I’ve had tiger barbs in the past, and loved them...just set up 18 in a single species tank, and love to watch them. When I walk around the room the whole shoal follows me (they know where the food comes from) so much personality and activity in these guys. Totally recommend keeping tiger barbs!

I just got my new aquarium set up. First aquarium I have had in like 25 years. The first fish I got was a school of Tiger Barbs. They look really great in my aquarium with natural river rocks and plants and mopani branch. Their colors and stripes look really great in the environment.
I have 25 in a 50 gallon. A bit overstocked but my filter is rated for a 75-90 gallon, and so far no problems. Super active fish. I recently dropped in some boiled mussel flesh and they attacked it like piranhas

I've got all the barbs! Tigar, black ruby, and rosy barbs. I love them! I also have 1 long fin tiger barb with 7 regular ones. He doesn't get picked on at all! Its crazy I was extremely worried when I had gotten him but I've had him for months now n he's doing great!

I have a 7500 gallon lagoon. I had eight medium to small tiger barbs. I kept finding my large prize fish dead. I finally figured out the problem when I saw the tiger barbs attacking a large pleco. I got rid of the tiger barbs, no more dead fish.
SG Bearded Aquarist I found that all of my plecos had been chewed on to where their fins were almost gone. Three of them died. All were over 8" long. The rest, of the plecos, after a couple of years still have messed up fins and scars. I lost 7- 3"-4" angels. 5 blue guoramis. All my fancy goldfish. After returning the tiger barbs back to the store, I've had no more fish come up missing or chewed on. They were pretty, and they were reproducing in my lagoon. Unfortunately, there are enough plants and hidey holes I didn't actually see the attacks until many had died. I'm starting a new lagoon on the order of 56,000 gallons. Would love to have someone to discuss it with. It will be in Nicaragua on a peninsula into a fresh water lake full of native chiclids and a green spotted pleco.
SG Bearded Aquarist I failed to answer your question. I did buy several rounds of angels before I knew what was happening. They all died pretty much immediately. I'd find their bones in the lagoon. But my rosy barbs and rummy nose barbs, and swordtails were reproducing so fast, I didn't go buy other fish. I like watching them school.
I just added two Tigerbarbs thats all my shop had and they instantly were adopted by my 9 clown loaches and they all shool together half the time when they are not being barbs. Cool video i like Tigerbarbs too cuz

I have a IBC with Tilapia in it and Black Acara Cichlids The tank is a 1000 liter I did put some tetras in there and they are doing great I thought that they would get eaten but they have actually grown these tetras get bigger than barbs and they will nip I had one in my other Aquarium with my gold fish and he was way smaller than the other 4 in the bigger tank
Tiger barbs are one of my favourite fish aswell. I have them in my community tank and I've never seen them be aggressive towards my other fish. I have rosy barbs, rainbow shark, a blue gourami and molly's etc etc

Tiger barbs are my absolute favorite some of my family don’t see why I like them because they lack color in there words but there personally is amazing there always só entergetic sadly I lost a good 10 fish and I’m down to my last 6 leaving me with one tiger Barb all because I didn’t see ick on the fish until it was to late but good news is my six remaining are all in good health and the water is back to being spot on

You can find tiger barbs at very decent price at clementi 328 row of aquariums or at nanyang trading aquarium as well. For the aquarium aspect, I might not be the best person to advice

They school but they dont at the same time. They are agressive but not at the same time. Decently hardy. They thrive in most conditions. They look great too
people have criticized me in the pass because my fish dont seem to school, but i think thats because they don't feel threatened. the only time ive ever seen my barbs truly school was when i introduced angels into the tank. they were like "woah who are these guys". pretty interesting to see.
I'm going to get 3 or 4 red-bellied piranhas, and from what I can tell, tiger barbs are an excellent fish to have co-exist with them. Of course, with piranha, once in a while some of your tankmates will disappear, but ... you'll have that. I might also attempt another centerpiece fish with the piranha ... like a convict or some other type of South American cichlid.
I've seen videos online w tiger barbs and piranhas (not big one yet) living together. I think itll be a really cool display to have a small school of big piranhas living together with a huge school of tiger barbs
Hi can I check how long did it take for your tiger barbs to grow to that size? And what type of good helps promote their growth? I recently bought 25 of those at around 2-3cm. Hoping to Comms them with my thaisilk.
My biggest ones i got them as juvis and they got to that size in about 4 months. Any good quality food would do, i would say more importantly is multiple meals a day and very clean water. Low nitrates.
Planning to get a shoal of these but where do they sleep? Do they mid swim when sleeping? My clown loach fill the bottom of the tank and I don't want to create competition for that space.

