Lord Jamar on Mase vs. Charlamagne Beef & 50 Cent's Career

  • www.vladtv.com - Lord Jamar sat down with VladTV and shared his opinion on Mase and Charlamagne's confrontation in Miami, the "Welcome Back" rapper's less-than-packed shows and 50 Cent's popularity now compared to his 2003 debut.
Jamar says that Mase's lack of an audience for his recent show overseas may have been karma for approaching Charlamagne in an inappropriate manner. It could also be because he abandoned his Hip-Hop following and simply lost the majority of his fans.
When 50 Cent is brought up, Jamar says he remembers when 50 was at the top of his game in 2003, but says the music he's making now simply doesn't connect with people the way the hits from his debut album did.
    Check out the clip above.

Though i don't really value Charlemagne Tha Koon's opinions.
Mase is irrelevant and his abandoning Hip-Hop and thinking
he can just come back and think that he will still have fans is
dumb. I remember how hot 50 Cent was back in 2003,
it was like 50Mania, everybody tried be like 50 and dress
like 50. But like every MC they have their run and eventually fall off,
50 knew he wasn't able to keep it up, so he branched out to acting
    and all the other stuff.

Wtf is vlad talking about? If 50 would've kept rapping he wouldn't have half the money he has today. Today even the biggest rappers barely go platinum so I'm pretty sure 50 is glad he chose to pursue movies, endorsements etc over sticking just to the music. For what? So he could put out hot shit that no one buys? (Although I think he already reached his peak and he'll never be able to put out hits back to back like he did back in 03, 04.) Ppl dnt buy music like they used to. Rappers dnt go triple platinum like they used to.
Vlad trippin...50 is smart as hell. He's an excellent businessman and up and coming artists should take notes from him. He was extremely clever in how he took full advantage of the wave he had and fully capitalized off his popularity by taking advantage of every opportunity that came his way. 50 couldn't do a g unit line and it sell like it did back then (esp those ugly ass sneakers😂) he had to do it then while he was still hot. Moments are everything and he was smart enough to strike while the iron was hot. And his jay z example is off too cuz yea he kept rapping (after retiring😕) but his music isn't even half as good as it used to be. And mase been done...jesus himself couldn't revive that nigga's career.

Being real or pretending to be a pastor isnt the problem. Mase only had one hot album over 15yrs ago. Thats the problem. It was a classic but if u aint from tha era u dont care. U need multiple hot albums AT LEAST 2. of all his hits came off the one album and puffys. Plus even with his eric bellinger song out today. Hes still not relevant right now. Fat Joe has multiple hits across multiple albums for over 15yrs (also helps hes connected to puns music) but as much as I like mase and harlem world. He was only hot for a VERY short amount of time. Thats why no1 showed up.

Mr. J1S The massacre wasn't as big as GRODT, but it was still a huge success. 50 started falling off after that, when he made that promise to retire if he didn't outsell Kanye and Kanye blew him out of the water. That's when it was over to me, that and when he tried beefing with everybody for no reason and people caught wind of what he was doing. I'm not the biggest Ross fan, but he damn sure got the better of that deal and he makes better music.

50 cent was the most and is still the most electrifying artist of this decade. Even if it was for just a year or so. As Vlad said people wanted to be him. The Problem was IMO his inability to create a real movement. He had all this energy and electricity but couldn't use it to push his people like a 2pac. He couldn't convert the energy because he was to busy being a Corporate Hollywood Slut. He pumped all his credibility into eminem which is the reason em hunted him down and signed him. The Energy. He was just a battery for something that had absolutely nothing to do with him. Shout out to Dre and Jimmy Ivine. Particularly Jimmy for always knowing to do with these types.

Everyone in the G-Unit group(Banks, Buck and Yayo) all released solo albums that went Gold or Platinum. Game went platinum. All of this was because of the energy created by Get Rich or Die Trying. Biggest of all time in their eras:
    92-96: Pac & Biggie
    97-00: DMX
    00-02: Eminem and Nelly
03-07: 50 Cent (Which was prolly the biggest a rapper has ever been in terms of fame)
08-10: Wayne (even though he's garbage)
    11-present: Drake
This is fame and relevance level, not who I thought was the best. 50 Cent took it farther than any rapper ever took it before in terms of fame but he's also partly responsible for making rap mainstream and turning it into a mix of rap and dance/pop with his later shit.

Mase should thank Charlamange. Mase has always been just ok. He was catchy and had that Bay Boy gloss. After Harlem World, that was it for me. People just don't like Mase goin' in and out of righteousness. AND, let's not forget these long breaks between albums. Fans get sick and tired of waiting around while you get it together. Sure, the artist needs to enjoy life in order to come back and have something to say, but DAMN! Ya'll be takin' these long ass breaks and people move on. Also, the ARTIST has become so arrogant to were they think the fans just have to like whatever they put out. I remember being in Tower or Virgin at the listening station and leaving my favorite artist's cd right on the shelf. Mase's problem is that he thinks you just have to like whatever he does because of the Harlem World success. Let me be the first to say, that little bullsquat after Harlem World was terrible and nobody cares. Mase's new "music" is terrible, default and corny. I want him cancelled for good. Master P definitely wasn't the best rapper, but he sure did market the hell out of No Limit. As far as 50 goes, his music dried up years ago. I bought his first album because it was on sale and off the strength of In Da Club. Dre said you're gonna fall off, but you never know when. That's the scary part.

50's music didn't stop connecting because of his acting, headphones, or any of that. He stopped connecting simply because he got too big too fast.
His core audiance was the mixtape/street shit crowd and they helped create a huge buzz for him. When he capatilized on the buzz by signing with Interscope, he had to compromise the brand to meet their expectations, so he turned the gangsta shit almost cartoonish.
It worked for the first album because he was poppin and had the streets and pop audiences checkin for him. By the second album, the streets had moved on because he was now a mainstream pop rapper and his stories weren't believable anymore.
Once a street atist disconnects from their core, the mainstream public will soon lose interest as well because the "scary/dangerous" factor is now gone.

Not that I'm a 50 cent the rapper fan. I'm an admirer of his business sense and having the foresight to branch out from rap music. Why vlad is harping on the fact that he didn't stick with music.
If you follow any 50 cent contributions other than music is clear that he is a multi talented dude. Vlad just needs to face the fact that 50 cent was destined to be more than just a thug rapper . And it is always those one trick ponies who hate on people who try to evolve.

Why does everyone keep talking about Jay-z being the biggest rapper in the early 2000s Eminem and Nelly were going diamond Jay-z never really sold as much as them. Overall yes, because he dropped MADD albums, and he dropped albums every year until he retired. Not to mention Collabos. So in totals Jay-Z sold a lot of records.

Oh, and don't forget, Fif caught a lot of hate and backlash too. I remember 106 and park yelling 50 is trash during the whole Kanye thing. Everyone in hip hop gets there run, Fif was smart to invest in what he did. And never compare him to Drake. It's like comparing Kobe and D wade or something, not even close.

There was an interview that Chris Rock did on Sway In The Morning. He made an interesting point when he said "you can't be great on the side". That's what happens with some of the rappers who are great but loose they're mojo. It's because the focus is lost in the midst of other ventures that's being juggled along with music. You can't be a great actor while recording an album or the other way around. One is going to go lacking which hurts it and your ability to stay on top. Jay Z shows that when it is time for an album then his exclusive attention is devoted to that project and nothing else. Justin Timberlake showed that also when he took 7 years away from music to concentrate on acting. Once he caught that urge or inspiration for music he came back fully devoted to it and out came the 20/20 Experience which was a DOPE album and it went Platinum.
