I first heard Nazareth in 1978. I was a teenager. I lived in the USSR and there was an Iron Curtain. Therefore, everything that came to us was contraband! My friends and I immediately fell in love with NAZARETH, and of course I went to NAZARETH concerts as soon as they began to come to us! Thank you Dan, Manny, Darrel !...and R.I.P. ....Thank you Pit!

WOW 🤯, I did not know that he passed away just a few days ago.
When 'Hair of the Dog' came out, I turned all of my friends on to Nazareth, who were a new band at the time. It's very sad to see him go. Thank you Dan for Rocking us through all the years. We will miss you, for sure. Godspeed Man. 🕉🙏☮

@@NowSpinningMagazine I got to buy lunch for Manny Charlton right outside of Dallas a few years ago, can't believe they're both gone now , not far apart either, wish I could have bought Dan lunch too. The first time I ever heard them was ' Woke Up This Morning' off of the Razamanazz album. The D. J. in B'ham, Al never would tell who the artist was when he first started to play it, took me months to find out who did the song , was at a friends house one day and he put the tape in and I yelled " Who is that?!!" bought it later that week and their next 5 or 6 albums were preordered even before the release dates. My all time favorite rockers. Thanks for the reply.

Wow. Thank you.sir. That was a very beautiful farewell. I discovered Nazareth in the mid 70's with "Love hurts" and then starting to search their back catalogue as well as the new stuff that was coming out For a few years I wished I were Dan, since he was so cool. !n 1977, living in rural Sweden, punk was sort of a blessing but I stuck with Dan. "No mean city" of 1979 was so brilliant. But so were The Specials, The Jam and Joy Division. I left Nazareth on the boiler until about 1983/1984 when they suddenly decided to visit rural Sweden. Me and my big brother prepared for months, listening to "Its Naz" to get into a Vancouver vibe. On these two evenings, at two different venues, Nazareth showed what star quality means. They simply rocked and gave me some of my childhood back. I stopped listening to new material from Nazareth along with "2xS", but I soarely miss Manny and Dan. And Terry Hall, btw.

Sad to lose both Manny Charlton and now Dan McCafferty in 2022. In my home province of Alberta Canada the Naz outsold the Beatles in the 70s.The soundtrack of our teen years. My first rock concert and first band I really followed and bought each album as they came out. Just want to offer condolences and give thanks for the creative genius of these unique artists. Dan had such a tremendous voice. Of course he could scream to the high heavens, but also be very soulful. "Place In Your Heart" is a prime example.
As a general rule I don't get sad over celebrity deaths, but the lads from Nazareth are a big exception. Never knew em but of course I wish I could.

Dan, with his Little Richard/Otis Redding-inspired, raspy soul-screaming, was so influential! Brian Johnson and Axl Rose were inspired to sing like him, along with many other artists after he appeared on the musical landscape in the 1960s. It was a tragedy that The Grammy Awards didn't even mention him and his lead guitarist, co-songwriter, and producer of some material from '68 to '90, Manny Charlton, in the In Memorium segment of the telecast. Rolling Stone highlighted this error in their recent article. It was a great opportunity for surviving members of Deep Purple, AC/DC, and Guns N Roses, and Nazareth to jam together in tribute. RIP Dan and Manny.

  • @clivesnowden4348

Broken Down Angel was one of the first singles I ever bought. It's one of those records that transports me back in time - to early '73 - each time I hear it. Such a perfect single. But all those early 45's were excellent, especially Bad Bad Boy, My White Bicycle, and This Flight Tonight. Dan's passing does indeed, as you mention here, make us think of our own mortality and where we are on this journey. Another piece of our childhood disappears. I was just nine years old when I first heard Nazareth. Fifty years later and I'm still listening. Thank goodness we still have the music. Now Spinning somehow feels like a natural gathering place for fans to share their memories. So, thanks, Phil, for this personal, heartfelt tribute. You have a real talent for this kind of thing. You always treat the artist, their family and friends, and the fans, with great respect. And your passion for the music never fails to shine.

Hi Clive, thank for watching and sharing your memories of this fine band. This is the 19th tribute video I have done on this channel. It is not something I wanted to be good at and at first it never occurred to me to attempt one. As I found my voice and gained confidence I have felt it important to say a few words. Life is fragile, fleeting even, but music and creativity is what sets us apart and for these artists becomes a lasting legacy to be discovered by future generations. Phil

They do! Most every album from the first all the way up through, I think, Big Dogz, I bought it a few years ago and paid around 150 bucks for it, you'll be lucky to find it at all but prepare to pay much more than that now. It's actually a heavy (weight wise) box set as it also contains magazines and full size vinyl lps of a couple of their albums, it's well worth what I paid for it to me, you can see it just over his right shoulder in this video also.

Nice tribute as always. Not sure re Cinema and The Fool Circle as the 80's early 90's saw the band becoming a wee bit poppy with those 80's affectations that rock bands suffered from in that period. However was pleasantly surprised when Boogaloo came out as this sounded like the gritter 70's sound which the band followed thereafter. Great band, great vocalist and thank you Dan

Another heartfelt presentation and tribute Phil. You are right- as we age we certainly reflect on our own mortality…keeping a healthy interest in music is truly “brain food” and an antidote. It is always fascinating to think how the great musicians have left such a tremendously influential and positive mark on the world. And people like Peter Green and Roy Buchanan always struggled to accept their purpose. Rock on Dude- your input is so needed in this world today. Cheers!