For me I love tiger barbs wayyyy more than tetras and guppies. Their more entertaining and fun to watch, and since piranhas are ban in SG tiger barbs are the mini versions of it. But one thing is for sure tiger barbs are aggressive. Owned a few many years ago and at midnight they were fighting with the blood parrots

I have a 55 gallon tank and a Cascade 1200 filter ( in addition to the filter that came with the tank) We are setting it up now to upgrade the red eared slider. We have 5 tiger barbs and are in the process of adding aquatic plants and drift wood. Are there any plants that are nutrient rich for turtles that you would recommend? We would love to add more tiger barbs how long should we wait? or is it ok to add different types of tiger barbs?
I just got a bunch of Tiger Barbs for my aquarium with nothing else in there except a pleco. They seem totally fine and eat plenty. But when I turn the aquarium light on, they go for cover and stay there until I turn it off. Know why?

Tiger barbs seem like a wolf pack ..I mean similar to them they fight for leadership and follow the leader.. absolutely right info given in the video tigers require a spacious tank that's it then you can keep them peacefully even with neons and cardinals ..I'm keeping tiger barbs and tetras together from past 3 years no problems occurred..again that was nice video there .all the best

@@SGBeardedAquarist I have 2 silver dollars (they are BIG), 3 Honey Gouramis, 2 Blue Gouramis, a King Tiger Pleco, a long fin Bristlenose pleco, 5 Ancistrus Plecos, 2 Striped Raphael catfish, 3 Clown Loaches, and one common Pleco named Percy. Percy is the sole reason I upgraded to this 125 gallon. I have returned several common plecos to the LFS when they outgrew my 55 gallon tank, but for some crazy reason I got really attached to Percy! I just couldn't let him go!!! He's almost 10" now. As I'm writing this, it sounds like a lot of fish, but most are bottom dwellers (I'm a pleco/catfish junkie!!!!!) and I recently moved my Angel fish to another tank. They were the only ones preventing me from being able to add Tiger Barbs. How many do you think I can add? I'm wanting to have around 40. Of course, I'll only add them 10 at a time.
Yeah 40 sounds like the minimum ill go with in the 125. I dont see an issue with adding all at one go, just wouldnt do any big feeding in the following few days. 10 a time works too and is of course a much safer way. How are the tiger bars and flowerhorn treating each other? Planning to get barbs my flowerhorn is only about 4inches, im a bit worried they might bully the flowerhorn, thanks!
Was just fine but I know tiger barbs behaviour can be quite erratic depending on many factors so I'll say it's a risk. Theres still a chance the flowerhorn may be nipped - although unlikely if 1) the flowerhorn was in the tnk first, 2) you have a big school of tiger barbs, 3) the tank is large (theres no magic number - the larger the higher the chance of success)
I really want to get tiger barbs but I have an adult angelfish in my 65 and I don’t want him to get abused. Tank also has 3 small dats, a small black ghost, an adult eba and baby clown loaches. If I get a good number you think it’ll be ok? Side note this is a grow out for the dats, clown loaches and black ghost
Based off my personal experience: when you first add the barbs in sufficient amounts they will nip your angle fish because they are just curious like that. In a day or two that would likely stop and you have a decent chance of it working out peacefully. Based off what i read on the internet: the tiger barb will constantly nip the anglefish. Everyone has different experiences w tiger barbs. I cant say for sure it will be ok but if it were me and i really wanted tiger barbs, ill give it a go. But be ready ti remove and rehome or return the barbs if necessary.

Ashley, I just got 12 of these and 6 rainbow sharks. Man these Tiger barbs are Awesome. Really friendly and mine already come up to the front of the tank when I enter the room. Mine are small right now. Have seen them dive and break water. It was sweet! Thanks for making me a fan.

I have always had Tigers, Rubies, and Green barbs because they shoal and breed in planted aquariums. I think the bad wrap they have might be, from my experience, that they are not completely community friendly. I have seen them attack and eat slower and fin heavy fish.

