Hello everyone. I realized, after doing our reaction and unpacking video to #GayaSaPelikulaEp06 that i still carry a lot of internalized homophobia within me. Karl's dance made me uneasy, when it should have been the most natural thing. He was finally emerging from the shadow of his dead brother and was revealing who he really is. My discomfort comes from many similar moments that i've had as a kid and when i got "caught" and it did not turn out well. Memories i chose to bury, but resurfaced while watching the episode. I was half expecting someone to barge in holding a belt or a group of hecklers appearing making cat calls and other remarks aimed to ridicule . Thankfully that didn't happen.
But see, that's how brainwashed i am. I've been "programmed" to pass, to be more tolerable and acceptable. To calibrate my behavior. To constantly compensate for my sexual orientation, i needed to make up for it because it's a mistake. I'm an aberration. And because of that i was always the one to adapt, to adjust, to be the more understanding and forgiving one so as not to rock the boat and ruffle any feathers. But i didn't realize how deep it cut, it even affected how i consume stories and content that are supposed to be ours.
To see my life as a constant point of tension. A problem that needed a solution. A hurdle i had to jump over. But thanks to GSP Ep. 6 along with my BL Bros the veil has been lifted. We all have that sissy inside who deserve better. Now it's time to dance the way Karl did with abandon and pride not fear and shame.
I'm so sorry guys for my late reaction that did not make it to our RV. As @shidoni put it i was emotionally paralyzed during our RV while i was processing everything internally, my emotions couldn't keep up. The gravity of our realization has only truly sunken in now.
As for Ate Judit, we understand her completely. We also feel her and her struggle given herv history with Vlad and her desire to make up for it and become an ally who is still navigating her way. Our reaction was really only about the execution because she had so many good point and emotionally charged moments that i personally felt was watered down by the humor. But that's just me. She's a great actress don't get us wrong. We like her, i guess it all boils down to preferences at this point. But her character's importance, development, and evolution is not lost on us we assure you. Again, thank you guys for watching and supporting the BL Bros. Your comments, whether positive or negative are all appreciated,. We continue to learn as we go along and having you invested on our videos help us grow as reactors.. Maraming salamat. Let's continue to take back our story. :-)

Honestly nung una kng pinanood ito during your premiere, na sad ako sa mga negative comment you said sa mga characters the way they act etc..but when you arrived on the point that you realized that gay love is not a conflict but a solution, i feel all of you and I cried with Syd and Carl as well....
Your RV lifted the bar on how reactors should see the story of every BL series.
And this series really made me realized that I am valid as well and as I watch GSP I am learning a lot about the community I belong.

I would say that what you carry is what Vlad termed as 'microagressions' to those who are 'baklang-halata' (effeminate or flamboyant gays). Let go of those memories. It does not serve any higher purpose.

    1. ‘Hindi ako malulunod dito!’. When Karl decides to fight, he comes armed with a bomb. Come to think of it, so did Vlad with Judit.
    2. Now we find out who the cadaver in Karl’s closet is, and he’s been following Karl around since he was born.
    3. I started bawling with ‘Uwi ka na Vlad...’
p.s. When you said ‘Queer love shouldn’t be the conflict, it’s the solution’. I started tearing up. Again. I really love watching and listening to you, guys.

When I was watching Karl dancing, I initially felt cringey, which made me realize that I still had an Internalized homophobia. The second after that, I was crying and smiling at the same time while Karl was dancing and freeing himself from everything.

I think she intentionally put the accent back on when she got to "I'm your sista." They were SHOWING us her putting her public face back on. You can see her putting her walls back up. You can see her panic and her walls come down as she was saying "I was a kid too." Then they don't come back until "I'm your sista." The actress had a lot too do in a very short amount of time. I don't think it worked for a lot of people. But it did work for me.

Agree with you. Her accents are her defense mechanisms. She added an accent to the "i'm your sistah" because it was her getting her composure back. This happened in Episode 3 as well when she was talking to Karl, but when Vlad entered, she put her accent back.

