that was a fair review of St.kilda. The big question mark for me will be Max King remaining injury free which would have an immediate scoring improvement, that and their ability to kick it better into the forward line.
@ so we’re most teams? Geelong the most successful team of the era, Swans finished on top, Lions two GF. Pies a flag. Carlton finals 2 years in a row I could go on …. Eight teams in the finals GWS finals year in year out, even the other hopeless mob the bulldogs made the finals won a flag from sixth 2 from 99 attempts. (Saints 1/227). Not a dumb comment, St Kilda facts.
The first half of St Kilda's season was a trainwreck, but the end of the season they salvaged some pride to finish with 11 wins and finish 12th. Would like to see The Saints go up in 2025 and do well.
We couldn't deliver the ball inside 50 and we just don't have a dominant/creative mid. Apart from that our defence and ball movement from defence was great. I like to think that our young talent worked their way out of the dumps towards the end and it'll do them good. There's so much to look forward to next year, a huge bunch of players that could be anything really. I think 2025 could be more exploration and development but who knows? They might click.
9 ganes under 10 points if we can push Rowan Marshall into the fwd line get Harry Boyd in the ruck or visa versa get King to CHF to be a link up with his abiltity to set up with his beautiful kick. I think the young midfield core will be impressive and Hugo Garcia will take a massive step up. Theres some very big young players that should be able to take the next step in 2025. Still dont think its a finals team but with how close the comp is if we can take those small margin losses and flip them into wins they absolutely can be a problem. Great review guys.
The Saints getting Brendan Bolton is a huge get that no one seems to be talking about. Yeah he was a horrible senior coach but he's probably the best assistant coach in the league. Very successful stint at Hawthorn as Clarko right hand man and more recently at Collingwood. I may be wrong but I believe Craig McCrae or one of the other coaches at Collingwood said that he was the architect of there game style. With him coming on as an assistant at St Kilda I reckon he can help fix there attacking problems and might just be the thing that the saints are missing. Im 50/50 on whether they make the 8 but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they finish as high as 5th.
Top 4 without question! Ross Lyon teams in his 3rd year have never missed top 4, and now Banger Harvey is back coaching the mids. You'll all believe by August 2025. Mark my words.
Year in year out they get the same draft opportunities as other clubs, select the wrong coaches. Year in year out they fail at everything they do. Premierships 1/127.
@ “Rubbish” that’s all you’ve got. 1 flag (by 1 point) in 127 attempts, year in year out just making up the numbers as the result of poor management is my comment. Your counter argument is simply “rubbish!” MCG 2 games Marvel 13 games a bus ride to Geelong, 16 games in Victoria for another wasted year. Year after year great players are drafted by other clubs but never St Kilda. In this years GF Brisbane managed to get Kai Lohmann (4 goals) draft pick 20 of 2021, Logan Morris (2 goals) draft pick 31 of 2023 both good enough to play in a premiership team. I could name a dozen champions playing at other clubs that could be at St Kilda. Destined for another year of mediocrity..
@ Example: 2013 Draft. Pick 4 Marcus Bontompelli, pick 13. Patrick Cripps. Who did St Kilda draft? Pick 3. Jack Billing’s - cleared to Melbourne 2023. Repeated year in year out.
The Saints (for a while now) have been addicted to mediocrity. They let good players go and draft players who are out of form or injured. They've tried to build their team around one star player -- instead of building a full team and it's hurt them. Then, they went and hired Ross Lyon. Lyon's glory days are long gone. His last few seasons at Freemantle were a disaster. His last few seasons at the Saints were terrible, too. So why did Saint's front office think he could bring them back into contention for a flag? Lyon is coaching an old-style football which is not being played these days. The Saints need to dump Lyon... and fast.
Ross is doing what he did in his original season at Saints as Head Coach. Next 3 yrs will tell and win a fuck"n flag. I was 7 in 1966. Will I see anothert? Probably not.
@@markdavey8809 Given the fact that the Saints held on to Richardson much longer than they should have, then they replaced him with Brett Rattan (who had a 50% win record at his last head coaching job AND a 50% record in his partial caretaker season before going on to a 50% record as Saints head coach) and then they hired back Lyon who walked out on them with no notice (he didn't even bother to inform his agent), I don't think you will see the team get another flag. They are always woefully inadequate during the trade and draft periods. While I should wait and see them play, I think they will probably end up 11-13th on the ladder. I've been a Saints fan since the 90s, but I'm ready to walk away -- but to which team?
Great series guys :D Content is the off season is always appreciated.
Ross Lyons press conferences are the best

Not in the same league as Brisbane.

Darren brilliant summary of the Saints 2024 season. From a Saints supporter.

Not recruiting riley bonner would have meant 2 -3 more victories
Mate you have no idea lyon will be holding a cup within 3 years
Sorry that's for sampatterson
The Brisbane loss and the bulldogs
Yeah that game at Marvel was like a different team, they had a strong run home barring that
