    "Why would I need to learn to pick locks?"
    Because it's a fun hobby. :) It's like figuring out a riddle

    I am a locksmith, I use this tool all the time on lockouts for Kwikset, BUT actually that is NOT what the tool was created for. It was created to remove the cylinder so you could rekey it. Before this tool came out I guess a decade ago, you had to remove the entire lock and disassemble it completely to get the cylinder out to rekey it.

    Ever since I took apart my first door knob, I knew there had to be a tool to pull those knobs apart. Kwikset security at its finest.

    I am a locksmith and one thing I can tell you is that it can and will break the spring steel fingers off sometimes I find it better to pick the lock . That way there's no chance of breaking them or you will have to get your customer a new one out of your profit

      Ok.. start practicing today and lets hear back from you when you Master picking the Kwikset Smart key Cylinders and make a Video of your own where you are able to bypass in just over 2 minuets like it is done in this Vid... I don't think so.... Just carry extra caps with springs...

    A few questions:
    (1) Do you remove the "key" part like a motel key or does it gain leverage some other way?
    (2) Did this affect the ability of the key to operate the lock?

      That tool does pull those clips off, and sometimes breaks one or both of those clips when pulled, and the part you pull out will not sit back in there securely till you replace the broken clip, or that center part of the lock , or the whole lockset
      When they work it's sweet, but you can break the lock, you can break the steel blank that slides into the lock if you do it wrong, got bitter with the sweet :)

  • @Richet125

    I wonder if it'll work on their smartkey knobs. EIther way, this is just another example of why I'll never use a kwikset lock on any of my properties, especially the smartkey ones since they can be forced open with a key blank and a set of vise grips

    I'd just knock out the hinge pins.

    • @StevePinkham
      @StevePinkham 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which is why security hinges are recommended for such applications. They can have "non-removable" pins and/or tabs or pins that hold the door closed even if the main pin is removed.
