Are the gm 10.5 and aam 10.5 the same thing? Do they both have the pinion support bearing? I took apart a 10.5 and the pinion support bearing was not installed! It has the area for the bearing and the pinion has the nub on the pinion head but the bearing it self was just not installed.
Strange my 95 K1500 Z71 6.5L diesel on the build sheet i thought stated a 373 9.75 14 bolt standard rear end. It is 14 bolt I've changed my gear oil. I'll have to research that more. I'am looking at getting 373 PT.

...what rear end does my 1970 3/4 ton full float have in it?...it looks a bit different than this...geared very low, and now making a lot of noise....needs repaired/replaced....

Great nice video. I went to Chevrolet and gave them my vin and they were able to print out my build sheet. My 14 bolt is a 3.73 9.5 non Posi traction on my K1500 6.5L TD diesel. I want to change it over to Posi traction. What do I need to accomplish this.

What is the gear ratio of a 10.5 inch straddler pinon. I don't have a tag and don't feel much like taking off the cover just yet. Do they only offer one gear ratio for the 10.5 inch gm.

is the "big boy" as you called it common in 02 1500 hd Sierra? lol just found out I gotta replace transfer case. and found leak in rear end yolk shaft.
no, the 11.5" AAM axle is used behind the Diesel's and select gas powered HD platforms. it is allways an 8 lug full floating axle.
the 14 bolt used in a half ton truck would be the small 9.5" 33 spline c - clip type axle.
GM 14 bolt 9.5 semi-float here. 365 turns, 24 hairpins on a 17 mile 4000 ft climb. Getting popping towards the top of climb. Should I run a little more slip modifier while I live up here? Well paved roads by the way. Pretty sure gear oil is stock (160k miles) so would that just be breakdown of modifier over time? A tire always chirps around the hairpins.

I also have a 9.5" semi- floater in my '97 K1500 and there is no need for the slip modifier in fact that could be your problem. The G80 rear end is a locking differential not limited slip, big difference. I would drain it and refill with fresh GM 88900401 or ACDelco 10-4016 synthetic axle lubricant.
Thanks, might try that next time. I already went with the AC Delco oil and modifier recommended in the owners manual. No more popping, runs great. Still gets a good chirp in the hairpins.
What I drained out was sludge that defied typical cleaning solvents. Let it drain with heat lamps for 2 days and still was oozing out. Recently bought this truck with 160K. Looks like the fluid was never changed. Gonna flush and new oil again in a couple of months. I only put on about 100 miles every 2 weeks.

Is there a way to identify the Full floating axle on a window sticker of a brand new truck? or for it to be a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD with a 3.73 axle ratio going to indicate automatically that the truck will have a full floating axle?
Any big block or diesel 3/4 and 1 ton in the last 10 years made by GM or Dodge uses the American Axle Manufacturing...aam... 11.5 rear . It has a huge ring and pinion but still runs the same 30 splinec1.5 shafts as the older 10.5 14 bolt . Dodge uses the same 11.5 as GM Since mod 2000s as Dana axle did not get the bid to supply them the axles .Dodge uses a better spec 11.5 than GM ,but what else is new gm trucks are for city folk .
All full floater axles can be just unbolted and slid right out. Look at the back tires/rim you'll see the bolts holding them in.

I would call it the AAM 11.5 if it is for a 2003 or newer dodge 2500 or 3500
I own a 87 Chevy V20 3/4 ton 6.2L diesel 4x4 and my truck has a stock 14 bolt SEMI-Float which really sucks! Question : Is it even possible to swap out the semi-float flange axles to full float and swap the 9.5" to a 10.5" ???
No, the entire housing will have to be replaced to go to a full float. A similar year Chevy with the 10.5 should be a fairly easy swap,.
I've been searching for that answer all morning! I'm looking at junkyards and would prefer the full float 10.5 on my 2000 C-2500, but it came with the SF 9.5. I would assume the axles all mount to the truck the same way... but I dunno. hah
@Yukon Gear & Axle Just thought I would give you an update which is that I ended up swapping my 9.5" semi-float axle to a 10.5" full-float axle with no problems everything fit right up and in fact did not even have to lengthen or shorten my driveshaft. Now I'm in the process of swapping out my 4.10 ratios for 3.42 ratios!
@@jessiej3991 How did that work out, now you can't use overdrive? The 6.2 can barely turn a 4.27, they should have made a 4.6 for them.

Yet there are 2 versions of the 14 b FF , 70's to 87 and 87 - 2000 and the difference is huge.
