What brass instrument do you say is the hardest? I think French horn is. I play tuba but I've learned all of the brass instruments and went to woodwind. Oboe is my next after that, I have bassoon and that's it. I'll have to start learning stranger instruments.
lol same i played the trumpet for 2 years and now ive been playing oboe for a year (i thought he would show to play C# so thats why im here haha) but if you ever need tips you can ask me!
The problem seems to be how I play the embouchure. I need to regulate the embouchure so I can play the bare reed fully in my mouth and with just the tip in my mouth comes out to the same tone. But I need some tips on how to do that other than, "You need to improve your embouchure." My question isn't whether, it's how.
Well... we all have different opinions, flute, I think, might be a better idea than the oboe. I play the oboe and honestly I hate it, so many struggles with the reed breaking, soaking, the sound is terrible when you aren't experienced, costs a lot, and you might need a teacher. I would definitely choose flute over oboe any day.
Asian Wonton If you have been playing clarinet for at least a year two years is even better but anyways then the oboe is pretty quick to learn depending on the person
Thank you so much. As a complete beginner approaching 70, I found it most reassuring that the notes I was playing sounded remarkably like yours straightaway! This is important, because if you blow harder you can get other notes out of it, especially the octave of the G. A word of warning ! All the oboe videos like this available in England on youtube seem to be American. With an English oboe, you DON’T need the right hand for the C . And what is this little hole at the back ? Presumably the thumb plate takes care of that. Still, have it your way if you really prefer it. But it might be worth a mention for the unwary and completely naïve. Note: English folk do need to unpress the thumb plate for the C. You are going to need an English instruction manual, and in the case of this video, don’t start with the C. The other notes are perfectly easy too. Mind you, I am an avid recorder player, and am in the habit of resting a lot of the weight on my lip. Don’t do that with the oboe !
i play the soprano sax. I see that the finger position are the same for B, A, G, but different for C. are there any other big differences? I am very interested in learning the oboe
same i play bari alto and tenor(but i main bari) and i am pretty interested in picking up the oboe too nice to see theres other sax players in this lonely world lol ive never tried soprano is it hard?
How far into the oboe does the reed go? And, where on the reed do the lips go? I’ve been playing around and i’m sure I’ll figure it out, but suggestions are helpful.
Karen Sorrentino Make sure you have cork grease, and it should be inserted into the oboe until it stops. If there is a space, the air gathers in that area as it disturbs the flow of the air and the pitch will be flat. Always insert the reed completely, Always remove the reed using the cork, not the thread.
+Jack “JD” Degenhart The fingerings aren't the same as far as I know, but from what I've seen, the oboe shares the same fingerings G, A, and B with the saxophone and the upper octave of the clarinet
+Jack Degenhart (“JD”) It's absolutely different . There are about 100 fingerings for the oboe ( you don' t need to know all of them at the beginning) , and various fingerings for some notes , following the serie of notes you have to play but also the speed , the precision , or the beauty of the sound . For instance : if you have to play fast , then some fingerings are impossible to use and it exists other ones , but a little less beautiful or precise . etc ... If you have to play some melodies, there is a problem for fingering D and just after F ...So you need another fingering . But the main problem concerns the reeds !!
If you look at 4:46, the vent between the B key and the A key closes when he releases the F# key. It opens when he presses it down. That's how the F# key causes B to become C
So clarinet is easier, that is what most people say. Oboe is a double reed instrument so it may be harder to start of as an oboist after being a flutist. But if you start on clarinet you know the fingers for oboe. So it really depends. I hope this helped.
all of my notes are flat by a whole step, but my embouchure is decent and my reed is pushed all the way in. could something be wrong with the oboe i just got?
Posture and support. Beginning private lessons. Proper reed. Sit up in your chair and at the front with your back straight. It’s good that you know your pitch is that far off.
Demonstrating beginning oboe with gold plated keys and hardware? Seriously ?? Do you know the expression on parents faces when they have to shell out money to buy a new reed each time? That is obnoxiously pretentious but of course that’s only my opinion.
I'm switching from clarinet to oboe soon once the school's oboe is dug out so I'm binge watching all the tutorials
Levi the Clean Freak Same tho
Levi the Clean Freak same
me too lmao
Same, I actually am using one noe
Sameee
I decided, “you know what, why not go from the hardest brass instrument, to the hardest wind instrument, what could go wrong?”
I’m here now

