YESS! I didn’t have mental health issues until after I graduated...but here lately I’ve learned that taking a personal day is totally fine. And I’m so blessed with a boss who gets it!
Yes! Some days I am extremely overwhelmed. One day at school I was getting teased all day and had a headache and just wanted to go home but I pushed through and bottled it all inside (which from past experience is very bad)
Back in school I didn't have them. Kept it all bottled up. Then tried to kill myself. Got admitted to mental hospital (surprise! 😆). After that my parents allowed me to stay home sometimes when I felt too overwhelmed.
Briana Mahaley same I know that I could never be that open about this because I know I would never be allowed and I know they wouldn’t feel too sorry for me
When you read out the text she sent, I instantly knew how she felt. And sometimes you just need a day off or a break because school is hard. My mom was talking to me the other night when i was dong my homework saying she never remembered school work in 9th grade being that hard. I get how she feels and you are honestly awesome for letting her go home because, well, just because and I know the feeling
I feel so bad for Katie, I have anxiety and depression and everyday is hard for me but I understand how she feels. I wish my mom was able to just take me out of school, but with her job she can’t just leave.
i wish my parents would actually realize that life’s getting harder and they aren’t the only ones struggling..yeah you have to pay “bills” and do other things. but it’s so hard being a teen because we have to fit into (or at least feel like it) society. and some teachers SLAM us with homework. and SLAM us with challenges that sometimes we can’t take. like it’s hard. it’s so hard being in a teens mind.
You did the right thing Jill, my mom still has me come home from college for short mental health weekends. Life gets crazy and by you letting her come home and open up to you she will feel more comfortable coming to you in the future when things really get crazy. Love this channel you guys are awesome.
I’m 20 and I feel the same way.. I feel like I’m stuck in a rut and it’s so hard to permanently change the things that need to be changed. It’s so disappointing to try and try but still end up in the same place with almost the same problems
I feel you too! I’m trying to get some credit cards paid off thank god for tax season then I’m going to start saving for a car and hopefully in the next two years have my own home and I’m heading back to college I have an app to set up for radiology. I’m so thrilled to get back in gear. It’s been a rough few months my car just went down and I put 700 back into it to get it going. My boyfriends been out of a job. But we’re slowly getting it together I think I’m going to go through my stuff and figure out my room like Katie has I need to
@@hannahobyrne8025 That's such a mood - apart from I just spent 500 getting my wheelchair back working and less than six months later I need yet another set of tyres - all four together is easily going to cost 600.
When I was at school, we would never be let home unless we were really ill. Even if we were late a few minutes, our parents would get a phone call chasing us down.... wish i had school in the US!
I’m not hating on them at all because as Katie’s parent she can do whatever she feels is right for her child. But, this is not a normal thing in America by any means. My parents would never pull me out of school unless they get a call from the nurse saying I need to go home for a physical health issue. I’ve only been taken out of school once this year and it was when I got a brain injury. I have headaches everyday and I don’t get taken out of school. By all means her parents can do what they want, but this is 100% not a normal thing in America. Most schools don’t even allow phones to text your parents, nevertheless allow parents to take their kid home without a solid and valid reason. I mean the school system is different in every state, and my state has the strictest school system and education laws so it could just be that my state doesn’t tolerate unnecessary dismissals. I mean do whatever your kid needs but this is definitely not what the average American parent would’ve done.
Jill you are such a good mom! As an anxious high schooler, a little bit of love and mental health day would've done me well. It's great to see you do that with Katie
i think katie’s room would be a lot more spacious and less cluttered if she moved her bed from the center of her room to a corner, and /or got rid of one of her desks and limited to one that she can do her makeup and everything she needs to do on!
Ferris Katie's day off!😁 Parents who say, how can you be stressed you only have school, should be sent to parenting school. Good luck Brennan hope you make it in, pretty sure you will excel at the academy.
When Mrs Jill asked Brennan when we might find out he said "No quiero" which means "I don't want", he should have said "no sé" which means I don't know 😁 just a tip!
Mental health days are very important. Even as a college student, I have to take a step back and reflect on my life and what's causing the weight feeling on my shoulders. Sometimes just writing how I feel or talking with a friend helps too.

I know I’m like a day late, but I’m going to share this anyways. I think it was awesome for you to pull Katie out of school and go shopping and get food and just relax. Sometimes that’s all we need. I’m a junior in high school and let me just say, this has been one of the hardest years of my life. I’ve had an increase in anxiety to the point where I just feel miserable 24/7. So when you read out Katie’s text, I could relate 100%. I didn’t have to know exactly what was gong on with her, to know what was going on with her. Sometimes all we need is a day off so we can breathe and just figure things out. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at school and I was just shaky all day and all I wanted to do was cry. So I’m sure that day off for Katie meant a lot and felt good. So for any person who is currently just struggling or feeling stressed or anxious, never be afraid to just stop and breathe
i’m really happy you gave katie the day off. i wish more parents would understand that school is more stressful than the worksheets, it’s exhausting. i knew how she felt when you read her text, and i could tell once she was out of the school environment for awhile she felt better:) you’re an amazing mom🥺

While a lot of people would think negatively of this, I think it is fantastic that when your kids call, you realize when it is a cry for help so to speak - that they need a mental health break. All of your kids are hard workers. I wish I had a Jill when I was in high school.
i see a lot of people saying Katie looked fine to them and that she was faking. First, I hate when people think they know better what's going on inside someone than the person herself. Second, what does stress look like? And does it look the same for everybody? I don't know why we have to assume the worst in people, especially since we're fans of the Donnellys who teach us exactly the opposite. Has no one else never left school or work early because of being stressed. It seems to me that if school was my stresser, then as soon as the car left the school parking lot, I'd most likely perk right up. And what's a better way to relieve stress for a girl than to go shopping - and with someone she recently told us is her best friend. Katie's lucky to have a super great mom. But Jill's pretty darn lucky to have a 15 year old daughter who thinks so much of her mother that she would tell the entire world that. That's a pretty darn cool and awesome kid!

I’m ALWAYS stressed out about school. I’m a Junior and I put way to much pressure on myself and it can be really hard at times. School really lowers your self confidence and self esteem, well for me it does. So I completely understand where Katie is coming from!!
I have issues like that with clutter too. Need to do a Marie Kondo on my space. Part of my problem is ADHD though...if I can’t see my project, I forget all about them. But that means I end up leaving everything out! What I need is a good labeller I think.
I'm doing the same thing with my room. I'm moving and I'm planning on throwing out everything aside from the essentials. It feels soooo good to just throw everything
one day i texted my mom to pick me up early bc i felt so sick and i was having an awful day and she literally made me stay in school bc she thought i was faking just to get out of school

Congratulations Brennan! 🥳🖤👍🏻
I think it's so wonderful that you understood Katie and let her have a mental health day. That's so important ^.^
Also yess I agree, discounts are the way to go. :D
Katie you have the best mom ever mental health days like this are super important!
such an amazing mom. my parents would just laugh at me
It’s so nice just letting your kids go out of school for a bit bc it’s so stressful
And hey the donellys I’ve been a fan since Katie and Annie did qymnastics together miss those days
I felt the same way Katie did too!!! Feels very good that I’m not the only one feeling like that
You are a GOOD MOM ! May God bless you and your family
Jill you are such an amazing mom
one day i texted my mom to pick me up early bc i felt so sick and i was having an awful day and she literally made me stay in school bc she thought i was faking just to get out of school
