      I have questions Joe - 80hz on tiny 4" concentric drivers? I find that hard to believe.
      And 24hz on an 8" downfiring woofer? That makes absolutely no sense from the size of the woofer alone.
      And how high before distortion? 88db? Cant hit above 90db without distortion. Am I incorrect?

    • @joentell
      @joentell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Audiomainia2310 Their measurements and my measurements say about the same thing. They do what they claim. What's important to understand is that bass from small enclosures is possible with the caveat that sensitivity and max output capabilities will be lower. Consider for a second that a 0.25" driver in an earbud can play down to 5hz in some cases. That's why I keep repeating that room size and distance from the speakers are necessary considerations. The closer you are, the smaller the speaker can be while producing deep bass, while playing loud enough without audible distortion.

Examples are the BenQ V7050i UST projector and the EliteProAV drop down screen. The Syng Cell Alphas were also cool. All of those were pretty expensive though. Some other affordable speakers I've reviewed this year that I really liked are the Kali Audio LP-6 v2 and the Monolith Encore series.

    What's also great about these is that if you want to get into atmos, they give you the option of getting it later, and actually separating the height channels so you can physically put them above you. If your receiver supports 7.1/2 and atmos, then you can just get those channels later.

    Hey J n T, love your content….and would appreciate your opinion…..I run a fairly high end 7.4.4 setup, and was using the Atmos setup with 4 overhead ceiling speakers ,,,,I want to try to convert to an Auro 3d setup, moving to 2 from heights instead and keep my 2 rear overheads. Would you recommend these monolith cubes as the front left and right height speakers ? I want something very small and almost invisible in the top corner of my theatre near wall/ceiling. Above my front towers ( goldenear triton 1) I just like the small cube look and given it’s only from heights, would these be ok, or materially detract from a good system ? Thanks very much. @joentell I'm looking to do a 5.1.4 system with these speakers in a very small room for mostly multi channel (Atmos) music. Being they are all 4 ohm I'm worried that an A/V receiver might struggle with this. Seeing that even the top Yamaha receivers are only 4 ohm capable for the front R and L speakers I contacted them and they verified they would not recommend any of their receivers for this set up. Do you think I'd be safe with any other receiver for this? Thanks!

  • @DizzyVizzle

    These are 4 ohm so you can't use a cheap 5.1 receiver. The denon 760h you recommend doesn't support/can't safely power these. It only supports up to 6 ohm speakers.

    • @joentell

      @joentell  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DizzyVizzle I hear you. If you look on their website, it shows where the lowest points of the impedance are. It's cool they did that. The lowest point is around 1khz. The AVR will let you know if it doesn't like it. It will likely go into protect mode. I've tried them with some of the cheapest amps I could find on Amazon, and they worked. I cranked them up too.
      I think where low impedance becomes more of an issue is when it's even lower in the bass frequencies, where it also demands more current from the amp. 40hz is significantly more demanding than 80hz. I'm sure you know.

  • @nailujjm
    @nailujjm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you recommend this sub for desktop use with a pair studio monitors? I've been interested in the OSD ss8, which I think you showed reached 20ish hz with dsp and has a bit more wattage, not to mention cheaper.

    • @joentell
      @joentell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This sub has more output than the SS8. The enclosure seems to have more internal volume. It's well thought-out. The parts themselves probably are lower cost, but the smart design makes up for it. I'm sure the curved cabinet also helps with resonance and standing waves. You really have to push the OSD really far with DSP whereas this can do 24hz with the flip of a switch. It's no match for something like an SVS SB1000, or even Monolith's own THX 10 sub which can get down below 20hz.

    You started the video saying that Monolith is sponsoring this video and then you put this speaker set in areas above alot of other speaker categories on your list and what shows is the money Monolith is paying you to do so. It's so obvious bro. This being used in a desktop setup doesn't even make sense bro. Where is the center channel speaker going to be placed?. Desktop setups are 2.0 channel and 2.1 channel only. Also, this 8" 150w subwoofer absolutely does not beat out the trivoce 12"s with a 800w amplifier. Science just doesn't allow it. It's absolutely impossible. Your video has been taken over by monolith and everyone needs to be careful. Hopefully going forward your videos aren't the same or you'll be another compremised content creator.

      @Tech4Life I'm glad you said that. I disclose all of my business relationships so that you can make that determination for yourself. If you feel that may bias me in one way or another, I have to respect your decision. I take the good with the bad. Some people trust me, and some never will. I can say that I'm happy to recommend another brand's product over this one if their product is superior and offers a better value proposition. All I'm saying is this particular model is the best value proposition of the ones I've tried. There might be a better one out there, but I haven't tried it yet. I did try this in more than one location. I tried it in my home theater where I'm 11ft+ away from the speakers, and here at my desk where I'm at arm's length. The "center" speaker does fit under my monitor, since it's one that slides up to make it taller. I get that not everyone can do that. They can also place it above maybe mounted on a wall, but I can't since I have a standing desk.
      My friend also has these setup in a small studio space, so I think it's reasonable to use them at a desk. 5.1 computer systems were pretty popular back in the day, so it's not a new concept.
      Also, I do objective measurements if that's of any interest to you. I measured and reviewed the Trevoce 12 and the the Trevoce 12 DSP. The measurements speak for themselves. They were also a channel sponsor of mine at the time, yet I wasn't overly impressed with them. I still chose SVS over them and they were not a channel sponsor. Just saying.
      I am human and I am subject to bias like anyone else, but I make sure to tell people what that bias might be. This video might be of interest to you. th-cam.com/video/4vMonPDftcI/w-d-xo.html

      @@joentell Joe you continue to show respect and courtesy to people who haven't been that way with you. Your grandparents would be extremely proud of the man you are every day.

      Can we watch other reviews on this system and see if what Joe says is corroborated?
