Or is it the man who originally asked the previous question? If you ask DJ Clark Kent, he will likely side with the latter.
According to the legendary DJ and sneakerhead, Spike Lee made people pay attention to Air Jordans and could be considered the father of sneaker hype altogether. Kent claims that at the beginning, only sports guys were into Air Jordans, but it wasn't until Spike Lee's appearance in the Nike ads for the Air Jordan 4s that the average kid started to pay attention. Clark Kent goes on to say that Spike Lee made the shoes become a character through their appearance in She's Gotta Have It and Do The Right Thing.
"You didn't even care that Jordan was in the commercial," said Kent, while highlighting the "Is it the shoes?" question was geared entirely towards the shoes and not the best basketball player on the planet. Clark Kent also questioned the success Converse could have had if the same question was asked during Magic Johnson and Larry Bird's time with the brand.

Honestly. I feel what he's saying, there is this feeling when you put on a brand new pair of sneakers that I can't explain, you feel like the freshest motherfucker in the world. So I 100% agree on that. If you put on a pair of jordan 3's, and you wear them every day, that feeling disappears. I personally don't have the money or want to do that, I just don't care, but everyone knows that feeling, and can 100% relate to putting on something new and just getting that feeling of confidence. It's a great feeling.

I remember that time frame clearly, I was a freshman in high school (88) & bout 85 to 90% ppl were wearing air force 1's. That commercial did a lot for MJ. The shoe game was lovely back then, you could actually go into the store and it would've been the first time you would have even seen the shoe. #facts

Dope interview respect to a triple og sneakerhead like Dj Clark Kent. Overall I loved Js since day 1 as a kid and it wasn't because of no spike lee Jordan was the reason always, before kids and old heads thought it was cool to buy them to flip. I remember being a kid and seeing Jordan sitting in stores 3s,4s,5s, etc.. Being able to walk into a store and find the shoes you wanted days. When Footlocker had the backboard over the register and score board, jerserys on one side,starter jackets all of that shit. Man good times but now it a joke haha can't really get dope shit without hypebeast's and reseller's copping everything.

Then as he got into how it has to be a band new pair each & every time & he never wears a pair twice I was like this nigga is sick. My dude, if u wear a new pair every day as the weather permits, u can come back around the next year & re-wear that same pair a sec time. There's no need to buy them again u less u had a really active day & u really fucked them up to the point that it's obvious they not new.
