Hi Robert. Please keep your videos coming! I'm an occupational therapy assistant working in inpatient acute rehab with the SCI population and your new biggest fan. You have a great way of covering a lot of material thoroughly with a dash of humor and cleverness, and I appreciate your humility. Best wishes as you continue on your journey.

Hi Noreen - thank you for the generous and encouraging words! I’m so glad to hear someone in the therapy setting finds this valuable… that was my hope. Motivation to make more now. 🙂

Loved this video! Thank you for making it. Now for the unsolicited safety police advice :D
11:42 I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but you absolutely should NEVER allow this to happen again. There are just TOO many things that could go wrong, and if you look up pediatric lawn mower injuries, they overwhelmingly fall into two groups. 1) People who back over children because they didn't realize they were behind them, and 2) people who are carrying children in/on the mower while operating and the child falls off and into the blades/wheels.
Unfortunately it happens pretty frequently, you can find a story almost every month in the national news about it happening in the summer time. Just a few months ago in my small town we had a grandfather mowing with a grandson and some accident occurred (the specifics were never shared) that caused the little one to fall off and into the blades and nearly lost a foot. I think he is going through rehab now after spending months in the hospital.
Again, I don't bring it up to try and be a negative Nancy, just to let you know the dangers in case you weren't aware already.

Thank you for the feedback, both the kind and cautionary words. My daughter only rode on the footplate a couple of times when my son started to mow, but it's true that I should be more direct about not doing that again.

@@wheelchair-life Where are you located? If I ever pass your way I might have to bring my Ventrac tractor and let you get on that with a tough cut (bush hog) mower. It has a hand controlled forward/reverse you would probably get a kick out of!

I’m in MI, and you seem to be in FL, but if you’re ever close and want to bring that machine, I’m open to trying things. Maybe you can send me a photo of it?

Great work. Three safety comments to add; Robert, 1.) Kids should never ride on the mower, if she was to fall off she would be under the mower deck before the machine could be stopped. 2.) While mowing on windy days DO NOT instinctively grab for your hat if it blows off. Letting go of one handle at speed, will cause the mower to violently spin on a dime, potentially throwing you off the machine (I did not see a seatbelt on your model - get one & use it every time you start it up). 3.) Zero turn mowers are 'back end heavy' when transporting your mower back up onto the trailer, also follow recommendations to mow crossways on any slopes, chose a different style mower if yard slope is greater than 14 or 15% as these machines will tip over (have a ROPS- use it, don't fold it down out of the way).

Thanks for the feedback, John. Yes, others have pointed out the danger of my daughter riding that way - I’ll make a point to change things.
The other two tips are helpful from someone who sounds like they have experience. 🙂

Ballard products makes a handle that mounts to the front of a zero turn for handicap or vets. It allows ppl to pull them self up from the seat or up on to the mower.

    • @wheelchair-life
      @wheelchair-life  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the feedback - yes, I've seen those handles in other videos, and that undoubtedly helps those that have some mobility that allows them to stand up with the aid of the handle. In the case of paralyzed folk, a handle like that may or may not help, depending on its placement and whether it gets in the way of making the transfer, or if it can be used as a "grab bar" of sorts. Again, thanks for your thoughts.

Hi Freddo - thanks for your kind words! And yes, like Sandro mentioned, I do my own video work. Although I did get help from my wife on the stranded empty gas and grass-smelling scenes. 🙂
I headed over to your channel and, from the couple of videos I watched, was impressed with the honesty and abundant coverage as you process things. I’ll be definitely checking out more of your videos - keep up the good work!

@@wheelchair-life well thank you, that’s so kind. Not sure which videos you watched, but they are all quite honest. Not quite as smoothly edited as yours! You also have yourself a new subscriber, the amount of effort you went into for this video was very impressive, as I know how hard it can be to set up those shots when you’re in a wheelchair, and the editing was top notch. Great narrative and story telling, I can’t wait for the next one 😊👌

I also drone, and although the thumbnail was a cool idea, it was a bit disconcerting to have this buzzing machine only a few feet above me. 🙂

There is a guy wheelchair bound that's mows and trims and blows a couple houses next to my client that I mow for. He is in his mid 60's may early 70's. Ps my dad was paralyzed from the neck down and lived on a respirator machine for 8yrs before he died.

That's neat to hear of the wheelchair-bound gentleman near to where you work, and how he makes it happen! And I'm sorry to hear about your father - you're well acquainted with the trauma that can affect a whole family network.
