    Thanks so much for this video. Just rented this machine from Home Depot and they did not even have an instruction sheet nor did they know what the leveler knob was for. This video saved time and aggravation. Thanks again.

    This is very useful for the aging weekend warrior who does not want to dig a number of 30" x 10" post holes by hand. This tow-behind unit is far more user friendly than the old school one/two man powered auger.

    I rented one of these from Home Depot and was disappointing by the power. I went through clay with a 12" auger attachment. Someone may have beet me digging a 42 inch hole with a manual post digger. If you are digging through clay and have more than a couple holes, I'd recommend something more powerful, like a mini-skid steer.

    This machine is not for all types of soil. I am in Boulder where the ground is not only rocky, but also has a layer of clay that this machine was no match for. I was only able to drill 8 of the 23 holes in a full day, and of those just a couple to the full 24" depth. I feel the rental agency should have warned me about the Groundhog's limitations, and steered me to another more powerful machine. I am hoping that the Toro Dingo will do a better job and be faster at it.

    • @CarlosMunoz-wr4pj
      @CarlosMunoz-wr4pj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Gary. I was curious, how did the Toro Dingo do? Where were you able to rent it at?

    • @garymontesano5903
      @garymontesano5903 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CarlosMunoz-wr4pj Hey Carlos, I wouldn't recommend this machine, for it wasn't heavy duty enough to dig 12" holes without being thrown off course by some of the larger rocks I encountered. I rented it from Sunbelt rentals on Pearl Parkway in Boulder, and I won't rent from them again, because they rented me a machine at the outset that was inadequate for the job, even though they knew the scope of the project. I would suggest that you check with Home Depot to see about renting a Bobcat with an auger attachment. Good luck with your project.

    • @Joshua79C
      @Joshua79C 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No auger comes with a built in level or plumb alignment system it is all eyeball it or using a long level to plumb the hole.

      If using for posts then you don't need it to be 100% straight. You level your post or whatever else in the hole.

    I just rented one of these and it was disappointing to say the least. the best application for this machine is flat ground with easy soil or small loose rocks. If you are working on a hill it will try to roll away, or wheel chocks will prevent you from angling the bit. In rocky soil, this machine does not work at all.