i am going from flute to oboe, what could go Ronge
@@logan.geerrr I've been playing Horn for almost 5 years and now. for no good reason, I've decided to start on oboe.
Same
The finger chart looks scary..
Aigotha Lin Yang IKRR
I was originally a flute player and the finger chart is so different lol
Wait until you see the bassoon fingering chart
It is ☹️
This video takes me back to beginner band which is not where I want to be...
Whoever designed the oboe is a real CBAG, if you know what I mean.
Nice one
😆
😂😂😂
LMAO
Do Si La Sol ?
I play alto saxophone and this translate well because it is mostly the same except for the C
Dexter Letterman true
All woodwinds are relatively similar. The C is almost always different though
The Reed it's self at 0:31 played a B natural
You make it sound so easy!!
because it is easy
C, B, A, and G are easy.
i’ve been playing for 3 years why am i watching this
Mood
Same.
My c came out as a b natural
I have the same problem, however, I cant really play D at all
Make sure your fingers are properly covering the plates
The problem seems to be how I play the embouchure. I need to regulate the embouchure so I can play the bare reed fully in my mouth and with just the tip in my mouth comes out to the same tone. But I need some tips on how to do that other than, "You need to improve your embouchure."

Noah That helped me a lot
this an excellent video to tune to

Me, in 8th grade band, making sure my oboe sounds somewhat decent
So i play a clarinet but I want to do oboe or flute. Are both of the insturments good ideas for me to do?
W.A Raider i
Asian Wonton if u want to play a double reed instrument u might need lessons. i play flute and trying clarinet
Well... we all have different opinions, flute, I think, might be a better idea than the oboe. Asian Wonton I play flute, oboe, and piano so yes I do think that is a good idea for you.
nice video!! please post a video teaching all notes
Yes.
I do not play an oboe, but If I had friends who did (or if I decided to learn it) I would go to your videos
+Fedor Voronov
It's nice from you , because at the very beginning , teachers usually don't like to listen to the noise you make !!
I’ve been playing the Oboe for almost 2 years and I don’t know why I’m here.
Chris’ Baby Stay plz help me
Same but I’ve been playing for four
Thank you so much. As a complete beginner approaching 70, I found it most reassuring that the notes I was playing sounded remarkably like yours straightaway! This is important, because if you blow harder you can get other notes out of it, especially the octave of the G.

I live in Wisconsin and I have nothing but English Thumb Plate (John packer and Buffet) oboes wouldn't have it any other way.
him: the b is a half step lower than the B
no one:
literally no one:
me: ends up sounding like a dying duck
also me: um... thats sounds right
Keep trying and you'll bring that duck back to life. #zombieduck
I used to play the oboe years ago. Want to learn how to play it again
Same here! I kind of miss it even though it was a huge pita when I was taking lessons
Omg. Your oboes have gold keys. That looks so cool, my oboe has gray keys
Grey keys, or silver plated?
Silver*, but yes, that is the most common.
i play the soprano sax. I see that the finger position are the same for B, A, G, but different for C. are there any other big differences? I am very interested in learning the oboe

this helped me a lot
What brand of oboe is this ?
beautifull oboe
How can you do a re or like an & at my school we have to do something like 1 2 3 4te 1 2 3te 4 etc

Jeff Zabelski thanks for the reply.
Jeff Zabelski However half of the time, you should not go all the way in. It will come out as too sharp then...
@@benchen2468
Absolutely not true!
There are at least several reasons why you may be playing sharp and above the pitch.
@@benchen2468
Push it in all the way, all the time!
I’m learning oboe., my advice is to persist
I've been playing flute for awhile but I also want to be able to play oboe, since they are both C instruments is reading music the same?
***** How fast could I pick it up? It sounds awesome and I want to play it so bad.
***** What about the difference of fingering of the oboe vs the flute?
+Jack “JD” Degenhart The fingerings aren't the same as far as I know, but from what I've seen, the oboe shares the same fingerings G, A, and B with the saxophone and the upper octave of the clarinet

