The guitar riffs from Ziggy is Mick Ronson. Mick was the guitar riff master. Mick is one of the many guitar players who took a backseat to the artist yet created the guitar hooks that are key parts of those early Bowie albums. Mick is well known for his catchy guitar riffs but hardly anyone knows his name. His well known riffs are on recordings that include: Ziggy, Cracked Actor, The Jean Genie etc. Check out his great guitar lead part on the bonus version of Madman Across the Water on the Elton John album Tumbleweed Connection. Mick Ronson was also a producer of many great songs. Mick should be recognized!
YES, Madman Across the Water, extended version, utter brilliance on display with Mick aiding Elton in a big way. They need to hear that and see Moonage Daydream from the Ziggy Stardust Concert Movie, either one would BLOW their Minds! 🎸
Mick was called up as a session player for John Cougar Mellencamp and JC credits him with turning Jack and Diane from being an acoustic song that wasn't working into the smash hit it became. He really is underrated for his contribution to many other artists.
Riding out with the bros!!! This is some vintage Bowie. If you want a funky banger with Bowie and John Lennon check out the song "FAME". Bowie sings lead vocal Lennon on rhythm guitar and backing vocals. They wrote it together and it's the shit!!! Maybe you already played it? Anyway this was great and I dig it!
“Ziggy” one of David’s numerous personas he adopted over the years. Hard to believe this came out in ‘72 when I was just 11 y/o, thankfully I had an older sister who introduced me to a lot of great music at that time.
My favorite Bowie era, rocking out with Mick Ronson and the Spiders From Mars. That entire era deserves full reactions, he will mess with your mind and leave you freaking thrilled! From the same album do Moonage Daydream, an all time glam-rock classic with Bowie giving Mick a chance to really shine. This song is also incredible live, my jaw dropped when I saw the Ziggy Stardust Concert movie, some of the best rock you will ever hear along with Bowie in eclectic theatrical mode. Dope as Hell is right dudes, please do more Ziggy! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎷🎶
Bowie was a Genre on his own. So many styles & characters. He always sang as his character until he recorded Wild is the Wind. This was a tribute to Nina Simone who recorded the song in 1966. This was the first time Bowie sang as himself. ♥️ Love him & miss him! 💔
When this album came out my roommate worked at a high-end stereo store. We'd go in after hours and listen to this, among others, in the high-end room through Crown amps and Klipsch corner horn speakers. The experience was transcendental
This song is about how the character Ziggy Stardust became the whole show and lyrics and musical talent had become secondary. Bowie felt he wasn't getting an out front support from band members while he was being torn apart from the press. When the show ended one night he closed with this song and announced the end of it all. People were shocked, including the Spiders From Mars. Bowie went in.
This album and tour really put Bowie on the map. Ziggy is a classic album, and really Ziggy was the first character persona Bowie adopted. I would add that you should not miss the importance of Mick Ronson on guitar. He also did arrangements for some of the instrumentation, strings and horns. Strong, strong album. If you think it sounds futuristic today, imagine what it sounded like in 1972. His appearance, stage show, and music was completely different and utterly unexpected.
Bowie's phrasing is what sets him apart, right? Like Billie, who was mimicking Louis's horn runs with her timing and phrasing. IMAO anyway...haha. Love the channel, ya'll just keep offering up the nugs of wisdom...❤❤❤
Bowie was one of those artists who only improved with age. He was doing some of his most jaw-dropping work just before his untimely passing. I'd suggest looking at some of his later work, including 'The Stars are Out Tonight' and "Blackstar', which is the culmination of the Major Tom saga that began with 'Space Oddity'.
I've loved David Bowie since childhood when my aunt gave me the album David Live when I was 10 years old. The record was recorded at the Tower Theater (Upper Darby, PA right outside West Philadelphia), and my aunt saw all 6 nights Bowie was in town during the Diamond Dogs tour. I feel privileged to have seen him live 4 times, and he didn't disappoint. Even the night I got arrested for underage drinking in the Spectrum parking lot. Good times back then 😌
You gents are just the best at listening with both ears! Great reactions! I've said it for decades, and never heard anyone say it before, but hard to say I'm wrong.....I would have done anything possible to get Bowie and Prince together for a collab. Nothing they couldn't do individually, so collectively impossible to contemplate beyond a dream. Too late even for A.I. which they could outwit even dead.
Listen to Sweet thing/candidate/sweet thing, lady grinning soul, wild is the wind, win, ….he’s as good or better than most that you mentioned….opinion. But he also morphed from what hevwas here to what he became
Level of musicianship is second to the sheer genius of his songwriting and progression as an artist. In his body of work, every single song wasn't the best but it was all part of the growth of a musician that we will never see again. Keep killin it gentlemen, thanks as always.
I was 12 when this came out.🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩and had a box seat for a decade. I played Five Years from this LP a lot, at the start of the CV-19 pandemic, as it fitted the panicky zeitgeist at the time. Top tier talent. Art and versatility and a *GREAT* voice.
Glad you loved the vocals! According to Tony Visconti his producer 100% of Bowies vocals were first takes during the 1970's! He'd put down the music first and then and come and sing his vocal; always first take. I checked again when he died and even by then, with various illnesses, he still had managed 95% of his vocals as first takes. That is just one ridiculously talented singer ;)
listen to this whole album...He is so talented..and I get what you are saying about his singing..He is different and that what makes him so alluring..Peace to you both keep those awesome reactions coming
Yeah, good reaction guys! In junior high at fourteen years old I was a huge Bowie fan, along with Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Rush, The Doors, Foghat, and quite a few others as well, And I still am! I turned 13 in October of 1977, great music is universal.
I stumbled upon a TH-cam video of Bowie and his band( year ❓ Performing where❓ with 4 backup singers) doing a COVER of " I Feel Free" by CREAM. WOW❗ He even plays Saxophone 🎷 at the end. He loved the song so much they would often perform the song as an ENCORE. His deep voice was like butter on this performance. If you are a Bowie fan...look this up. 🎵😊🎵😊
Another great reaction gentleman. Can’t go wrong with anything from Bowie. Keep up the great work guys thank you for what you do for the AirPlay family.
Guys, seriously. The full title of the album is "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars". That's for a reason. It's a concept album and is meant to be listened to from start to finish in order to get the complete story. Just sayin'.
I was fortunate to be able to see Bowie play a festival in Germany back in 1987 when I was stationed over there in the Air Force. He put on an incredible show.
