This chapter mentions the house of Caleb which means dog as you mentioned. Look at the previous chapter: [1 Samuel 24:14 KJV] After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.
That scripture in chapter 24 was David talking to Saul about Saul in pursuit of him. The name Caleb relating to the name dog is true but to be named Caleb meant loyal like a dog is loyal. I believe Pastor was mistaken on this one. Nabal was in Carmel. Carmel is in the area of Hebron. Hebron was given to Caleb. Caleb was the only one besides Joshua out of all the men who went to spy out the land of Canaan who wasn’t afraid to fight them when they returned. It was the others who were afraid and stirred up fear in the people when God said they would stay in the wilderness 40 years. Joshua and Caleb the only ones from that time period who got to go to the Promise Land. Caleb was a courageous, loyal man of God. Nabal was an evil person but it had nothing to do with Caleb the man of God.
I have a reference Bible and where it says Nabal was of the house of Caleb, it refers to Caleb who was the only other one who stood with Joshua when they came back from scouting out the land of Canaan. Carmel where Nabal was is in the area of Hebron. Hebron is the land Caleb was given. The name Caleb is related to the word for dog but it means loyal like a dog is loyal. Caleb was a courageous, loyal man of God. Nabal may have been an evil person but it had nothing to do with Caleb.

What a powerful message! Thank you, Pastor David…
I’ve learned to pray for people when I feel upset with them.
That's so important. You won't regret it.
Thanks for explaining the Jesus verse. I thought it simply meant "don't take revenge."
