Gonna be totally honest, I love both. Metal is so extremely epic and makes me feel powerfull, it makes me envision myself standing atop a hill with a dead dragon under my foot and a bloodied a blade in my tightly clenched fist. While Punk is so chaotic makes me feel like I'm breaking free off the will of my so called "betters" and rise against them, doing everything in my individual power and in the power of my individual allies to overthrow them. Like I said, both are fucking amazing and rock. But I prefer Punk haha

What I really love about this vid is that it showcases the emphasis put onto the guitar in both genres. Metal seems to place a greater amount onto the guitar, which is shown in how much single string work there is and the more complex melodies. Punk seems to place the guitar more as a backing piece based on the larger focus on strumming and much smaller amount of use of single strings. I still love both genres, though I prefer metal. Especially what I like to call Fantasy Metal; metal based on works of fantasy fiction like LotR and D&D. That's why my favourite bands are Nightwish and Blind Guardian. Love the video Charlie. You're as awesome as always.
The One Who Does Things Sir Christopher Lee, the actor (and ex-nazi hunter/all around badass) who portrayed Saruman in the Lord of the Rings films has released two (three? Maybe?) metal albums. A lot of Dio's music had fantasy elements as well, stuff like Stargazer from his Rainbow days. I'm not sure if there's really a need for a specific sub-genre for fantasy, as fantasy elements crop up in lots of metal sub-genres.
The One Who Does Things That's not true. Folk metal and Viking metal do not cover stuff like Nightwish and Blind Guardian, those bands are not under those sub-genres. Most "fantasy metal" is power metal, though fantasy is not exclusive to power metal of course. A lot of folk metal and viking metal tend to have "paganism" as a central theme to them... also drinking (in Korpiklaani's case), which is obviously different from fantasy. Of course there is overlap like in the case of Elvenking which I'd consider power folk metal, or in some weird way Wintersun, which has some elements of power metal and folk metal in it, though I wouldn't call them either of those two genres.
You nailed it. Punk rock requires a guitar a bass, drums, and vocals. Metal really just needs a guitar. The maker of this video is also biased btw. He started and ended with metal just like in his other video.
+Daniel «Pedil» Pedić How so? It may be a common template for post-90's punk (it did sound very much like The Offspring), but to say it's a common template for a riff, for punk as a genre, is kind of wrong.

Fuck yeah. That was awesome. It'd be easy to say that metal won, but to be honest, they both were equally awesome. Punk has a lot of feeling and emotion to it, and metal often loses that when it gets too complex. But then sometimes metal can break through with something melodic and really evoke an emotional response. Whatever, both genres are great. No need to choose a winner.