David Bowie to me is another shining example of the music scene in this era that we were so fortunate to enjoy. Nobody sounded anything like him, completely unique, but loaded with talent and incredible songwriting skill. What a great time to be growing up and seeking new music at the record store and on the radio as one of the few forms of entertainment available. Magic
Thank you! Check out Station to Station, and TVC15 off the Station to Station album, some more great work by Bowie. He is so good, there won't be another like him. But we get to keep enjoying his creativity....
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is an excellent album from start to finish. It deserves a reaction in its entirety. It ranks in the top twenty five for the entire 20th century.
The first music I ever received was the single for space oddity by Bowie. Mono on the Phillips label. So I took the whole journey as he sang it. We were poor then, so I always played the B side in those vinyl days, and there lurking on that first single was "the wild eyed boy from free cloud". I had no idea that you could do a song like that, and I was all in. Not just with Bowie either, it was a musical exploration. In an interview Bowie was asked what he attributed his success to. "I just got lucky with the songs" he replied. Humble. He was giving to his fans, whom he never took for granted. There is evidence on you tube of the end of a show where he invites those who remain to stay, and for a post encore he would perform and entire album for them. The fact that he would also explore music and innovate kept him relevant for his whole life. A unique song writer, a chameleon creating characters like Ziggy Stardust, the Thin Duke, Aladdin Sane et al, and a gifted musical voice. There was an occasional cover, "Sorrow" which had "Amsterdam" on the B side. He sings Sorrow with emotion, but Amsterdam is a performance. Listen to both to see what I mean. Pop, Jazz, Funk, and Rock (and Roll), were all accessed by Bowie, and though he's gone now, I still enjoy it all. A fine reaction guys. Hoping you and yours are, and remain well.
Just found an interview from 1977. "David Bowie Explains Ziggy Stardust" - CBC News: The National. V. interesting, and just adds to my respect of the man and artist.
Love watching you guys rock out to this .Please keep bringing on the Bowie reactions. ❤❤once you hear enough of his songs .You will change your opinion on his voice.
Bowie put songs and bands together like no other. He put out something like 28 studio albums, all different from each other. He created styles and culture and characters- some of which nearly killed him. But he always bounced back surprising everyone even his most ardent fans. Genius, legend, pioneer....and that is not overstating his achievements and place in history.
For me personally I have a vivid memory from about 50 years ago listening to this album on an 8-track tape cassette in my friends 1966 Impala!! The car was filled with smoke like Cheech and Chong because we were smoking weed and listening to David Bowie!! I don't think I will ever forget it!!❤
I regard this and the other 4 albums he released up to 1975 as Bowie's Classic period ( I know others will disagree ) Mick Ronson deserves a huge amount of credit for his guitar and production input. As to Bowie's vocal ability - I know what you're saying but at the same time there are things that he can do that Plant and Ozzy could only dream about - as examples i would refer you to 'Wild is the Wind' and 'Lady Grinning Soul'. That said - I do appreciate the fact that you tell it as you hear/see it and don't set out to appease your audience for the sake of it.
I saw Bowie's Ziggy Stardust tour in Evansville, Indiana in 1973 at Roberts Stadium. Back then, the staduim hosted some of the greatest talent of the day. The 70's was just an incredible time for music, so much talent, so much creativity that has stood the test of time.
The man knows how to make a record. And that’s not faint praise. Some artists can write and sing and play but have no particular talent for what to do in the studio to create the best recorded version of what they just wrote. (Bowie produced Lou Reed’s “Transformer” and you can clearly hear the Bowie touch.)
One of the most influential rock tunes in history. Right up there with Elvis' "HoundDog" , the Stones' "Satisfaction" and the Doobie Bros' 'What a Fool Believes".
Great Song Great Guitar Intro Great Album With David Bowie’s Amazing Vocals & Eclectic Lyrics along with Mick Ronson on Piano String Arraignments Melotron and Ronson’s Other Worldly Guitar Solos make Ziggy Stardust Bowie’s Signature Album. Now is the Perfect Time 2 React 2 the Album’s Best Track “Moonage Daydream “. The Other Worldly Guitar Outro is Out of This World Bowie & Ronson Perfect Together
I had this album. See in my day you had your vinyls. The adults controlled tbe 3 station TV so youwere just up in your room learning these songs so you can sing them perfectly decades later!
The first Bowie song I recall hearing was "Fame," circa 1974 (I was 14). I loved it but didn't do a deep dive into his music until my daughter turned me on to the album "Hunky Dory." I would describe Bowie as a chameleon who took on many personas, all of them special in their own way. Fast forward to 2007. I took my daughter Melissa to see him in Atlanta at Chastain Park; he played for 3 straight hours. The thing that I call "an unforgettable concert experience" came when he sang Suffragette City when 10,000 people in unison called out "Wham, bam, thank you, ma'am." He also performed my favorite song, "Ashes to Ashes," which was what I especially wanted to hear. "I'm Afraid of Americans" is another banger. Another is the Christmas song he sang with Bing Crosby, a duet of the songs "Peace On Earth" and "The Little Drummer Boy." God bless you guys. Keep up the good work.
Can’t wait for you to react to Moonage Daydream. That Other Worldly Guitar Solo Courtesy of Mr Mick Ronson And Bowie’s Vocals are Absolutely Incredible
He wasn't a great singer like one would think of a Whitney Houston or a Robert Plant, but he was a great singer in the way he expressed himself through his music, and that's special and amazing in itself.
Bowie was one of a kind. We'll never see his likeness again.
I just saw his likeness the other day.
Mick too , he helped
Or even his "like" 🤦
Rhyming "...so where were the Spiders?" with "...just the beer light to guide us" deserves its own damn little Grammy!
But then, "He was the Nazz. With God Given Ass." Would have been robbed!
@@sideline5519 Good point. LOL, every syllable in this song is 🔥!
"Five Years", "Starman", "Soul Love" & "Moonage Daydream" all worth hearing from this album.
You hit it, right there!
And surely, the heart-rending Rock n Roll Suicide.
Why stop there? The whole album is fire!
Right
The whole album is whole album is worth checking out. It’s a masterpiece. Can’t skip any songs.
one of his best. RIP Mick Ronson (guitar)
Moonage Daydream from the Ziggy Stardust Concert Movie. A Sample of his greatness. 🎸
My 18 year old just bought this album. Needless to say I was proud of her.
👍 🎸 🎵
Well done!!
Ha great!! 🙂
This album came with the instruction: " TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME, " so I hope everyone obliged!
This is one of those Concept Albums that is meant to be listened to from start to finish in chronological order.

