse though)It takes a village to raise a child( no truer words have ever been spoken!
