  • In industrial facilities, careful design of overpressure protection systems is critical to preventing personnel injuries as well as damage to equipment and the environment. Using a High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) instead of a traditional pressure relieving device is becoming more common.
    However, designing a HIPPS for this purpose requires several process design considerations beyond the instrumentation design. There are many other aspects that need to be considered before starting the safety integrity level (SIL) verification.
    Subject Matter Expert Jonathan Webber and Lexter Gimenez explore some of the challenges a process engineer may encounter when using an instrumented system for overpressure protection.