He really is underrated for his contribution to many other artists.
Mick is such a underrated guitars 1:29
One of the most important rock albums of the seventies.
More Bowie!!!!
David Bowie is great at utilising his instrument - his voice. He adapts to the diverse moods he creates musically. A LEGEND!
Album is just insane .. every track is a classic.
#RIPDavid
The greatest artist of all time ..fearless pioneer musically and culturally .
Thanks for stopping by Mr.Jones.
Rip
These songs from my youth hit different when I join y'all and listen with intent. Nice choice.
Yeah, man..me too.
Riding out with the bros!!! This is some vintage Bowie. If you want a funky banger with Bowie and John Lennon check out the song "FAME". The Man Who Fell to Earth
RIP Bowie
Great album featuring one of the most underrated guitarists of all time, Mick Ronson❤
The greatest ROCK STAR who ever graced this planet.
He has a unique voice that you just love!!!💖. Love you and miss you David! RIP 🙏🙏🙏
His best album by far! You have to do the whole album in order! It ells a story!
Moonage Daydream is a MUST! Bowie is one of a kind! Often replicated, never duplicated.. 👊🏼👊🏼
“Ziggy” one of David’s numerous personas he adopted over the years. Hard to believe this came out in ‘72 when I was just 11 y/o, thankfully I had an older sister who introduced me to a lot of great music at that time.
He “expresses” instead of just sings. He was galactic.