I noticed that Judit loses her pretentious accents when she's caught off-guard or vulnerable -- It's a front.
She's made a personality out of being an ally, and that includes being this woke, cosmopolitan big sister who drops phrases in Thai, French, Japanese and Italian, speaking with affectation and fluctuating accents because she doesn't really own those languages and accents, she just cribs them for show.
That's because she's trying to cover up/make up for how she treated Vlad when they were younger. Her accents are the masks she wears to face the music of everyday life.
And that's why she had an accent at the start of their dinner at the restaurant, then lost the accent when she was practically about to cry, then slowly returned to her accent as she tried to assume control of her emotions. Capisce?

I understand your confused reactions on Judit’s delivery - her feelings vs her manner of delivery. How you would have preferred for her to let the guard down. But also, I have a friend who’s exactly just like Judit who, during intense moments, say the most ridiculous things. That even if they’re dead serious about their feelings, somehow when they channel them in conversations, they sound funny. And that’s just how they are. Their personalities overpower their emotions. Sila yung matatawa ka na lang bigla habang nagkukuwento ng makungkot. I think Adrienne is actually just being true to this flamboyant character. Like when she suddenly remarked about Karl’s Tagalog during ep 2. She’s that one character who looks comical even in heavy scenes but it’s not necessarily a bad thing because at the end of the day, that’s just how she really is.

    • @neoespena6853
      @neoespena6853 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

It’ll be harder to understand Judit if we stick to our assumption that the accent is some kind of a wall or a facade that needs tearing down. Granted, the accent was not natural but it’s also part of who she is already as a person. It’s true to her personality. What if we look at the accents as just accents instead of it being a projection, a defense mechanism. Why would we insist for her to speak straight Tagalog or without the accents when in every scene of Judit, she’d switch from one accent to another, one language to another, even during vulnerable moments? I didn’t find Judit insincere even with the accents on.

As I watched the dance scene I didn't take it to be him "accepting he was gay" so much as just throwing caution to the wind. He'd wound himself up so tight trying to be this thing he thought he had to be and in this moment he didn't want try, or think or filter himself. Like he told Vlad, "I don't want to think." This was the most unfiltered Karl that we've seen yet. Even during Karl's first solo dance it's pretty subdued. He's holding a glass for most of it. And actually I'm pretty sure the lights were off/dim for that dance too....

para sa akin karls dancing is not out of character, that is actually "in" character, kung maaalala niyo sa episode 3 ung usapan nina karl and ate judit ang sabi niya silang dalawa madalas ng mother niya magkasama and di siya palakaibigan. Most probably naacquire niya ang pagiging feminine niya sa mother niya. Ganun ka genius si direk jp habac and juan miguel severo naexecute nila un 100% on point!

I think you guys missed the point of Judit. When she found out that she was lied to, the walls weren’t coming down. They were going up. Both Judit and Vlad have been guarded since they were kids. Their guard is almost always up, including and especially with each other. She even stopped them from speaking and said, “Gather” to herself so she could rebuild the wall that had just cracked. That moment, in my mind, was perfectly played.

  • @KB1.1

Ate Judit I think is perfect. She had a great script and she proved herself a match for her script. The back stories are amazing - we’ve all heard them before but JMS has put a spin on them that makes everything so... i can’t find the words to describe it. I love love love love love Gaya Sa Pelikula. Talaga naman pinagsamantalahan ni Karl and Vlad ang kanyang paging fujoshi - and tama naman ang sagot na walang magbabagong taon Kasi Bagong taon implies everyone will be ok again - she doesn’t think everything will be ok with the sham they put out for her

During the vidcall between Karl and his parents, when Karl said to not worry, he won't drown to it. When in fact, ironically, nilulunod sya ng parents nya ng expectations. Naging turning point nung pinakita yung drawing nung bahay. Baga pinanghahawakan nila yung legacy ng patay tapos ipinasa sa predecessor nya which is Karl.

Thank you guys so much for helping me process this episode, as I was really lost/confused after watching it. I had the same ~cathartic experience as you guys (AKA umiyak din ako lol), and it really made me unpack how we've been conditioned to expect same-sex relationships to be the conflict in these works that are meant to represent us, and how damaging that actually is to our cause.
I also felt extremely validated and empowered by this episode. It made me realize how much I needed a story that shows queer people as being multi-faceted -- that we also have other pressing struggles aside from the identity crises we may encounter when we first come to terms with our sexuality. Like you said, it really brought out the true meaning of the taglines "let's take back our story" and "you are valid".
This series has really raised my expectations for queer media/BL. I'll still probably look for those mababaw/cute/kilig stories but I really hope we'll see more stories like this one. The GSP team is really doing good for our community by spreading these narratives across, and of course you three are also helping a lot by unpacking/analyzing the episodes (for people like me who are too conditioned to see it for what it truly was).