+Corey Fleeman absolutely. Took me nearly 6 years to get a decent sound out of mine. lol
The fingering chart is backwards compared to mine
Is it available in india, how much price
I like those golden keys they look cool
You help me I amor a bingenier in middle school and that help si much
Omg I am a clarinet player and I wanted to try to play oboe so I'm also binging vids lol
Plz make more oboe notes in videos
Learning to play the Oboe from the beginning is a nightmare for your neighbors.
I'm wondering why C having one more key down compared to B actually sounds higher? It "should" have sounded like a B flat (on the saxophone it would )
Judorange1980 because C is higher than B, thats how that works
If you look at 4:46, the vent between the B key and the A key closes when he releases the F# key. It opens when he presses it down. That's how the F# key causes B to become C
I only have a Intermediate oboe, and I am just learning to play. Do these fingerings work as well?
+Deadly Kitten (AshleyME1) Yes, they do.
I'm switching from french horn to oboe and I really like it but horn and oboe are 2 totally different worlds completely
Thank you!
It is fun to learn.
In my music book a G sounds higher and you hold the back key I just wanted to see how it sounded for my Christmas piece
thats a high g and the thumb key is the octave key
I love the oboe
Why is your oboe golden ? :o
It can be golden or silver. Mines is silver kind
He is playing on a professional instrument, and you can get them with gold plated or gold mechanisms.
Miss playing the oboe
ive been playing flute for 3 going to 4 years which Is a better transition oboe or clarinet.

Bridgette Bawden ok thank you
Wiz Kid No problem, I really hope it helps
I transitioned trumpet to oboe
Waoooo I like so much the oboe
the first note that was played, is that a C5 or C6? thanks:-)
I remember when I had to learn this
all of my notes are flat by a whole step, but my embouchure is decent and my reed is pushed all the way in. could something be wrong with the oboe i just got?
you could have a european reed as opposed to american. does the scrape on the reed extend to the wrap, or just the tip?
Posture and support. Beginning private lessons. Proper reed. Sit up in your chair and at the front with your back straight.
It’s good that you know your pitch is that far off.
What is it's higher and it's sharp...
Anyone think I can play oboe if i'm a bassoonist
I'm an oboe and I wanna play bassoon
Yes, I play bassoon and double on the oboe quite often in orchestras
Do you have any tips when playing G natural because I end up with a really high note? (unless G natural is supposed to be like that)
Oh didn't know that. That's probably the reason then. Thanks! I'll try to see how my fingering looks like. :)
izzyiebizz Also, if not the octave key is the problem, then try to touch the reed with your mouth lighter!
Álmos Kósz Thx!
What make and model of oboe is that?
My a flat and g natural sound the same.. can anyone help me?
I can only play Piano, Oboe, and clarinet but I don't play clarinet as much as use to.
Moon is the oboe hard?
Dude I can play B,C and D but no other notes if I try other notes they all come out as a B what am I doing wrong😭
Similar as saxophone , easy for me
i play guitar
Rooster 🐓 duty sounds early 2am
I’m the only oboist at my school 😭
1:11 leleux would say other wise
Just blow in the reed, you don' t need think about making weird things inside your throat.
im a clarinet player why am i here
Mine sounded like wet air.
I’m a clarinet player lol
I know how to play all of the basic notes and am a 3rd year.....why am I watching this???
I don’t even play the oboe...
(that's not middle C)
duh?!
My C came out as an a flat
Dylan Morgan Blow more air and support it more using your stomach
My C came out as Bb.
Get your finger off the A key.
If you don’t have a finger on the second key on the upper half. Then I suggest sit straighter and have more support from your stomach when blowing
The first note isn't si natural is do natural
He meant C natural, as in the note C. Not si, as in solfege.
My oboe makes me hate band :)
Demonstrating beginning oboe with gold plated keys and hardware?