This is one you really need to listen to the entire album.
The way they lead into each other is a large part of what is great about it.
the whole album is his masterpiece.
Fyi some of my all time fav bowie songs...Space oddity, rebel rebel, jean genie!!!
This song makes me cry. It’s so beautiful.
Bowie was a Genre on his own. So many styles & characters. He always sang as his character until he recorded Wild is the Wind. This was a tribute to Nina Simone who recorded the song in 1966. This was the first time Bowie sang as himself. ♥️ Love him & miss him! 💔

Vowie is such an eclectic artist! You need to Station to Station next. I know it will be right up your alley!
I would suggest Wild Is the Wind from the Station to Station album to get an idea of Bowie's range.
Definitely my favorite Bowie song. Thanks for the reaction.
This is one of my top Bowie tracks of all time.
I love Bowie and was lucky enough to see him live in Toronto in the 80s.
_Something in the Air._
Ziggy was the best iteration of Bowie ☺️
This album and tour really put Bowie on the map. Ziggy is a classic album, and really Ziggy was the first character persona Bowie adopted. Nothing they couldn't do individually, so collectively impossible to contemplate beyond a dream. Too late even for A.I. which they could outwit even dead.
The voice is subjective, but he performed every word, and colored it with music.
Futuristic Is the perfect way to describe Bowie
Here hes in his ziggy persona
He didn't just sing about Ziggy he became Ziggy
Listen to Sweet thing/candidate/sweet thing, lady grinning soul, wild is the wind, win, ….he’s as good or better than most that you mentioned….opinion. But he also morphed from what hevwas here to what he became

Y'all on a roll today, keep it up guys . Make an old man smile.
Hell yeah they are 😁 and I'm loving it
This album must be listened to from start to finish in one sitting. At maximum volume.
David Bowie was a musical genius and left the world way too soon
Brilliant man
There’s a lot of singers in Rock that can’t sing, but fit the band that they’re in. That’s part of what makes Rock so great.

In junior high at fourteen years old I was a huge Bowie fan, along with Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Rush, The Doors, Foghat, and quite a few others as well, And I still am! I turned 13 in October of 1977, great music is universal.
You forgot Van Halen and The Who and Sabbath, but I hear you. But bowie is not in the same league as Zeppelin and Black Sabbath and Doors, etc.😊
Bowie's best album IMHO.
I stumbled upon a TH-cam video of Bowie and his band( year ❓ Performing where❓ with 4 backup singers) doing a COVER of " I Feel Free" by CREAM. WOW❗ He even plays Saxophone 🎷 at the end. Entire album is worth doing.
Guys, seriously. The full title of the album is "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars". That's for a reason. It's a concept album and is meant to be listened to from start to finish in order to get the complete story. Just sayin'.
If you look up the definition of the word cool it says David Bowie.
I listen to these songs different when I listen with you guys.
Ziggy Stardust is more than a song or an album. It's a compilation of arts.
I was fortunate to be able to see Bowie play a festival in Germany back in 1987 when I was stationed over there in the Air Force. He put on an incredible show.
This was the concert in the 70’s I was lucky to see!!! PHENOMENAL!!👍🍀💖

Bowie was one of if not the best musical arranger!
My favorite Bowie album. for me, epic from cover to cover the likes of fleetwood mac rumors.
Mick Ronson was a fantastic guitarist! How about some Panic In Detroit or Diamond Dogs. Excellent reaction fellas 👌 👏
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is an excellent album from start to finish. It deserves a reaction in its entirety. It ranks in the top twenty five for the entire 20th century.

Such an amazing artist all around Rip Mr. Bowie.
Ashes to Ashes is a cool track by him, all my best from Liverpool
Love watching you guys rock out to this .Please keep bringing on the Bowie reactions. ❤❤once you hear enough of his songs .You will change your opinion on his voice.
Awesome.

I have probably listened to this album a thousand times over the last four decades and it never gets old. Never.
That whole album is worth a listen, it’s a concept album and it’s a classic. Dive in, you won’t regret it.

Exactly!!! Perfectly said!!
Nine to ten deep and still scratching the surface. David is an artist and song stylist.
A Concept album. There's so much more to hear!
