No one sounds perfect live. The reason Patrick's voice sounded more strained here than it does now is probably because he is in MUCH better shape now than ever before. He lost all that weight which allows him better lung capacity and lung control. In my opinion, they still sounded amazing, even if they were a little tired.
Time traveller visiting over here... Just marvelling at one of my favorite childhood bands, and viewing them play their hearts out. I really like how they handle their mistakes- when Pat played the wrong chord, he looked for it... and I found Pete staying at the back with his back turned all the time funny. 🤣
The vocals on the studio version are really layered so I am sure trying to translate that live is a lot more difficult than you'd think, especially when you're trying to play an instrument at the same time.
The reason people are saying he sounds bad live is because the studio version has like a million vocal layers. Hes obv tired here but has great tone and is hitting all the notes. Ur just used to hearing like 30 of him at once in the studio version along with like a whole orchestra lol