They are In the same family as cyprinids which includes goldfish, carp, minnows and others

Yes they are small I wouldn't get 30 but maybe try like 10-15

Hey SG BEARDED AQUARIST ..I'm so glad you too love tiger barbs.. those are my favourite too ! Tiger barbs seem like a wolf pack ..I mean similar to them they fight for leadership and follow the leader.. absolutely right info given in the video tigers require a spacious tank that's it then you can keep them peacefully even with neons and cardinals ..I'm keeping tiger barbs and tetras together from past 3 years no problems occurred..again that was nice video there .all the best
Thank you Rahul! Happy to find others who love tiger barbs as much as I do. And yeah, they definitely aren't as bad as their reputation have them. I love them so much its my dream to get to see their natural habitat in Indonesia one day. Maybe even spot them in the wild.

I've always liked Tiger Barbs
I was contemplating adding a school of Tiger Barbs to my 125 gallon tank. You have convinced me! I am so excited!!! If only they were as inexpensive here in the US as they are there......But I can't wait to get some!!!!! BTW, LOVE the intro!!!!!!

@@SGBeardedAquarist I have 2 silver dollars (they are BIG), 3 Honey Gouramis, 2 Blue Gouramis, a King Tiger Pleco, a long fin Bristlenose pleco, 5 Ancistrus Plecos, 2 Striped Raphael catfish, 3 Clown Loaches, and one common Pleco named Percy. Percy is the sole reason I upgraded to this 125 gallon. I have returned several common plecos to the LFS when they outgrew my 55 gallon tank, but for some crazy reason I got really attached to Percy! I just couldn't let him go!!! He's almost 10" now. As I'm writing this, it sounds like a lot of fish, but most are bottom dwellers (I'm a pleco/catfish junkie!!!!!) and I recently moved my Angel fish to another tank. They were the only ones preventing me from being able to add Tiger Barbs. How many do you think I can add? I'm wanting to have around 40. Of course, I'll only add them 10 at a time.
Yeah 40 sounds like the minimum ill go with in the 125. I dont see an issue with adding all at one go, just wouldnt do any big feeding in the following few days. 10 a time works too and is of course a much safer way.

How are the tiger bars and flowerhorn treating each other? Planning to get barbs my flowerhorn is only about 4inches, im a bit worried they might bully the flowerhorn, thanks!
Was just fine but I know tiger barbs behaviour can be quite erratic depending on many factors so I'll say it's a risk. Theres still a chance the flowerhorn may be nipped - although unlikely if 1) the flowerhorn was in the tnk first, 2) you have a big school of tiger barbs, 3) the tank is large (theres no magic number - the larger the higher the chance of success)

I really want to get tiger barbs but I have an adult angelfish in my 65 and I don’t want him to get abused. Tank also has 3 small dats, a small black ghost, an adult eba and baby clown loaches. If I get a good number you think it’ll be ok? Side note this is a grow out for the dats, clown loaches and black ghost
Based off my personal experience: when you first add the barbs in sufficient amounts they will nip your angle fish because they are just curious like that. In a day or two that would likely stop and you have a decent chance of it working out peacefully.
Based off what i read on the internet: the tiger barb will constantly nip the anglefish.
Everyone has different experiences w tiger barbs. I cant say for sure it will be ok but if it were me and i really wanted tiger barbs, ill give it a go. But be ready ti remove and rehome or return the barbs if necessary.

Nice! How long have they been living together? And what size is your xb? No casulties so far?
@@SGBeardedAquarist couple of months. No casualty so far. XB is abt 14-15 inch. Just bought 10 more normal tiger barbs and the jade green ones. Shall upload a video on my channel soon.

Ashley, I just got 12 of these and 6 rainbow sharks. Man these Tiger barbs are Awesome. Really friendly and mine already come up to the front of the tank when I enter the room. Mine are small right now. Have seen them dive and break water. It was sweet! Thanks for making me a fan.

Great video, thanks :) What do you do with Tigers who are been nipped on and loosing their fins? do you put them in a different aquarium or do euthanize them?
I usually leave them as they are. Nipping isn't much of an issue with my school so the nipped barb will just heal in there no problem.

I have always had Tigers, Rubies, and Green barbs because they shoal and breed in planted aquariums. I think the bad wrap they have might be, from my experience, that they are not completely community friendly. I have seen them attack and eat slower and fin heavy fish.
