I was watching games in Jordan's first year and even his defense was pretty terrible. I wouldn't call his defense a lost cause. It's pretty rare for a really young guy to get his defense together this early. Especially since he's two years away from HS.
I agree with all of this, but I also don't see the effort on the glass either from him, specifically the defensive rebounds. He attacks the ball on his own misses and gets a ton of easy put backs there but that is the only situation where I see true rebounding effort. His size and strength alone should get him double digit rebounds every night just with proper box out and fundamentals.
I agree with Simmons that Zion doesn’t seem as explosive. Maybe it’s in comparison to more great athletes on the floor than at college. IDK...But he has managed to still be pretty good in the NBA. He’s just scratching the surface though. His rebound numbers are pitiful. Grabbing a just a few defensive rebounds would make him a better defender. That’s why you needed Steven Adams on this team.
I think Z's still not fully healthy. He never struck me as a guy who takes plays off. (Same as with Kawhi in San Antonio... when a known hard worker starts moving slowly, something's wrong.)

It's actually a very good hire. This team needed and wanted a coach that would push them. Gentry was a players coach. SVG is a defensive coach and they are responding to him but they don't have the right players for his philosophy. Just wait till next yr when they make more moves. This is his first year. He's inheriting a team he really has no say in.
The 🐘 in the room. BI needs to step up. Put him at 1 or 2 and create the chemistry LJ & AD have. Ball can't handle the responsibility they're placing on him.
Perhaps, due to earlier injuries yet, still a scoring leader. Someone advised him to not sacrifice his body every single game to extend his career - his mentor MJ.
If Zion were a defensive end or a cornerback, nobody would be worried about his weight and body type. He just needs to get healthy and get in more NBA reps.
Have two questions about the Pelicans organization first before anything! 1. Are we forsure the New Orleans organization is trying to spend the required money it takes to compete at a high level in the NBA? 2. Do the Pelicans believe that Zion and/or Brandon Ingram can be a franchise cornerstones?
Zion definitely less explosive than he used to be at Duke. He used to be more nimble and had more lateral quickness and more vertical. He is still stupid athletic of course but compared to himself at Duke and before, not at the same level. His conditioning is also not quite it used to be.
Yeah after listening to the discussion a little, who knows but one thing I want to note is the idea that Zion can’t be a dynamic defender is out the window after less than 50 career games is maybe an over reaction. The idea that Ingram can’t be a better defender is a little less premature since this is his 4th season. But Draymond is a far different player, but was Draymond ready to play nba basketball at 20yrs old? Hell I think it took 3 or 4 years after he got drafted for Draymond to play regularly in the nba.

He has the skill and talent to be a top dawg but I don't think that his body will be able to handle it
If Bill is right and BI isn't on this team long term. How long till the Pelicans decide this and if sooner than later, could a team like golden state be a good landing spot. I see the perfect center being a big like Wiseman. BI being golden states real "replacement" for KD and perfect in-between of a legit 2nd scoring option for Steph allowing Klay to come back slowly as the 3rd and bridge from win now and later. Maybe a Wiggins, Wiseman, and 1st type package.
Yeah Ingram admitted in the post game presser he didn't know how to play defense with the squad that was on the floor...meanwhile, the pels let mason plumlee score a triple-double..mason plumlee!! Come on, man
The pieces around BI and Zion aren’t the problem. The stuff about spacing is overrated. This team can score enough on most nights. Will they defend enough is the question. The discussion about teams putting the Pelicans in defensive rotations is the biggest truth here. It’s been true for most of the season. During the recent win streak they were better. Remember Alonzo rotating to challenge Myles Turner at the rim vs Indiana? Adams, Alonzo & Bledsoe are good individual defenders. Zion and BI need to close the gap on that end. They have opponents at the 3/4 where they have to compete better defensively. Collectively, the Pelicans need to know personnel when they are in rotations. Against Chicago they were rotating off Zach Lavine. He didn’t miss a 3 in the 1st half and went for almost 50.
@@vezzy_3221 True... as a Bulls fan, the season Lavine is having this year would make me hesitate on almost any trade. Who else has a bunch of shooters and could use a playmaking big? I'd love to see Simmons in the pick and roll with Trae Young... or on the Spurs with their shooting coaches.
Warriors fan here. No thanks. I’d love Ingram, but the Warriors organization loves both Curry/Klay as players and men. They want to keep the Splash Brothers together long-term. I’d give you Oubre or Wiggins plus the Minny pick, but you probably say no.
No offense but thats honestly a terrible trade for the Pels. Klay is older and coming off a bad injury while the pick is such a unknown because of how the lottery works We could easily end up trading a 23 year old future superstar for a potentially washed up/expensive vet and a pick that could fall outside the top 5 Honestly I dont see us trading Ingram anytime soon. But even if we did it would have to be for an absolute superstar (like a top 3 guy) who's not too old still because the rest of the team is super young
The fact of the matter is with Zion and Ingrams ability to pass and their inside out games, they could use guards that shoot, and Lonzo and Bledsoe arent exactly that
@@sablesoul great run. But I'm tired of seeing these small sample sizes with Lonzo. Let's see it throughout the season first. If he was gonna be cheaper I wouldnt mind keeping him but he might want too much for someone as inconsistent as him. Unless he proves it this year.

