LOU!! I’m stoked your video is up and to see you working on the 308 again, we missed you ❤ hopefully you finally were able to overcome the home stuff. Wishing you and your wife all the best from sunny AZ 👋🏻
I was going to say that Italian “Time Allowed” would include a 2 hour lunch and 6 smoke breaks, but apparently it really does require 8 hours. Keep plodding away on this. I always enjoy your videos!
HI Lou, Always enjoy the videos. You are restoring my favorite car in history! I am a motorcycle restorer and can sympathize with coming up with solutions to the constant curveballs you are thrown, without a how to guide. I hit the wall with body and cosmetic work with my latest bike, then discovered some issues and had no choice but to return to mechanical work. It was refreshing!
Great to see you back. In the meantime I've bought a 308GT4, much of which is similar/the same so it's all great entertainment and very useful technical blog!
Oh my, nothing on this car is easy! Nice work, though. Your process is inspiring to me, b/c it shows that if keep at it, and don't take short cuts, you can come up with something really nice. Being a pro with all the right tools also helps!
Congratulations on the work performed - made even more difficult with the requirement to film it. These type of tasks require enormous amounts of tenacity, resilience and know how to achieve a pleasing outcome. I have found the best way to achieve a good outcome when confronted with such tasks is to take lots of time to perform the work in order to 'de-risk' it and lots of down time/breaks between the points of peak frustration, where if one continues when subject to much frustration it will generally result in regrets and a poor outcome. I have found the knowledge/skill to overcome such difficult issues only comes with much experience.
Just wow in terms of your skill here as I know how much fun this is - not- after owning a Fiat X1/9 with targa roof seal that wasn’t water tight due to former owner dropping the roof - so each time you lifted gre targa roof held my breath lol - very pleased to see you move onto fuel and mechanical issues and bravo for your commitment here 🎯👏🏎
Nice to see you again Lou. We both know that there are two ways of doing things, the quick way and the correct way. We all try the quick way before conceeding that we have to do it the correct way. Glad you fixed the rail the Correct way.
I was starting to get worried about you Lou mate! But now I can worry no more because I know where you were… seal hell! Excellent work as always Lou, your OCD was definitely tapped out on this one!
Hats off for you Lou. I am having a 1973 911 targa and getting adjustments right is a pain. I have settled for the corners not being perfect. But almost always only goes with the top off anyway 😅. Keep up the good work
I looked up "labor of love" in the dictionary and there I saw: a picture of you and your 306! It is amazing what you are doing. I cannot imagine how much this would cost if a business took on this project for hire (it either would not take it on or it would cut a lot of corners). Looking forward to the next one!
I never knew about the update to the seal. I manged to find an old seal when I did mine, it never leaked there, it leaked at the windows where they weren't quite adjusted right to seal tight at the side of the targa roof. But no big deal. The other problem was I then had a seam where the one piece top of windshield piece met the one that wrapped around the back end. I can see the never-ending part. I think I said it would take me 3-6 months when I started. It took almost 3 years I think by the time it was done. You'll gt there, keep at it. It's getting close and closer.
Senior lou, I'm happy you actually had some time to get on the 308, I was thinking I would have to send frank over to motivate you and tell you how to do it correctly. When I'm back in ontario I will stop by to critique your work for you.
That legendary Ferrari build quality….or lack thereof, should I say😂 I love the brand, but yeah, I can see where one can get frustrated to to point of saying “eff THIS”! I have every confidence that you’ll prevail…..
I commend you for your patience, that was a fussy job. I have done a few of those kinds of jobs on my 328 and I feel like they are more tedious and stressful than the mechanical work (which is technically more complex). I look forward to the next video!
I have never heard the word de-motivating when describing a project that never seems to get dome but that is what happens.keepgoing with it’s you are well past the half way point and your going to be so proud of your work every time you drive it.😊
I detest those pop rivets all over the interior. I replaced as many as I could with rivet nuts and stainless button head flange torx screws which make the parts so much easier to put on and remove without risk of damage. I got my GT4 running a few weeks ago and drove it for the first time after 9 years of ownership so hang in there!
Welcome back. Follow you closely, restoring 85 QV 308. One small project is to re-stencil Ferrari logo on air box. What are the details on the black trim paint? Keep the videos coming!
That job has more in common with dentistry than automotive work, (with the possible exception of the painting). Isn't it pardoxical that large mechanical structures go together quite simply, while strips of rubber and thin channels cause endless grief?
Yeah Ferrari world is a tough crowd. I have sympathy if you have a super original car that is worth preserving but your car and my car do not fit that bill. Having said that I have the original spare on my GT4 that likely has Ferrari factory air in it if you want me to bottle and send to you to add originality to your car 😂
LOU!! I’m stoked your video is up and to see you working on the 308 again, we missed you ❤ hopefully you finally were able to overcome the home stuff. Wishing you and your wife all the best from sunny AZ 👋🏻
Home stuff will continue for at least another year but thank you.
@@LouTrottier well hell, not what I was hoping to hear. Hang in there 👊🏻

Love the camera in the bin shot
Thanks. Lol.
Breaking Bad style.

I’m much happier with mechanical work too. Good luck with the bike.
A fortnight late, but I'll let you off.
Another fun and useful video

I enjoy the time in peace and quiet. Therapeutic for me.

Nice car. Good luck with the top.
Keep going Lou, a joy to watch. Not too quick though as I don't want the videos to end....
At the rate I’m going there is still a lot to come. Thanks.
Baby steps Lou . Can’t wait for my ride …
You bet.
I'm glad you're back😂
Me too. Cheers.

Totally missed your upload 😮. ❤ Regards from sunny mallorca 🎉
thanks and cheers from frigid Toronto.
Brilliant to see you back and that car is looking superb! You are doing some great work on it…however frustrating it seems at times.
It’s not all bad. It’s therapeutic for me.
Great to get a new video. Love Project 308, do not let it get you down. You are one of the very best to save that car.
Thanks for sticking with me. Cheers.

In a video a way back I used a couple of rivet nuts and I got called a butcher by a Ferrari expert LOL. cheers.
Project 308!!!
finally!
Always a pleasure when you drop a new video even if you make us w a i t ! 😉
😂. I’m trying
another project 308 video?!?! oh lawd my long weekend just got fantastic again.
Thanks for watching.

made by SEM, trim black.. thanks for watching.
That car is fighting you every step 😂
Indeed it is.
As you install the rubber gasket, make sure you don't install it tight or stretched on the frame- it will shrink and then pop off inside corners.
Yes. Thanks.
Thank goodness I own a GTB. That roof looks like a nightmare to seal correctly.
Yup. It was.
Clearly a lot of work, but once it's right you'll think about how good it fits every time you put the roof on.
yes, the payoff will be muchhhhhhh later. LOl
😊
Cheers mate.
voted best use of clecos on youtube
Lol. You might be right.
HEY LOU.. MISSED YOU BRO... WHAT'S HAPPENING? WHY SO QUIET?
See the video from a couple of months ago. That one details what’s going on. Cheers.
Lou have you lost weight ?
I have yes. Thanks for noticing.
That job has more in common with dentistry than automotive work, (with the possible exception of the painting).
Isn't it pardoxical that large mechanical structures go together quite simply, while strips of rubber and thin channels cause endless grief?
yes, you are quite correct.
I don't get the issue with new seals, shit, just go to the east coast, they got thousands of them!
what?
WHAT?
Haha
First!
Woohoo first. Lol. Thanks
