The 1950's. Specifically 1956. Notice the short hair styles for women (all women). Retro movies get it wrong when they show women with hair down to their shoulders.
This could sound GREAT!! What a shame that the audio was totally messed up. What was CBS thinking by giving the greatest volume to the screaming audience??
Unfortunately, CBS was not trying to document the performance. They didn't care. They were using the footage for a documentary on juvenile delinquency. There is footage of the Moonglows that they shot at the same concert with NO sound!
good lord, if only this footage had better sound and was clearer. could you imagine if we could re master old concerts from the 50s and 60s that featured some of the greatest soul/blues/jazz/rock n roll singers. could you imagine if we had real footage like we do now except showing artists recording in the old studios, such as hitsville. if only if only!!!
Truthfully, cops were present and on the lookout at most concerts in those days, including those of Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis to name a few. That wasn’t unique to this concert, or this particular crowd, as you insinuate.
it makes me emotional to see everyone having such a good time🥺 etta knew how to get a crowd moving!
DAYUM!!!!!
Rare and exclusive!🎬🙂❤

Course the cops had to keep a sharp eye on the crowd.

It was illegal to have a good time in those days.🤣