All Zo needs is for the defense to respect his shot. J. Kidd, Draymond, Rondo type numbers. 'Cause then he'll slice you up with his passing. I want him at like 14 ppg and 12 assists, with Ingram and Zion taking the scoring load.

Zion strikes me as a lazy player. He didn't put any effort into losing weight to gain lateral quickness and he is basically immobile offensively when he can't cut to the rim to a dunk, the defense might come around one day but if he doesn't turn it up a couple notches mentally, he will be another Blake Grififn in short-term

Finally someone said it. Ingram x Zion not a good fit
The athletic rookie guarding the all star player never works but they always try it
I can't believe Bill would suggest that Sam Cassell would abduct Giannis.
Perhaps, due to earlier injuries yet, still a scoring leader. Someone advised him to not sacrifice his body every single game to extend his career - his mentor MJ.
From the description Brandon Ingram sounds like a new Harrison Barnes
Love how JJ Redick’s dream team gets a mention at the start of this video. 😂 Come on Pat Riley let him come for the vet minimum lol
Zion is 280~ pounds. Why would he ever not go through people? Definitely saves him energy from jumping over people and not play defense
Hell I think it took 3 or 4 years after he got drafted for Draymond to play regularly in the nba.
gave up 143 tonight he called it 😂
as a thunder fan ....bill can’t watch shai and say he’s a guy you can just throw in a trade 😂😂....the guy is legit one of the best young guards in the league
Zion is Barkley++; I kinda mean that in a good and bad way. I agree though about their D and rotation; Lonzo is a big question mark.
GREAT comparison brother
lonzo is their best defender but offensive i don’t think he fits with them
@@countblobula Zion's still really young (Barkley did 3 years at Auburn) - I have to believe he has some injury re his explosivness. They are both very entertaining! I agree that Barkley had some ridiculous skills.
Not many of us left on Lonzo Island, but remember he's only a year out from completely retooling his shot. Still plays D, still grabs rebounds, still has that court vision.
Lakers fan here. BI is an ISO player and that's all he is, and he tends to make bad decisions at the wrong time. He's not clutch, but he thinks he is.
wow kevin mchale looks so young in this one
Zion... next generation Blake Griffin.
how, he's already better than blake was at this point? unless you're talking about 2018-19 blake, but they don't play alike.
His upside is non existent until he loses weight. I hate to sound like a hater but it is what it is. How often do you even see him throw down a crazy dunk like he did before??
I don’t think his upside is about crazy dunks
@@EmacMac-ph2zd I'm referring to his athleticism already going down brother. That's what I meant by that reference. Without his athleticism getting BETTER, how can we expect a guy who also doesn't shoot threes to have an upside? I love the kid and I hope I am completely wrong. He has the skill and talent to be a top dawg but I don't think that his body will be able to handle it
@@BingeworthyContent I know
@@BingeworthyContent I just think his game can mature far past just athleticism and a jump shot.
Come on, man
Ayyyy finally Patrick Williams talk.
On a real note we need to trade for a co-star for Lavine.
@@isaiahhollingsworth372 You dont see White and Markkanen as co-stars if they keep developing?
@@silewis9396 I think they both can be nice, I just think it’s time to try to win now with as good as Lavine’s been playing.
heat and pelicans need to do some trade talks
Who gets a jumper first and wrecks the league? Zion, Ben Simmons, Lonzo, Bam, or Giannis?
Ha or LaMelo?
Those Miami unis are 🔥🔥🔥. Bill is getting old
This podcast should be retitled "Lu Dort"
This guy is Matt Barnes reincarnated
I hate this comparsion between LBJ and ben simmons. Ben Simmons is a slightly more athletic Draymond. Thats more better comparsion
Free Ben Simmons! I'd love to see him in a Warriors-type offense playing the Draymond position.
Ooh... maybe I'm crazy but...Simmons to the Bulls for Zach Lavine?
Zach lavine is a stud not sure if they would do it
@@vezzy_3221 True... as a Bulls fan, the season Lavine is having this year would make me hesitate on almost any trade. Who else has a bunch of shooters and could use a playmaking big? I'd love to see Simmons in the pick and roll with Trae Young... or on the Spurs with their shooting coaches.
@@vezzy_3221 Simmons would be fun on the Heat too but they already have Bam.
Then he goes 14/15 and a career high the same day lol
Wasn't Zion at some point the future 5 times DPOY?
The defence in front of Adams has been terrible. Rotations and perimeter defence is trash. Adams is constantly trying to cover everyone else.
They’re kind of the anti-Utah jazz. They’re roughly the same talent wise, but the construction and lineup fit makes absolutely no sense
Brandon Ingram for klay and the twolves pick.
Klay is older and coming off a bad injury while the pick is such a unknown because of how the lottery works
