This is really upsetting because we weren't taught any of this in school (Oklahoma in the 90s and early 2000s) except a black man invented peanut butter and other useful things for peanuts. They only taught us about the same 3 or 4 black people every year (Harriet Tubman, MLK, George Washington Carver and Rosa Parks are the ones I remember most.) It's really unfair that this information is just not taught. The same thing happened with women, though I don't know to what degree. Like, I didn't know black women were responsible for getting us to the moon until Hidden Figures came out. Things like computers, wifi, mapping out the entire ocean, all of that was because of women, but men and white men especially are who we are taught about in school.
Golden Carter we don’t really learn much about inventors in general though, except for Edison and his company. And the guy that made the cotton gin. Other information you learn by reading other books or spending to much time on Wikipedia
I use your videos as part of our homeschool day for my 6 year old. We watch 1 a week we discuss it and she answers questions. We also use Latino poets as part of our curriculum. Thank you for such a great, well researched video!
I love this video already! Full of so much childhood nostalgia for me! I went to a predominantly black grade school that was ran by former civil rights activists and black panther members in Chicago, and we would have a school wide exercise similar to this every black history month. Our history teachers would have us close our eyes and ask what if black people didn't exist? What would be of this country without us? To imagine life without all the black ideas, inventions and innovations? With the exercise we realized how hard every day life would be without us and those very inventions we took for grant. This exercise was always done to remind of us how proud and honored we should be to be black in America. It let us know that we too are apart of a bigger story than what is the main narrative of US History has painted us out to be. Again Black History is American History. ✊🏾🇺🇸 Thank you ladies!

Filed a patent two years ago, had a gatekeeper from the U.S. patent office try to piece together 4 different inventions to justify denying my patent claiming all those parts put together would equal my design. The two patent lawyers I had on the case said in 30 years, they never seen anything like it. He was pleasant with my lawyers on the call but as soon as they introduced me and he heard my voice..his tone changed and he became very short with me.

Wow! I’m glad I happened to stumbled across this TH-cam page! This a great and entertaining resource for Black History Facts! I’ll definitely be sharing it with my friends who are teachers! And if I ever have children I will be allowing them to watch this page. It’s imperative that we teach the youth about African American history because most of the schools teach limited information, incorrect information (like the predominantly Caucasian school that had the textbooks teaching the kids that African Americans came over as indentured servants instead of slaves), and some schools don’t teach it at all 🤦🏽♀️

His expertise was so great that during the first operation he stood on a step behind Blalok (the white doctor who employed him) and coached them through the procedure which he developed. All whilst being technically employed as a janitor.

This is why so many black Americans say reparations are in order. Never having been given credit or payment for the actual work their ancestors did placed future generations at a great disadvantage. Yet we rarely given credit for the building of this country.
Picking cotton down south isn't building the country. No reparations isn't ever going to happen and if it did African Americans would be one of the last groups to get paid and since slavery lasted only 89yrs in America the payout wouldn't be very much. My ancestors who we're enslaved in Europe for centuries would mean even though I'm white I would get a much higher payout. Unless you're just talking about reparations for black people, that would mean you're racist though.

As I see it, one of the most egregious consequences of America's history of DISCRIMINATION, VOTER DISENFRANCHISEMENT, The JIM CROW ERA, ect. is that at the end of the day, EVERYONE is deprived in one way or another. Whenever one group is oppressed, WE ALL SUFFER from the debilitating ignorance and lack of knowledge that manifests itself. 🌎 🇺🇸
