    Today I invite to discover this new 43 mm hand-wound Longines Heritage Military 1938 wristwatch numbered & limited to 1938 pieces.
    It is a beautiful, contemporary replica of a wristwatch sold to the Czech Army by Longines in 1938. The Heritage Military 1938 is powered by the 3 Hz (21.600 A/h), 36,6 mm ETA 6498/2 calibre with a power reserve of 53 hours - the former legendary Unitas pocket watch calibre.
    The domed sapphire crystal with multi-layered anti-reflective coating protects the matt black dial with its "baton"-style hands and its cream-colored Arabic numerals. The readability couldn't be better!
    The 43 mm steel case is waterproof up to 30 meters.
    The Longines Heritage Military 1938 is available with a patinated charcoal grey leather strap and a cognac-coloured NATO-style leather strap. A tool included in the case makes it easy to interchange them.

    Great review as always, love your enthusiasm and sense of humor! This looks like an amazing watch, and love that it is exactly the same size as the original. And I could not agree more about the movement fitting the case, and manually wound as well. I see nothing to dislike about this watch. No mention of water resistance rating. Presumably that's because it's very poor. You can forgive the original as these things were harder to achieve then. Leaving it like that now is like bringing out a late 1950's

    its as if Longines are trying to have one small flaw in every watch. this one the hour hand is too long. The heritage 1945 the second dial is too small.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hour hand is as wrong as it was in the original watch from 1938. So now we can discuss should Longines have corrected this flaw or leave it as it is a re-edition... With the Heritage Classic you might have noticed that at least on the watch I have shown the hour hand is a little too short. But on the pictures from Longines the hand length is top since it touches the minuterie of the dial. I don't have a problem with the size of the subdial though ...

    • @panayiotiskyriacou5118
      @panayiotiskyriacou5118 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@WatchAdvisor sorry i meant on the heritage 1945 (edited top post now). dont get me wrong i like longines. Its just that there is a flaw n every model. So this has the long hour hand (in my opinion they should fix it rather than stay true to the original). On the heritage 1945 the seconds dial/circle its too small and looks off. In the new heritage sector the line touches the G in Longines. again true to the original but a distraction from n otherwise excellent dial..

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Panayiotis Kyriacou I fully agree with you concerning the 1945. The watch looked ridiculous with that small subdial far to much in the center. But with the new ones I don’t really have a problem. Did you follow my explanations in the video for the positioning of the subdial in the Heritage Classic. LONGINES listens to critics and is willing to do better as we see. The line going through the logo does not bother me, neither the probably a bit too long hour hand of the 1938. What really will bother me if the hour hand stays as short as it is shown in the video of the Heritage Classic. Here pictures distributed by LONGINES differ from the watch I saw. I will have an answer to this ASAP...

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Panayiotis Kyriacou I double and triple checked with LONGINES ... The Heritage Classic minute hand will touch with its top the minuterie. So the hand has its perfect length... I was told today by Xavier, LONGINES product manager, that all re-editions do 1:1 reflect the original watches.

    Thank you for this video. I am now a proud owner of #1775 and it is essentially my first "timepiece." This piece can be worn in any situation on either strap and be appropriate. The larger case size from the other heritage models is appealing, and as you say having the full sized movement is a plus that I can enjoy in my thoughts as I look down. The execution and "heritage" elicited by this piece is a tribute to Longines.

    I forgot to add in my original comment: I really like that case back, and the fact that it is - or does not appear to be - screwed in. As, of course, it would have been on the original. Very unusual to see a modern made watch with the snap in case back, I like it!!

    It's very interesting that the original 1930s Czech Army watch watch was so big! The watches that Longines, Omega (and some other Swiss makers) made for the British Army and Airforce in the early 1940s were relatively small - I think 35mm. The Jaeger-LeCoultre RAF pilot's watch from the same time was even smaller - I think 33mm. (Later on in the 1950s and 1960s the RAF watches made by Omega were still only 36 or 37mm - which was however considered _very big_ for the time!)

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's in fact a particularity of that watch. It is more the style of a deck watch and observation watch used by naval officers. Longines used a pocket watch movement, I assume it was extra precise and very reliable. Today for me those 43 mm fit perfectly and the watch looks gorgeous on the wrist.

      @@WatchAdvisor Yes, I have seen one of these Beobachtungsuhren (that's what they were called, isn't it?) made by A.Lange und Söhne for the Kriegsmarine. It even came in a little wooden Schutzkasten to be mounted on deck. The dealer wanted a little bit too much for it, I felt. But it was interesting all the same. He also had some Glashüte Chronographs that were issued to Luftwaffe Piloten im zweiten Weltkrieg. (But apparently the costs of servicing those are quite frightening - 1000s maybe!)
