First, Child's Play 2019 is a remake not a reboot because it exists in a continuity completely separate from the original films. Second, although a reboot usually defined as a change in the franchise's continuity, it can also mean a shift in the franchise's status quo either through a change in story structure, main character cast, or the tone. Under this definition the chucky franchise has had three reboots. Example: The first three films story structure is Chucky transferring his soul to a Good Guy doll and tries to possess the main character. The main character is Andy Barclay. The tone is mainly horror with comedic elements. The fourth and fifth films story structure is a Chucky soul is transferred to a Good Guy doll by a third party. The main character is Chucky and Tiffany. The tone is mainly comedic with horror elements. The sixth and seventh films story structure is Chucky trying to get revenge on the main character. The main character is Nica. The tone is horror/comedy. The Chucky series story structure is Chucky trying to get revenge on a supporting character. The main character is Jake. The tone is horror/drama. 2. I think Chucky only just finding out in Cult of Chucky that he can split his soul is consistent with his character. Remember after he transferred his soul into the Good Guy doll in the first film he had to seek out his voodoo doctor because he didn't bother learning all the rules before using the voodoo ritual. So I think it make sense he would be to short sighted in his goals to fully learn the spells capabilities. I would agree it's addition to the lore raises a lot of questions, but Don Mancini (Writer of Chucky) has always been wishy-washy with the lore since the beginning. 3. This might be a hot take but I vehemently dislike Bride of Chucky. Chucky and Tiffany are great in the movie and their natural chemistry is easily the highlight of the movie. Everything else in the film falls flat for me. The plot is ludicrous at its best and boring at its worst. Every character that's not Chucky or Tiffany is either annoying, unlikable, or both. The complete disregard for the voodoo's lore is infuriating. And the dialogue often reeks of the post scream movies of the late 1990s and early 2000s where Hollywood was trying to unsuccessfully copy Scream's meta dialogue. On a more positive note it's cool to see another Child's Play remake fan. I feel a lot of people didn't give the movie a fair chance just because it was a remake. I never understood the fear of the film because whether or not it was good it wouldn't affect the quality or legacy of the original films since there in separate continuities. Also, fun fact did you know the remake was actually inspired by the original concept for Child's Play. When Don Mancini originally pitched the film Chucky was just a regular doll with no voodoo possession by a serial killer. Instead Andy who was darker character in this version used blood magic to bring Chucky to life in exchange for killing his enemies such as school bullies, teachers, babysitters and even his own mother. Charles Lee Ray and the voodoo aspects were added later by the suggestion of the producers and the film's director Tom Holland (not the Spider-Man actor). So the creation of the killer doll we all know and love was a group effort.

To be fair, at best those are soft reboots, not full ones because a full reboot means a change in continuity, while a soft reboot is what you described like how GOW 2018 is a soft reboot. So yeah the bar works, but you could also argue with FNAFs changes like FNAF world, Afton is also dissing himself It just doesn’t make much sense in the sense he has one soul. One soul for one body. It’s not too bad like you said because it can easily be explained as a ability he just discovered and that’s fair. But the way it’s done just doesn’t land, they kinda over did it. ‘ That’s fair, the 90s and 2000s weren’t too kind to slashers, Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky are definitely either you love it or hate it type deals I agree! The movie is pretty damn good for what it is and especially as far as remakes go? It could be a lot worse. I love the cast, Marks great and Aubrey is fantastic. And the new characters as Andy’s friends is welcome. The only problem is chuckys face is a lil weird, just a lil off. I was nervous about Chucky not being Charles, because Charles personality made the character, but while he wasn’t the Chucky we knew, Marks talent really sold it. I did know that! There was even an idea that Charles was going to be Andy’s father I believe.