    ABOUT THE ACCENT:
tuwing kausap po ni Ate Judith si Vlad dun niya ginagawa yung accent, but pag ibang tao gaya nung kinausap niya si Karl ng one on one, wala siyang accent.

  • @The12Fly
    @The12Fly 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

57:55. Interesting take on ate Judit. Actually, what I noticed was that she drops her accent when she talks serious (though i have to go back in previous episodes to prove it). And the moment that she told Vlad that "she's his only sister and no matter how much he fucked up, she was still going to be her sister" she was trying to hold back some sad emotions and expressing some semblance of strength by way of reinstating her playful accent to cover it up.

I loooooove this discussion. Frustrated artist din ako. Napapagod sa adulting na kailangan harapin araw araw, na wala na akong lakas at fire sa puso ko to even begin something creative. This breaks my heart so bad.

    1. Before you make others happy make your heart happy first.
    2. Follow your dream because you want, not forced on you.
    3. We are not perfect, you can still change
    4. Acceptance
This is not the first BL series in the Philippines, but i believe this is the best.

The demonization of the LGBT concept throughout the decades has led to the conditioning of everyone, even among our community. This is a GREAT unpacking episode. This is tangential to the idea of gay people (and everything in between) is problematic. Carl was right that it isn't heteronormative, and therefore different. While to other romance narratives, love is the solution, to us it's the main conflict because it IS a problem in the real-world. JMS mentioned that he's subverting everything about the genre which includes this concept. Hopefully, he pushes for this idea in the last two episodes and he doesn't turn to the basic "gay love is a problem" trope.

The comment section is lit! For this episode, there are so many talking points and I would just like to share some that really hit me hard:
Judit being a flawed ally is something we have encountered and yes, navigating to deal with a gay brother is a hard call. Good thing she has changed for the better. I think the accent did some mixed emotions about her sincerity in apologizing but she may be coming from her internal struggles as well. Having to be defensive or even ashamed of what she did to Vlad.
Karl was being so brave and that he finally admitted a lot that he did not like his course, he wanted to step out of the shadow of his dead brother. He wanted to take control of his life and not just from the expectations of his parents who set him up like a replacement of his older brother. Thank you Vlad for making our big boy more courageous.
About the dance of Karl being feminine and flamboyant, I was just so mesmerized by it. Then it made me realize that because of the societal expectations, you need to be all tough and manly (as a man) and God even among the LGBTQ community, there is this unsettling dislike to someone being effeminate and such, but that should not be the case (embrace everyone!). There were hints already in the previous episode so having to see that dance was perfection!
On a lighter note: Kumusta naman ang pagiging single ngayon? HAHAHA lahat siguro gusto ng ganyan and GSP brought out the freshness of finding your home in a person, kahit ako tatakbo pauwi talaga sa taong yun. The bed scene, hay ang galing ng intimacy, two characters finding comfort and security... nakakainggit.
Ang malaking tanong na nga ay kumusta na ang orca ni Vlad! Peace! Salamat BL Bros for being so insightful about this episode and even sharing a lot of your personal experiences as well. Salamat sa pagkakaroon ng ganitong safe place for everyone here to share their thoughts and process ung ganitong mga bagay.

  • @kevinluci1993

When Karl danced, many of the audience reacted why he did that. Generally speaking, many of us imprinted the thought "flamboyant" corresponds being gay or whatever. That's the problem, we, the society, give the "labels". Many of us have barriers pa rin when it comes to SOGIE, anong masama sa pagiging flamboyant? Being flamboyant doesn't corresponds to your wholeness, its a part of the whole. Also, that's the real Karl, he used to portray his older brother dahil sa magulang nya. Kaya may coming out, not only of his orientation, identity and expression, but also coming out of his true self, passion, and dreams.
And thank you that you came up to the idea that queer love is the solution. Mas ok naman siguro na nagmamahal ung kapwang kasarian kaysa magpatayan sila diba?
Hoping that next episodes will tackle sharing of love (to the world) and finding happiness.
