    Man that is an EXCELLENT job! Awesome work. Just remember KOI will outgrow that pond in 1 year. If you have the space start building a bigger one. Minimum for koi should be around 1500 to 2000 gallons. Yours looks GREAT! I love it!

    Justin, You have specs for the design?..... it looks great... kinda similar to a raised planter box I built with a liner to hold water under the dirt so water can percolate up. I want to build your design on my deck. The 4x4 corner is a nice touch and the corner box is perfect esthetically. Hope to see the design.

    • @justincao9263
      @justincao9263  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply. I didnt really draw up any specs but it was fairly simple. I just kind of winged the whole process but it was just 4 4x4 posts tied in with the 2x12s.

    • @justincao9263
      @justincao9263  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was very simple. As long as you have the right tools and know how to safely use them, anyone can do it. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

    real important !!! that mesh trash can you used as a pump strainer is metal and it will corrode and leach into the water and be harmful to your fish. go to Target or home depot and get a plastic fake wicker trash bin its loaded with little openings and will never rust. if your pond is 400 plus gallons you don't need 3000 gph pump so your moving so much water you fish will never have any place to rest and will tire to the point of death. most ponds run a 1 or a 2 times cycle unlike an aquarium that runs 4 times the water volume an hour through your filter so slow your rate down with a ball valve or get a smaller pump.

    • @justincao9263
      @justincao9263  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Jimi182 Thanks for your input. Yeah the trash can was only temporary until I could find a milk crate or something because my goldfish were getting sucked into the pump. And as for my pump, I would've gotten a smaller one but I already had this pump from a previous pond. And it's hooked up straight to the waterfall so the water isn't being displaced too much so the surrounding area around it looks calm enough for the fish. But I will definitely keep an eye out and get another pump if necessary. Thanks again for taking time out of your day to watch my video and for you input.

    Awesome pond! How is it holding up? Did you have to do anything to winterize it?

    • @justincao9263
      @justincao9263  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! Pond is holding up really well! I didn't have to do anything for the winter. Koi are okay when it comes to the cold, so as long as your pond is at least 3 ft deep, they should be okay. Plus, I live in Houston so it doesn't get too cold down here anyways. I'm gonna make more videos soon, so make sure to subscribe if you haven't already!

    Can you show how you plumbed the pump hose into the bottom of the waterfall? Thanks!

    • @justincao9263
      @justincao9263  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply, but it was fairly simple. The outlet from the pump was connected into a T. One pipe from the T went to a UV filter, and the other pipe went directly into the waterfall.

    Hi Justin,
    Can you tell me how this pond is holding up? I'm trying to build a wooden pond myself and I'm looking for ideas to keep it from bowing and last a long time

  • @cliffordder1174

    IS the bottom of the pond raised above your patio and only the 4x4 standing on the patio?

    • @justincao9263
      @justincao9263  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it was built directly on my cement patio. I just laid down some old blankets to cushion the liner.

    • @justincao9263

      I had butterfly koi in here but I think they need something a little bigger so that it doesnt stunt their growth. This pond is more suitable for golfish. But I just built a newer and bigger pond for the koi so check it out and tell me what you think!

    Great job on the pond. I have two ponds. A 7000 gallon koi pond and a 700 gallon goldfish pond. A couple of pieces of advice... find a way to put in a bottom drain and don't skimp on filtration. Get the smallest bead filter you can afford. Lava rock and bio balls are not very good physical filters and filter pads can be a pain to clean when your goldfish grow up. In fact, I'd get rid of the lava rock altogether. It's a breeding ground anaerobic bacteria, so you'd be better off tossing it and using the space for more bio balls that you can properly wash. Good luck. th-cam.com/video/Ivz5pZCpe88/w-d-xo.html