We could easily end up trading a 23 year old future superstar for a potentially washed up/expensive vet and a pick that could fall outside the top 5
Honestly I dont see us trading Ingram anytime soon. But even if we did it would have to be for an absolute superstar (like a top 3 guy) who's not too old still because the rest of the team is super young
Warriors aren't giving up Klay
@@RiloXRi ik but it would be kool
@@jennycraigadventures3314 Yeah Warriors fans would riot if they traded Klay. He'll be back scoring 40 on 14 shots in no time.
Starting 5 - BI, Zion, Alexander, Jaxson, Adams.
Van is Blind.
Raptors beat the Nets and the Bucks twice and Philly and they are still invisible.
The fact of the matter is with Zion and Ingrams ability to pass and their inside out games, they could use guards that shoot, and Lonzo and Bledsoe arent exactly that
In the last 5 games since his return off resting an injury, Lonzo has 53.8% 3pt shooting at 7.6 3pt attempts a game
@@sablesoul great run. But I'm tired of seeing these small sample sizes with Lonzo. Let's see it throughout the season first. If he was gonna be cheaper I wouldnt mind keeping him but he might want too much for someone as inconsistent as him. Unless he proves it this year.
@@whitewolf288 I mean be shot 38% from 3 last year, I think he can be a sustainable good shooter for a season
@@trvspvrk 37% and that was his best shooting season in 4 years. He's at that this year. On mostly wide open shots. His overall performance just needs to stay consistent. Idk if I'm willing to pay a spot up shooter that shoots 37% 20 mil a year. He just needs to accept a 4/50 mil deal and we'll be good to go.
All Zo needs is for the defense to respect his shot. J. Kidd, Draymond, Rondo type numbers. 'Cause then he'll slice you up with his passing. I want him at like 14 ppg and 12 assists, with Ingram and Zion taking the scoring load.
As a pels fan Id like to remind u zion is 40 games in and ownership/ management has been trash since they were the hornets. Getting a real staff was the first step not making the playoffs. That said Im happy but there is a long way to go. This is the franchise that drafted and traded Kobe.
Ingram is only 23 and already very good, no way can you say he’s a good stats bad team type of player 🤦🏾♂️ the disrespect is real
He's really developed his game! Respect where it's due. But it's hard playing alongside a score-first player when you're also a sick scorer. Maybe ideally BI and Zion would both be cutting all over the place and Zo would distribute for both of them? If only people had to respect Lonzo's shot. (sigh.)
...and now I look at Zo's stats from 3 and he's taking 7 a game while making 37%. Tell me why he's a liability again?
Brandon Ingram is not a 4, how are we still discussing this?
The Suns will be a scrappy team who goes down in the first or second round when it comes to the playoffs like pretty much every other Chris Paul team.
The uniforms are just lousy across the board.
Aw, I think the Pelicans' unis are good!
SVG is the issue, he’s a joke! Bad leadership, they have good players... they don’t get out and run, bad rotations and five guys grabbing the ball up
Did Bill just say the colored guy ....7:13. LOL
Same bill Simmons that said the Lakers gave up a all time bounty to get AD. 🤣🤣🤣 Drafts don't mean and never will mean shit if u trying to get a superstar. How many times will we have to see this play out to get it thru your thick skulls.
Ingram for zach straight up, who says no?
Lonzo ,Zach, a defensive 3, zion ,and a christian wood or a Porzingis kinda 5
2:23 *“De’Aaron Foxy”*
He was Man vs Boys @ Duke. He's now a very athletic young man vs majority of your words -COLORED- experienced MEN
They clearly don’t watch enough games.
This dude looks like my pizza guy
Ingram a straight 4?? NO BRUH lol
Celts are first round fodder. If...they make the playoffs.
They are undersized, bad on defense, not good enough from 3. .500 team at best
Bill man ingram at the 4 bad take u know basketball better than that
The best trade for the Pels is Ingram for Lavine
Zion needs to lose weight if he wants to play better defense.
Lmao I disagree I think Pelicans have the wrong coach.. no one in the NBA plays defense 😴
The Colored Guy? Really? To the older gentleman on the left, its okay to say Black. It's 2021. 😂
My dude... 🤦♂️ He said the color guy, referring to the color commentator. He's talking about the guys that call the game. One is play-by-play and one is color commentator.
@@Hy-BridAbroad quick question? The announcer he's referring to, is he Black?
@@LoungeMedia Yes, I believe their color commentator is former NBA player Antonio Daniels.
@@Hy-BridAbroad ok
Why do u keep talking about okc trading away Shai or dort? It makes zero sense. Trade away horford, hill, jackson, or muscala. Not the young core. Keep them playing or resting.
Talk about Zion like he too overweight. Look at his stats coming into second year. Best stats out of all the greats at the same time of their careers.
Pelicans are better with ja
The time to buy Thunder stock is nowww ⚡
Trade ingram for Ben simmons
We have to admit, Zion’s ceiling is low and how long can he go playing like he plays.
